Hello Lovely Ladies,
I have been meaning to do this review since ages but it invariably used to take a backseat because I kind of assumed that not many people know the brand. Honestly, if you had asked me 2 years back, I would have been “Kevin, who??” So I was pleasantly surprised when one of the IMBB readers, Sonia, mentioned that she would like Kevyn Aucoin products reviewed – when IMBB asked for which high-end makeup brand would the readers like covered on IMBB. So, as promised to Sonia, here I am with the Celestial Powder review.
PRODUCT (from the website):
This sheer, opalescent, champagne-colored powder works like a soft focus lens, blurring imperfections and accentuating your best features with an illuminating gleam. Applied over foundation, or bare skin, Candlelight highlights cheekbones and illuminates any areas that light would naturally strike. It can also be dusted all over the face for a pretty, ethereal glow that’s lightweight, subtle & sophisticated.
WHAT IT IS
A sublime and ethereal highlighter that adds a subtle light to the skin
WHY WE LOVE IT
• Lustrous formula is never harsh; adds a soft, luminous radiance
• Cashmere like texture blends into the skin effortlessly
• Pair it with The Sculpting Powder
A gorgeous, elegant shimmer powder for an angelic glow.
Finish your look with a light dusting of The Celestial Powder for a soft, angelic shimmer. Apply to the forehead, cheeks, temples, chin or decollete, or use in lieu of a blush for a surreal, ethereal look. Pearl powder provides ultra-light shimmer without looking glittery, and the soft, golden-apricot hue adds a whisper of color. Packaged in a slim, mirrored compact, ideal for all complexion tones.
Price –$44 / GBP35 for 3.1gm of product
It’s not available at Sephora. Like Tom Ford Beauty, you have to pick this up from Nordstrom.
The product comes in a small mirrored compact without any applicator. It’s so small that you may mistake it for an eyeshadow. Originally, the Celestial Powder used to come in a much bigger compact with a brush and about 5gms of product. But they decided to change the packaging, remove the brush, reduce the amount of product – at a reduced price? Think again! At the same price. Lovely!
My experience with Kevyn Aucoin The Celestial Powder Candlelight:
I go through phases in makeup; there was a foundation phase – searching for the perfect match of texture and shade- then there was a coral lippy phase, a Fuchsia lipstick phase, an Orange lipstick phase, a highlighter phase…and so on. Earlier on, I reviewed for you a cream and a liquid highlighter- the MAC Cream Color Base in Shell– and The Giorgio Armani Sheer Fluid #4. Today, I share with you a powder highlighter from Kevyn Aucoin Beauty.
For those who are new to the brand, Kevyn Aucoin Beauty was established by Kevyn Aucoin, a US based makeup artist (just like Bobbi Brown and Laura Mercier). The range includes some much raved-about products such as this highlighting powder, the liquid highlighter, the sculpting powder and some amazing brushes. Do Google Kevyn Aucoin to know more about him.
The product in question is a finely milled frosty powder with no obvious shimmer or glitter – just a natural looking radiant sheen. The product is smooth, almost like a cream product. You can easily highlight the top of your cheeks, the browbone, the bridge of the nose, the cupid’s brow – all the points where light hits your face. The swatch is pretty clear in showcasing that there are no obvious shimmer or glitter particles. Which also means that it does not accentuate the pores. It blends effortlessly – even if I get a little heavy handed with it.
Another great thing about the product is that it does not give an obvious kind of highlight. Instead, the sheen is more understated and elegant. You can make out that the product is on- makeup addicts like us definitely can. However, for others, it would seem like a beautiful radiance to your skin. This aspect makes it perfect for daytime wear and for office wear. Don’t get me wrong, it works equally well in the night. However, very few highlighters are ok to be applied in the day because the shimmer/sparkle they give is so obvious. This one is perfect.
The highlighter lasts about 8 hours on my oily/combination skin – so pretty much a full day.
The beauty of the product also lies in the fact that the colour is so pretty that it would suit all skin tones and ethnicity. It would work across the spectrum.
Kevyn Aucoin The Celestial Powder Candlelight:
1. Finely milled, soft, silky smooth powder
2. Frosted sheen – rather than shimmer or glitter content
3. Does not highlgiht pores
4. Blends easily
5. Fairly long-lasting – even with my oily skin
6. The color works well even for office wear or day wear
7. The colour can be made to look so subtle as radiant skin OR to give a more pronounced highlight.
8. Did not break me out
9. Will suit all skin tones and all ethnicities
10. A little product goes a long way.
Kevyn Aucoin The Celestial Powder Candlelight:
1. I cant think of a sigle thing – except the product is as small as an eyeshadow!!!
IMBB Rating – 5/5
This is by far the best highlighter I have come across and being powder, it’s very easy to use. I would definitely recommend it. Yes, it’s pricey but a little product does go a long way with this one. Do share what are your favorite highlighters.
Just to share with you, Kevyn Aucoin has just launched a new shade in this product – Starlight – a warmer peachier champagne toned highlighter. I for sure would love to get my hands on it!
