10 Key Ingredients for Korean Glass Skin Effect

We all have at least one Korean or Japanese skincare product; ever wonder what do the ingredients mean? It can get pretty confusing but I’ve got the cheat sheet right here for you and I’m ready to share!

Korean skin

1. Vitamin A (Retinol)
It helps to combat free radicals, increases collagen production and repairs skin damage to prevent premature aging, wrinkles, and sun damage, leaving you with smooth supple skin.

2. Aloe Vera
Aloe Vera is well known for its superior soothing and hydrating properties. It’s superb for calming down sun burns and skin irritations.

3. Fermented Ingredients
Products such as yeast, rice and wine have all shown promising effects to help with anti-aging and elasticity of the skin. A very popular example would be Pitera. Pitera provides necessary nutrition to the skin to regenerate and provides amino acids for repair of damaged protein structures in the skin. A famous brand with Pitera in the products would be SK-II.

4. Rice
This ingredient has been used for years in Asian skincare. As a toner or as a scrub, rice has shown to be a highly effective brightening ingredient that can even out the skin tone. It can also reduce the size of pores and acts as an excellent acne healer.

5. Hyaluronic Acid
It helps to seal in moisture, giving you a healthy, plump and supple look. It’s amazing for moisturizing as it can retain as much as 100x its weight in water. Hyaluronic acid is also known as a ‘smart nutrient’ as it can adjust its moisture absorption levels based on the humidity – relative to the season and the climate.

6. Syn-ake
Also known as synthetic snake venom, it mimics a protein found in the venom of the Temple Viper with its strong muscle relaxing effect. It’s used to firm up the skin and improve skin elasticity. It’s considered a Botox alternative. Like Botox, it reduces muscular contractions in the face and reduces cell movement, thereby keeping your skin smooth and supple.

7. Vitamin B (Niacin)
It’s also known as niacinamide (B3). It’s known for its potent brightening properties. Vitamin B is used to lighten redness from acne scars and it also evens out the skin tone.

8. Arbutin
Arbutin is a derivative of hydroquinone and is found in wheat and pears. It is safe to be used and can inhibit melanin production. This makes arbutin a very popular ingredient for skin brightening.

9. Green Tea
Drinking green tea might be great for your body, but it also provides anti-aging, anti-inflammatory and anti-carcinogenic properties when applied over skin. You can even use green tea as cleansing water!

10. Milk
Milk has been known for its moisturizing effect. Raw milk is used often for its skin clearing and whitening properties.
