Kiehl’s Line-Reducing Eye-Brightening Concentrate Review

Hi Beauties,

We Indians have really been dealt an unfair hand by God, when he made our eyes. We were given big, beautiful, “mrignayni” eyes, but with under eye dark circles! Research studies have shown that while European and Western women deal more with fine lines and wrinkles, dark circles are more prominent among Asians, especially Indians. While there are many eye creams and serums for fine lines, countering dark circles is a totally different story. It is still in the very early stages of research and frankly, there have been very few success stories so far. I have very dark under eye circles due to all reasons known – Indian/woman/anemia/allergic tendencies/irregular sleeping habits. I have been through many different eye serums in the past. This product is one of my recent acquisitions. I have been using it for 3 months and now feel ready to finally review it for you.

KIEHL’S LINE REDUCING

With continued use, this treatment helps address some of the more serious signs of skin aging with a significant effect on sub-orbital wrinkles and crow’s-feet. A high dosage of vitamin C, when applied topically, has been shown to have a multitude of positive effects on the skin’s appearance. About the Active Ingredients:

The first is 10.5 % Vitamin C in the form of L-Ascorbic Acid. This high concentration of pure Vitamin C is a great antioxidant that’s great at protecting the delicate skin around the eyes and decreases age related skin spots. Aging also leads to a breakdown of collagen and elastic fibres, which ultimately cause fine lines and wrinkles. Vitamin C helps in building up of collagen protein and regular use may actually cause decrease in the fine lines and wrinkles.

The other main active ingredient is Haloxyl. It is a synthetic formulation, designed to provide moisture and absorb the dark circle causing pigment present in blood.

My Experience with Kiehl’s Line-Reducing Eye-Brightening Concentrate:

The product comes in an opaque tube packaging with a small opening, which helps in keeping the Vitamin C active in the packaging. While active Vitamin C is good for the skin, it gets inactive (oxidised) easily and may do more harm than good. Hence it’s better to keep the product as less exposed to sun and air as possible; and do check the shelf life. Please do not use it beyond the shelf life mentioned. One tube is probably going to last you 45-60 days, depending on your usage frequency. I am on my second tube right now, with twice a day usage.

The concentrate is white in color with a really thin consistency. On closer inspection, I do see some very minute micro shimmer particles.  It has a nice, mild floral kind of fragrance, which actually does not bother me. The thin consistency does help in easy spreading of the product, as well as easy absorption into the thin under eye area skin. A small, half a pea-sized amount is more than enough under each eye, since it spreads so easily and so quickly. It makes the under eye area look a bit oily at first, but then gets absorbed within a few minutes, making the area smooth and moist and bright.

On application, I first noticed some heating sensation in my under eye area. This was followed by some really strong burning sensation so much so that I actually rinsed it off and re-did the patch test. After my patch test came negative, I re-applied it in a smaller quantity, but still I had the same reaction. However, it did not cause any problem in my eye area in the long run and the burning sensation did wane off after the first 7-10 days.

Now the results – my under eye area does look more firm and toned up after 3 months of use. A few fine lines look minimized in appearance.  It makes the eye area look smooth, and a bit brighter, but not much. It also provides a nice base for concealer and other makeup application, especially if you have dry under-eye area. However, it has not helped my dark circles much. It does reduce the intensity of dark circles, which I have if I am having a late night and sleep deprivation. However, the permanent kind of dark circles, have been more or less in the same place with the same intensity – there’s no change in that at all!

Pros of Kiehl’s Line-Reducing Eye-Brightening Concentrate:

  • Good packaging, appropriate to keep the ingredients active.
  • Thin consistency.
  • Immediately gets absorbed into the skin.
  • Keeps the under-eye area moist, smooth and bright.
  • Has firmed and toned up the under-eye area.
  • Decreases fine lines to a great extent.
  • No parabens.

Cons of Kiehl’s Line-Reducing Eye-Brightening Concentrate:

  • Heating sensation.
  • Burning sensation, which wanes off after few days.
  • Does not help with dark circles.
  • Expensive.
  • Limited availability in India.

Would I recommend Kiehl’s Line-Reducing Eye-Brightening Concentrate?

If you are someone who does not have major under eye dark circles, then this one is definitely for you. It does help in reducing lines and brightening up the under-eye area, but it does not reduce the dark under eye circles much, contrary to the claims.

  1. DOc, you have achieved the photography level you always wanted to, lovely lovely lovely clicks. You are lucky you get Kiehl’s stuff hands on in India, we don’t and have to pay hefty shipping and taxes, so this is a skip for me ….

  2. I am using this product from one week, I feel disappointed by the results I am seeing lately. Lines under my eyes have increased and its not done any good to the dark circles as well. I would not recommend such product to any one.
