Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cream Review

Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cream

I have been using Kiehl’s products from past many days now. In fact since the brand sent the sample sizes so I took the whole kit along with me to Singapore and I am almost finished using everything by now. And before the empty bottles find their way to the bin, I would review everything this week itself.

What is Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cream?

  • 24 Hour, light-textured hydrator
  • Reduces moisture loss
  • Continuous water replenishment throughout day
  • Inspired by our original, Ultra Facial Moisturizer
  • Not tested on animals

Application : Apply to clean facial skin day or night as needed to combat moisture depletion.

My experience with Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cream:

  • Kiehl’s Ultra Facial cream is a pure white cream with a texture that is between gel and a regular cream.
  • It gets absorbed in the skin easily but during super humid days it used to take a while to get completely absorbed and I had to wait for a a minute or so before applying my makeup. I would say this is not for you if you have oily skin.
  • I am very happy with the way it moisturized my skin. In fact, on days when my skin really craves for moisture, this cream calms my skin and makes it supple.
  • On the very day I landed in Singapore, I got a few dry patches on my skin, I applied this cream and by evening my skin was repaired and it looked soft.
  • It has a little medicinal smell when you smell it in the jar but when you apply it on your face you barely smell anything.
  • It has glycerin, avocado oil, olive fruit oil, rice barn oil and soya bean oil- everything that my dry skin would thank for.
  • It’s a lovely hand cream also.
  • I have never faced any skin irritation on my skin with this. It has always and always calmed my skin.
  • The long list of ingredients scare me a little especially the presence of urea and parabens.

Here is a little cosmetics analysis list I picked up from here. The happy, neutral, and sad smileys reflect the ingredients status in the cream. :

Overall I liked the cream so much that this might even become my HG cream in coming days. It’s just the right combination of moisturizing and quick absorption.

  1. 😀 😀 😀 I am back…I am back…am back…errr…did anyone notice I was missing ?:-) ?:-) I guess I will have to use this cream as a hand cream only 🙁

  2. I should open a belan shop 😀 Super busy work and cooking..I really don’t like Onam..is wayy too much cooking, and I don’t even like the food that much :-(( :-((

  3. BTW..I did peep in once in a while to see if Jomol has been up to any mischief here in my absence..but yippppeeee…she is missing as well. How lucky can I get   :jump:

  4. So this prod wudn’t suit me… Prob they mite have somethin for oily skin… But this looks like a fantastic product… I wudn’t mind buying products from this brand after hearin so much 🙂

    1. Priya, on site they mention that it’s not for “very oily” skin. Now I wonder whether there is a major difference between very oily and oily skin. ?:-)

        1. Its very oily…oily..and then very slightly oily…from higher to lower…and there is combination-oily..combination-normal :nerd: :nerd: It all depends on the brand..and once you hit 30..you will also learn all about anti-ageing and how you are being cruel to your skin cos you havent started with new miracle treatment 😐 😐

  5. Buy nutmeg..will be there in the spice section of most shops. Once you powder it I think something ?:-) goes off from it..so you should just grate a bit that you need from the big piece. Where did you get aloe from…you have a plant at home?

  6. the product looks good but wud hv liked it if they pay some attention to packaging too…i knw this brand was started by chemists etc but still

    1. HD ,

The packaging for all the products is plane jane, I agree. But guess they want to keep it like that only , guess that differentiates them from other brands. 🙂

  7. I actually liked the packaging..or the lack of it ?:-) Guess am just strange that way – though some time back I would have automatically ignored this cos it looks like its straight out of some pharmacy shop and so boring :idk: :idk: :idk: :idk:

    1. You know Rads, I am not a packaging person as such. But honestly I am okay with the way they are packaged especially the tubes. It was so easy to carry all the stuff with me.

  8. except for the rounded white lid, this packaging looks quite similar to philosophy’s skin care range. i think all products worth buying from kiehl’s are going to be expensive.

  9. Hmmm… These are verrrryyy famous na???

If it suits you, it would suit me too.. Our skins are pretty similar na…

One can never have enough moisturising…

    Waiting for the other reviews…

If I come to Delhi in Dec, I might get my hands on some of these..

    1. Yeah we do have similar skin and I might pick up a bigger jar of this in September when the store opens so will get a better idea as to how this works in winters also. 🙂 Seriously can’t get enough moisturizing , our skin just craves for it.

I think Kiehl’s products would be worth a try.

  10. hi rati, the mixed reviews from all has left me in doubt 😕 …as i have heard lot about this product..do u have any suggestion for any moisturizer suitable for combination skin that would give dewy look and not leave it greasyyyy like a frying pan 😉 😉

  11. This sounds good, I have pretty dry skin myself, but then with so many chemicals that you don’t like, how can it be HG? ?:-) 😕

    1. Exactly what Rads mentioned below. This cream has kept my skin so good with the continuous changing weather in Singapore and I am still using every last bit of it. I apply it once during the day and my skin is soft and smooth the entire day. Even my hands are so well moisturized once I apply it. It just works for me.

Some ingredients might be harmful on their own but when mixed with other ingredients, they reach to a certain balance.

  12. 😐 I guess its just strikes the right balance between ingredients which might not be exactly yippeee-yayyyy and a superbly effective product. I have this confusion all the time, but now I have decided if the product works for me, great – that’s my stand right now..might change it tomorrow 😀 😀 😀 All this ingredient checking habit of mine started with Lush, and they use the not-so-popular parabens!

      1. Oh me tooooooooo…of course, I am totally biased, the Lush-way, so I am veryyy bothered about the mineral oils and am willing to ignore the rest of the baddies :idk:

        1. haha i think i’ll try to be open towards trying more things now.. 🙂 and not be the grumpy old grandma when all my friends rave about pretty things, and i complain about everything bad in them 😛

    1. Oh and you know i read the vitamin E cream review of yours, even i’m getting those black spots.. :(( guess i’ll make my first daring purchase while i’m very much in knowledge of the ingredients. 😀

      1. i agree.can’t wait for your review on other kiehl products !! you see its so expensive cannot even consider trying before hearing a good review on the products 🙁

          1. Hey do they give samples first ?:-) I thot they gave me samples at Lancome and Clarins only cuz I got things from them.. 🙄

            1. I am not sure, Priya but on their website they have mentioned “try our samples” so I hope they follow the same trend here in India as well.

              1. Rati, if I am correct, its an option where you can pick any 3 samples of their products along with your purchase..I might be wrong, but I think thats how it works :-((

                1. Though I have to say this – I have seen people who hoard up on samples and use those with absolutely no intention of ever buying a product from there. I used to and still do crib about Lush, but I know people who pick up samples from Lush – they don’t even know what they have picked up the product what it is used for – its free so grab as much as you can – and they never ever buy anything from there!!!! I was so irritated cos I was thinking no wonder Lush never gives samples in India :reallyangry: No meant to offend anyone, but I feel bad because some of us actually would like to test products before we buy them, and we miss out on the samples.

                2. I’m completely with you Radhika.. I hope Kiehl gives sample.. Even though I trust the brand, I would like to test it before I start using it.. I’m sure the product would be expensive and I don’t want to burn a hole..

Plus want to make sure that it suits my skin before i start using it 🙂

  13. Rads, that’s exactly the reason Lush has stopped giving out the samples. You know the other day I was at Estee Lauder and a lady walks in asking if they give out sample of some XYZ product. When the MUA said that they don’t give out samples of that particular product, she was like okay what samples you give. And I was so disgusted…she just wanted sample of anything that they gave out. I don’t blame these companies now but it kind of bugs because especially for luxury brands you would like to sample out the products before purchasing. Thankfully with makeup, atleast they have these trained MUAs who help us select right products. It would have been very difficult otherwise.

    1. Exactly! This person I know got Herbalism or Angels on Bare Skin..she doesnt even know which one for sure…anyways..she didn’t like it. Ok fine, it doesnt suit you so you needn’t waste your money on that. But no, she goes another 2-3 times and gets the same sample..because thats the only sample they were giving, and I thought I was mad 😀 I read a complaint online somewhere too about MAC India not giving enough samples..the lady had wanted to try 2-3 foundations, and they guys at the store were hesitant to give, but eventually were putting it in small containers and giving, but she was not happy with the quantity. Can you believe that!!

      1. yeah right. If they start giving out samples as per your whims and fancies, they would have to shut down soon. 😛

MAC barely gives out samples but I am okay with it because i get to test and try every product at the store and they always give decent suggestions. Also they are never pushy.

                1. Hahahahaa….nice try. Nope…I bought a brown-shimmery one and I got a plain brown one freee freeeeeeeeeeee freeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee…

  14. Nice post Rati… I just apply a thick layer of J&J cream at night to moisturize my face… but i’m planning to get ~~~ Body Shop vitamin E sink in moisturizer ~~~ is it GOOD ?

  15. Hi Rati i was just looking for an Indian beauty blog and i found y’rs. I live in the USA and have been using Kiel’s products for quite some time now. I must say that they are really good especially their Vit C serum and Sunscreen. Try them and let me know…..
