Kiko Cupcake Nail Lacquer in Pineapple, Strawberry and Wisteria Review

Hello all,

I had been longing to lay my hands on some Kiko cosmetics for some time now, but unfortunately, I do not have a Kiko store close-by and until recently, they did not ship to US locations via their online site. But all that has changed now with their new online store for US customers and needless to say, I hauled a few products.  Today, I am reviewing 3 lovely shades from the Kiko Cupcake Nail Lacquer range – 648.Pineapple, 651.Strawberry and 653.Wisteria. Read on to know more details about these nail lacquers.

My Experience with Kiko Cupcake Nail Lacquer in Pineapple, Strawberry and Wisteria:

Packaging / Brush Applicator:  I have to admit that I bought the nail lacquer because I was so smitten with that adorable polka dot packaging. The bottle is a simple rectangular shape with a white cap with colorful dots. The bottle is quite handy and sleek. The quantity is 11 ml. For reasons unknown to me, the bottles only have numbers printed on them, but the website carries the names of the shades (and they are such cute names). I personally do not like numbers as they feel very impersonal.

The brush is wide and flat and makes the application easy and precise. You can cover the entire nail bed in 2 swipes. Also, there is no streaking.

Texture/Finish/Pigmentation:  This is a texture nail lacquer and has fine granules/particles which impart a grainy sandy feel to the nails. The finish is matte and once dry, the grains stand out and look as well as feel rough. This might not sound appealing but definitely looks unique. I am still on the fence about whether I like it or not 😛

The texture and pigmentation is such that even a single coat is enough to cover all nails. In fact, multiple layers will only make it look too rough and hence I would recommend keeping it to 1-2 coats.

Drying Power/Staying Power:  The nail polish dries pretty fast (around a minute). The staying power is pretty good too and the polish easily stays on my nails for 3-4 days. Since, this is a nail lacquer which is supposed to look rough, there is no fading.

Now, for some detailed review of each of the colors:

648  Pineapple:  This is a beautiful pastel yellow shade. I was skeptical about wearing a yellow nail polish as I thought it would end up making the hands look darker. But, this nail polish allayed my concerns. It looks lovely on the hands and doesn’t look garish at all. The grains are multi-colored but orange colored grains stand out.

651 Strawberry:  This is a delicate baby pink. A shade which anybody will instantly fall in love with. I loved how it made my hands look beautiful and dainty. The grains are again multi-colored but the red colored grains stand out.

653 Wisteria:  This is a pastel periwinkle blue shade. The grains are again multi-colored but the blue and red colored grains stand out.
