Kose Nature & Co. Three Butters Lip Essence vs. Canmake Day & UV Lip Serum Review

Hi guys!
I have a comparison review for you today. We are pitting Canmake against Kose in the battle of lip serums/essences (which are essentially the same thing). Let’s see which one wins!!

The Kose Nature & Co. lip essence has 3 butters (as the name suggests): shea butter, cacao butter and macadamia nut butter. The Canmake lip serum is supposed to have colour and UV protection. It has SPF 14 PA+.

Both the products come in convenient and travel-friendly squeeze tubes. I don’t find much difference in the application of either. They both work well and have minimalistic packaging. The Kose lip essence has 8.9 mL of product whereas the Canmake lip serum has 10 g of product. Both products are made in Japan.

Consistency/feel on the lips:
I have the Canmake lip serum since march now (when it was still winter) and at the time, it was so difficult to spread it all over the lips because the consistency was quite thick. Now that the weather is warmer, it is little more liquid-y in consistency and easier to spread. This looks like a lip gloss when applied. It is also a bit tacky, something I am not fond of.

I would say the Kose lip essence is also very easy to spread on the lips but it is a lot less liquid-y. It does not look like a gloss by any means. But overall, I think both of these are very comfortable on the lips.

As for the scent, the Canmake serum is unscented and the Kose essence has a very cocoa butter-type scent. It is absolutely delightful.

Pigmentation:
The Kose lip essence is colourless but the Canmake one has a slight bit of colour to it. It looks like light pink when first squeezed out. It does not show up on me but I am sure it will show up on lighter skin tones more.

Hydration/staying power:
I feel both do a good job of hydration. But I feel, generally, a lip balm does a better job at staying on your lips for longer if it is thicker. Kose lip essence is a bit thicker in that aspect and lasts just a bit longer. But both do not survive drinking/eating.

Final thoughts:
While I think both do an equally good job, I prefer Canmake lip serum for daytime because it contains UV protection and the Kose one for night to get intense hydration overnight. So they both have different but equal uses in my routine.

Pros of Canmake Day & UV Lip Serum:

• Has UV protection.
• Runnier consistency.
• Has a slight hint of colour – does not show up on me.
• Hydrates well.

Cons of Canmake Day & UV Lip Serum:

• Tacky to touch.
• Less long-lasting than Kose essence.

Pros of Kose Nature & Co. Three Butters Lip Essence:

• Has the goodness of 3 different butters: shea butter, cacao butter and macadamia nut butter.
• Hydrates well.
• Delightful scent.

Cons of Kose Nature & Co. Three Butters Lip Essence:

• None

IMBB Rating of Canmake Day & UV Lip Serum: 4.5/5

Which would I Recommend, Kose Nature & Co. Three Butters Lip Essence or Canmake Day & UV Lip Serum?
I would personally recommend the Kose essence over the Canmake serum if you are looking for intense hydration but just for day time, I would recommend the Canmake serum.
