L.A. Colors On The Cover Beauty Make-Up Kit – Every Makeup Lover’s Dream

Hello Beautifuls,

As you all know, I am getting ready for a small trip to India in a couple of months, hence my weekends are mostly dedicated to shopping for everyone there since it’s my first visit post wedding. I haven’t been to my home and saasuland since wedding for almost 4 years, which naturally makes me feel nervous as they might be expecting compensation out of our much-awaited India trip. We are already flooded with number of demands and purchase orders which will certainly do more than burning a hole in our pockets.  Thankfully, this brand LA Colors came to our rescue in perfect time. I won’t say this makeup kit from L.A. Colorsis perfect, but so far, it has not disappointed, especially if you want to pick it up for people who you hardly know but intend to impress through your gift gestures 😛 So, let’s talk in detail about LA Colors On The Cover Beauty Makeup Kit.

My Experience with L.A. Colors On The Cover Beauty Make-Up Kit:

Actually, I should thank my sis for introducing me to these amazing goodies.  I am really happy with this deal, it’s like I hit a jackpot. However, leaving the eye shadow palette, blush and blush powder and the nail paint which are really impressive and way too pigmented than expected; the rest of it is just quite average.  But then I should not complain about a makeup kit that costs 5-7 bucks and comes with 20-20 piece products in one case, isn’t it? Talking about my most-loved product out of this kit – the 12-piece eye shadow palette with duo applicator, which is not my forte actually, but I can well notice how pigmented and creamy they are.

If you notice them closely, you can figure out – a few shades are quite gradient while it includes only two smokey bronze, brown shades apart from a variety of rainbow shades like soft pink, gradient purple, etc., hence I feel this palette will best suit young gals and new brides, and also those who are versatile with eye makeup unlike gals who are more into neutrals and smoky eye makeup.

Almost all colors are intensely pigmented and pop out perfectly on well hydrated and primed eyelids. They do appear gracefully on medium/tan skin apart from enhancing fair/light skin tones as my sis tried these and she is quite impressed with “no fallout” and creamy quality of these eyeshadows. Yes gals, they are absolutely great for a variety of Asian/Indian skin tones at a reasonable price with no fallout and no chalky texture so far.

The staying power with primer is good for 3-4 hours which is again satisfactory at such a price tag I feel.  Even the duo applicator does an amazing job with ease of application and precision, though you may prefer to use eyeshadow brush for precise and intense color payoff. It is quite sturdy and soft, hence no tugging or pulling.  It also does not cause any irritation or other issues on sensitive skin. The only downside I see is that there are not many neutral and smoky shades and a few shades like pink and orange can be replaced with other versatile shades, but then it is too much to expect at this price.

The duo blush and blush brush are amazing.  The blushes are intensely pigmented with one peachy neutral blush and one soft plum, apt for winters. I really admire both shades and their packaging is so tempting.  Even my sister tried the plum shade on my skin in broad day light and I felt quite comfortable and glowing and in fact I loved this soft plum over peach. I did not like the brush much since my Sephora professional brush does the job of blending and buffing. I believe if we have the right quality of brush, then these shades would rock.  I like their powdery texture which is suitable for oily skin I believe. Peachy blush might seem tricky on beginners like me, but this plum shade is definitely going to suit all skin tones in winters.  However, their staying power might depend on our skin type as they hardly stay for 3-4 hours on oily skin with primer alone though. Overall, I feel it is certainly a promising shade for every beauty irrespective of skin type and skin tone.

The nail paint is bright magenta pink, which is quite pigmented and gives an opaque and glossy finish in just two swipes. It does manage to stay for good 4-5 days without chipping and peeling and it’s way more than what we get with a few other branded nail paints, isn’t it? However, the shade is not my cup of tea to be honest, but it can be used in nail arts or mixed up with other shades to make it more appealing considering its durability and quality.

The black mascara seems slightly tricky to me as it tends to dry out quickly and might cause clumps.  It is an intense black mascara which does the fair job of curling, but it does not add volume to the lashes.  It does curl the lashes and would make your eyes look wider and bigger. Quality is promising, does not irritate sensitive eyes and I feel it’s a good deal in the kit.

The black liner pencil seems to tug and pull initially, but smoothes out after a bit, but does not become too soft.  I don’t feel it is good enough to be used on waterline. It might do a good job as an eyeliner for upper lids though. It does have average staying power on oily eyelids and hence it is another average good stuff in this kit.

The lipstick is a slightly bold fuchsia pink shade, which did not appeal seem unappealing to me since fuchsia is not my cup of tea. Guess it will look decent on tan/olive or porcelain skin tone. It is not much pigmented and seems more like a glossy lip color to me. What so ever, it is certainly my least liked stuff in this kit!

The pencil sharpener is quite decent and does help in getting precise tip with not only the LA stuff, but works with other brand lip liner and eye liner pencils. Hence it is quite a good addition in this kit.  It will help in sharpening any brand pencil.

Overall, I feel this kit is a great steal in the $5-$10 price range since a majority of items included are good and none of the products included can be considered as a disappointment.  I am so tempted to grab more of these kits as gifts, they would really make an awesome gift for makeup lovers.  I am hoarding these kits without any second thought, it fits my budget plus it is loaded with possible dream list of my relatives and friends.

Let’s sum up pros and cons:

Pros of L.A. Colors On The Cover Beauty Make-Up Kit:

  • An excellent choice of assorted 20-piece versatile makeup products in one single kit.
  • Quality of 12 piece eye shadow and duo blush is really comparable to many drugstore quality brands.
  • A majority of the eyeshadows provided will suit a variety of India/Asian skin tones and it’s a good choice for gals who are fond of versatile eye makeup.
  • Staying power of the blushes and eyeshadows is quite decent, which is quite impressive.
  • Texture of eyeshadows is really powdery with no fall outs.  They do not feel chalky at all.
  • The duo blush is versatile and powdery.
  • The pencil sharpener is decent.
  • Nail paint quality is another pleasant surprise with amazing staying power of 5-6 days without chipping or peeling.
  • This kit is quite a steal at 5-7 bucks with a variety of makeup products.

Cons of L.A. Colors On The Cover Beauty Make-Up Kit:

  • Parabens, petrolatum, in the ingredients list.
  • Choice of shades in the eyeshadow palette could have been better.
  • Mascara feels clumsy at times.
  • Pencil liner feels harsh on the skin initially.
  • Pencil liner is not suitable for waterline.
  • The lipstick shade would not suit everyone.
  • Blush brush is not up to mark, but still better at the price.
  • Frequent touch ups would be needed since the staying power is 4-5 hours, on oily skin especially.

Well, I think I should not have any complaints at such a price, honestly.  But since we are ought to figure out pros and cons of our purchase, I am giving insight of this kit and personally I feel the cons can be easily ignored (except parabens and other ingredients which might irritate sensitive skin).  I bought one for 5 bucks and I bought 10 kits already, waiting to hoard more since they are too cheap and I have plenty of friends, acquaintances, and relatives who are certainly expecting something from my trip.  For me, this kit definitely deserves 4.2/5!
