My Experience with L.A. Girl Lipliner Pencil GP540 Terra Cotta:

Packaging:
Starting off with the packaging of the product. It comes in a sharpenable pencil form but does not contain a sharpener in the packaging. These pencils have a colour-coded band similar to the colour of the lipliner inside. The rest of the pencil is black in colour with the logo of the brand and the shade name embossed on it. The pencil looks very sleek and travel-friendly. It has a black cap on top which closes tightly in place and hence it would be a mess to carry it to places.

The pencil comes initially sealed with a cellophane wrapper to prevent tampering with its packaging. It contains no significant details of the ingredient list on the packaging, which is a drawback of this packaging. The pencil breaks very easily if you put a little bit of pressure while using the liner. This leads to product wastage. I feel there should also have been a sharpener provided also with the pencil. Overall, the packaging is very simple and travel-friendly.

Shade:
The shade ‘Terracotta’ is a beautiful brown-based terracotta shade with warm undertones. I love this shade a lot. It falls more under the rust colour category. It will flatter all skin tones. Originally, the lipliner was designed to line your lips to make your lip colour last longer and to give them a well-defined shape. But you can also wear it as a lip colour. I love how it looks on my complexion and I am happy how it does the job of both a lip colour and a lip liner. I would love to wear more of such shades on a daily basis.

Pigmentation:
The shade ‘Terracotta’ provides decent pigmentation in multiple swipes. It is fully pigment packed and the colour looks quite rich on the lips. However, it can’t conceal lip pigmentation properly. I have lightly pigmented lips due to suntan. But it can cover that well. On my lips, it takes 3-4 swipes for a fuller coverage. The formula is buildable and adjusts well to layering. Overall, the pigmentation is decent but nothing groundbreaking. It is able to provide a good colour payoff if you apply multiple coats.

Texture and Finish:
The texture of this lip pencil is not creamy at all. It does not glide smoothly and causes slight pulling and tugging of lips. If your lips are dry and not primed well, the pointed tip of the pencil can hurt your lips. It is not that easy and comfortable to work with this lip liner. The formula is also not hydrating and can dry out your lips if you do not use a lip balm underneath.

I am quite disappointed with the texture of this lip liner. I just didn’t expect it to perform like this and that too coming from a famous brand like L.A. Girl. They could have improved the texture of the lip liner. Coming to the finish, it gives a drying matte kind of finish which can be a bit annoying. The lip liner contains no shimmer pigments in it and is completely matte. This lipliner makes your lips look patchy and highlights the fine lines very prominently.

L.A. Girl Lipliner Pencil GP540 Terra Cotta Tip

You must exfoliate and prep your lips prior to applying this; otherwise, the dryness and discomfort can surely ruin your day. It is advisable to moisturise your lips with a lip balm to keep them hydrated and healthy looking. I was thinking of using it as an eyeliner as well, but now it is a big NO for me owing to its bad texture of course! Well, I can’t hurt my eyelids for this.

Staying Power:
The longevity of this lip liner is for about 5-6 hours on my lips. It can survive light meals but the colour looks faded. But it fades away completely with oily meals. It needs complete reapplication after this, but this is quite messy since the formulation is not creamy and smooth. On primed lips, it lasts for 7-8 hours. Removing this lip liner is pretty easy. Use any normal makeup remover or wet wipes and it gets wiped off completely.

Overall:
The colour ‘Terracotta’ is a versatile colour and is a must-have in one’s makeup stash. If you are looking for a budget-friendly lipliner, this could be your pick. The shade range is cool and you will find a true match to your lipstick. But texture wise, this won’t impress you. I think investing in a good lipliner but paying a little higher price would be a better idea. I may buy this colour just for the beautiful and unique shade that Terracotta is.
