LA Girl Velvet Contour Stick Review

Hello friends,

I was looking for an affordable highlighter for long. This contouring stick range from LA Girls has blushes, contour sticks and highlighter sticks in the range. Though the blushes and contouring sticks have got mixed reviews, I saw people in general loving the highlighters. So, I wanted to get one of them. Among the three shades available, this shade looked perfect for my skin tone and I bought this one.

My Experience with LA Girl Velvet Contour Stick:

The highlighter comes in a twist-up pan stick like packaging. It has a plastic body and a transparent plastic cap. All the details along with the ingredients and shade name is mentioned on the body. The plastic body is pretty sturdy; however the plastic cap does not shut too tightly and carrying it in a bag can be messy. You can pack this one separately it a zip-lock pouch when you carry it in your makeup bag.

The shade is a beautiful champagne shade with very fine shimmer. There is no chunky glitter and after blending it thoroughly, it creates a subtle glow without making you look over the top. One swipe of it is enough for highlighting a particular region; however, it is buildable too and you can achieve the required intensity.

The texture is creamy which becomes completely matte after blending. As applying the product directly from the pan stick can get messy, I usually take it in my finger tips, blend it well, and apply on the brow bones, on the cheekbones, and on the bridge of nose. I find it easier to use the finger tips instead of a brush as it gives the required finish. The powdery texture does not melt or become oily even after long. It does not highlight the pores and dry patches and never breaks me out.

The highlighter stays on for 4-5 hours with a primer and then fades away evenly. I expected a little more staying power, but for a product at this price, probably it is alright. Also, sweat does not budge it and the product does not spread all over the face, which is definitely a good sign.

Overall, I am happy with this product as a beginner. If you have not used a highlighter before, you can use the shades from this range to know the right shade for you and then invest on a better quality product.

Pros of LA Girl Velvet Contour Stick:

  • Affordable product.
  • Beautiful shade with fine shimmers.
  • Settles down to a powdery matte texture.
  • Does not make the skin oily.
  • Does not highlight pores and other imperfections.

Cons of LA Girl Velvet Contour Stick:

  • Cap does not shut tightly, can open in a bag.
  • Application directly from the pan-stick is not possible.
  • Staying power is not long..

Would I Repurchase/Recommend LA Girl Velvet Contour Stick?
No, next time, I would prefer using a proper powder highlighter with golden shimmers. You can use it if you love the pan-stick packaging and cream to matte texture. Or you can skip it as in similar price range you can find some powdery highlighter too.
