La Mer The Treatment Fluid Foundation Broad Spectrum SPF 15 Review

Hello ladies,

La Mer is a luxury brand and their skin care is quite renowned. Recently, I hauled a bunch of makeup from La Mer and this review will be on the La Mer The Treatment Fluid Foundation Broad Spectrum SPF 15 in the shade “Creme.”

My Experience with La Mer The Treatment Fluid Foundation Broad Spectrum SPF 15:

Packaging:  This foundation comes in a frosted glass bottle. The design is quite sleek, elegant and simple with a white cap and a pump. Even though the design is minimalistic and simple, I still find it aesthetically pleasing.

Texture and Blend-ability:  This foundation has a thin texture. It is not super watery or runny. It spreads and blends out on the skin effortlessly. I find that even with just my finger tips (which is actually my preferred method to apply this foundation), I get an even and streak-free finish. You could use a Beauty Blender sponge too, but I find that using a sponge gives me lesser coverage than my fingertips.

Coverage:  I find it takes about 1- 1 ½ pumps for me to cover my entire face. This foundation offers light- medium coverage which is buildable. You could get borderline medium-full coverage with this foundation, but that would require a whole lot of product in one go which is not a good idea since this is such an expensive foundation.

Finish:  This foundation sets quickly onto the skin and has finish which does not stay tacky on the skin hence setting this foundation with a powder is optional for me on my normal-dry skin. It gives a very natural-looking demi-matte finish to the skin, which is quite radiant and luminous without being dewy. I find that this foundation only looks better as the day wears on and it meshes with your skin and gives your skin a perfected appearance while still being undetectable.

Feel and Look on skin:  The thing I did not like about this foundation was that even though it is mildly hydrating, it was very unforgiving on my dry patches. It clung to any rough texture on my skin and looked flaky and no matter how much I moisturized prior to use and even added a couple drops of facial oil to this foundation if you have any sort of uneven texture on your skin, this foundation will find it and bring it forth in the most unflattering way. It looked amazing on my normal skin days, but on days my skin is even borderline dry, I have to steer clear of this product.

I had the same issue with the La Mer concealer with it being drying which I find quite surprising since La Mer (which literally translates to water) and their products are based on the beneficial qualities of hydration for your skin. However, I did like that this foundation never sunk into my pores and there was very minimal creasing through the wear.

Shade:  This foundation comes in about 10 shades. My shade is “Crème,” which is quite a good match for my MAC NW22 skin tone. It has a neutral undertone. I did not find this to oxidize on me.

Staying Power:  This foundation wore quite well on my skin. I got a good 8+ hours with this foundation without much fading. I only saw a little bit of fading around my nose or areas of my face where I tend to touch a lot. There was no shine coming through nor did I ever feel the need to touch up or blot.

Fragrance:  This foundation does have a moderately strong makeup scent mixed with perfume which I am not a fan of, but it is bearable.

Overall, this is a great product, but it is not for everyone. I feel this foundation can work for most skin types including oily and moderately dry but will look and perform the best on those with normal-combination skin. If you have dry skin or have uneven texture, be it from dry patches or acne scarring, I would not recommend this foundation. I do really love the very natural flawless appearance this foundation gives to my skin (I have even gotten compliments from strangers when I have worn this) without looking like makeup at all. Hence I will recommend this.

Pros of La Mer The Treatment Fluid Foundation Broad Spectrum SPF 15:

  • Easy to blend, gives a streak-free finish.
  • Blends effortless even with fingertips.
  • Gives light-medium coverage, which is buildable.
  • Sets by itself without a need for powder on my normal-dry skin, but oily skin might need to use some.
  • Gives a very natural-looking, demi-matte finish which looks radiant and luminous without looking dewy.
  • Looks undetectable on the skin.
  • Does not sink into pores even without any primer.
  • Good staying power.
  • Contains SPF 15.

Cons of La Mer The Treatment Fluid Foundation Broad Spectrum SPF 15:

  • Expensive.
  • You do need quite a bit of product if you are building up the coverage. You might need about 3 pumps if you want to achieve borderline full coverage.
  • Is very unforgiving on dry patches and rough texture on skin. It will cling on and won’t look better no matter how much you try to fix it with facial mist or facial oils.
  • Moderately strong makeup perfume hybrid scent, which I don’t like.
