La Roche-posay Anthelios 60 Ultra Light Sunscreen Fluid

La Roche-Posay is a popular European skin care brand and its Anthelios Sunscreens with Mexoryl are cult favourites. It has got the widest range of sunscreen in the market today. From spray bottles to melt in milks for all skin and body types.

To know in detail about La Roche-Posay click here:

• It is more of a facial sunscreen. And it is SPF 60, which is some serious SPF.
• It is fast absorbing matte finish for normal-combination skin.
• There is no scent in this product. But it is very liquidy.it drips.
• There is a steel ball inside the bottle .you need to shake the bottle before you use it and u can hear the ball when you shake it.
• For Indian skin we are more prone to burning instead of the white skin.
• I can go on and on about how the sun damages your skin. So the necessities of a sunscreen in a country like ours.
Moderate exposure to the sun has a beneficial impact, including the production of vitamin D by the body; but excessive exposure to ultraviolet rays has detrimental health effects, including possible sunburn and even skin cancer. To avoid sunburn, most people apply suitable sunscreen to skin exposed to the sun, but others use oils to accelerate the tanning process.

If YOU are not using sunscreen in your daily skin care routine, mind you it is not optional. MY mum brags about how in their time they never used ANYTHING on their skin but today’s time is different from their times in many senses. There has been a change in the weather, dramatic change in the way we live, pollution and eating habits. All this with the harsh effect of sun can be disastrous.

A little about our skin and tan.

What Is Melanin?

Basically, melanin is produced by your skin so that you won’t be susceptible to sun damage. As soon as you are hit with the sun’s UV rays, whether from the natural sun or a tanning bed, your body would automatically protect itself from the UV rays by melanin production. This is achieved by cells in your body, called melanocytes. However, each melanocyte only produces a certain amount of melanin at a time. In fact, there are some people whose melanocytes produce only a little amount of melanin. There are also those that do not produce any at all.

There are people who have extremely sensitive skin and if you are one of them, you shouldn’t expose yourself to the sun, any more than necessary especially without any kind of protection. Actually, everybody has approximately the same amount of melanocyte cells inside their body. However, only those that have skin that is above “Skin Type I” would have these kind of cells, which has excess melanin to give your body a tan.

Are Melanin Cells Too?

Melanin is not a cell. It’s actually the pigment of your skin. Your melanocytes are the cells and they generally produce two kinds of pigments. One would be Phaeomelanin, which is a yellow or red colour; Eumelanin, which is coloured brown. If you have red hair, your skin would be producing more of the Phaeomelanin substance compared to the amount of eumelanin. However, melanin pigments are not naturally produced by most people that have fair skin. The only time that they can produce it is through the help of the sun’s activation. This is also the reason why some people who get a fairly good tan, can still end up having white skin if they do not get any more sun exposure.

How About Those with Dark Skin?

However, if you are not of Caucasian origin, your body’s melanin production would still continue even if your skin does not get any kind of regular sun exposure. The darker your skin tone the more amount of melanin is produced by your body. Your skin has also better adaptation skills when exposed to the sun in long durations. Even if you have a really dark skin pigment, you could still get sunburn from overexposure to the sun, but you would still get better protection compared to lighter skinned people.

I apply sunscreen not only to my face but to my neck and chest and the backs of my hands on a daily basis. Of course when I’m out and about for a day in short sleeve weather I apply it liberally all over. Aging, pigmentation and cancer what not is caused by our very dear mr. sun

Coming to the pros and cons.

Good Points of La Roche-Posay Anthelios 60 Ultra Light Sunscreen

• Fast absorbing
• Matte finish
• Spf 60
• Water resistant
• Non-comedogenic
• For sensitive skin
• Very long lasting
• Great fluidy texture easy to blend
• Dermatoligically recommended worldwide
• I like the cap. it is spill proof and you can very well control the amount you want

Bad Points of La Roche-Posay Anthelios 60 Ultra Light Sunscreen

• I do not know if it’s available in India.
• The price I think I got this bottle of ebay.com which is us eBay for about 27 usd
• A 1.7 ounce fluidy bottle for 27 usd is pretty expensive
• Lasted me a month

Apart from the non availability and price I think no con. Vogue magazine India had an article about la Roche posay and its availability. After all it’s a blessing in a bottle

Even though the bottle says for combination-normal skin. I’ve personally found out that it works pretty well on dry skin people as well. (Tried and tested on a dry skin friend) When I was tired with oiliness and greasiness of lot other sunscreens I searched a lot to find this one. And I hate myself for just buying one bottle as it is (saying again) hands down the best sunscreen I have ever used. I am a very content person using this for my face.

  12. It is available in India. A decent amount of La Roche Posay range has been launhced. I am using their anti acne range and loving it. I get it from Nath Brothers in Connaught Place in Delhi. This and Vichy are both from the same parent company so I am making a guarded guess that it might be available in stores that stock Vichy.
