La Roche-Posay Effaclar AI Targeted Breakout Corrector Review

Hi everyone,

Today, I will be reviewing a product from the well-known brand La Roche- Posay. This brand is a French brand and it has gained a lot of popularity for its amazing skin care products, most noticeably the La Roche Posay effaclar duo.  I am going to be reviewing another product from this brand that has also been designed to help with blemishes and acne scarring and it is the La Roche Posay Effaclar A.I Targeted Breakout Corrector.  I had never heard about this product until I came across it by chance online and then I decided to purchase it from my local Boots store.  So, let’s jump straight into the review of this product!

La Roche-Posay Effaclar AI Targeted Breakout Corrector

Price:

£9.50 (15 ml).

Ingredients:

I unfortunately threw away the box that the product came in and that had the ingredients on it as well as claims, so I am unable to take a picture of them, but here’s the complete list.

Product Description:

Oily skin prone to localized imperfections and blemishes. Targeted care for individual blemishes. Suitable for sensitive skin. Skin looks and feels clearer and smoother. Imperfections are visibly reduced as are residual marks.

My Take on La Roche-Posay Effaclar AI Targeted Breakout Corrector:

I will say it straight out – I wasn’t really a fan of this product because I don’t think it really worked for me. However, that doesn’t mean that there isn’t anything good at all with this product. One good thing about this spot cream is that it lasts for a long time, even though it only comes in a 15 ml tube. At first glance, I thought that this product would be finished in no time at all, but surprisingly, I have been using it for a while now.

That’s because, a little bit of this product goes a very long way and I only apply tiny little dots of product on my face because the formulation of the product is very creamy and not a lot is needed to cover the area of the blemish.

I also really like the packaging. The product comes in a small, white, narrow tube and it is perfect for taking out in your handbag as it hardly takes up any space.

The tube has a nozzle applicator so it is very easy to squeeze out just the right amount of product, since the nozzle is very narrow, it only squeezes out a tiny bit of product and I really like that aspect of it because it ensures that I am not wasting any product and taking just enough product for my blemish.

Like I said, the formulation of the product is creamy and the colour of the product is an opaque, white colour, it does not have a clear gel consistency like the effaclar duo. The product applies on opaque, but once blended in, it dries clear so it can be applied in the daytime too – what I have found with other spot creams is that they can sometimes dry opaque.

As well as this, it doesn’t have any scent/fragrance which I really like because scented products can aggravate my skin because it is sensitive. Once the product is applied onto the blemish, I simply blend it out with my fingers and it blends in very quickly and easily.  So until then, I thought that this product was great- but not for long unfortunately.

One thing I really don’t like about this product is that if I blend it in a little longer, it starts to flake and come away from the skin. In other words, the product becomes to look all patchy and this can be so frustrating because it looks horrible on my skin, little tiny flakes of product on my forehead and cheeks is not a great look.

The reason why I think it flakes is because the formulation of the product is wet and so you need to leave the product to dry, so I advise you all, to never rub the product in because it will start to flake off and leave an almost white cast on the blemish.

Instead of rubbing the product into my skin, I simply blend it in by tapping the product into my skin until it disappears.

As for how effective the product is, it’s okay but it isn’t anything I find amazing unfortunately, certainly not for the price. I haven’t really seen much of a difference using this product when I have little pimples, it does help with spots that are under the surface of the skin, but I haven’t really found my skin has improved much.

La Roche-Posay Effaclar AI Targeted Breakout Corrector

I have been using this product for months now and I still get pimples and my skin texture has not really improved. As well as this, my blemish scars are still very much noticeable, so I can’t say that this product has helped with the scarring. It also has not helped with preventing spots either because I still get them, especially small ones on my forehead.

So, overall I am not greatly impressed with this product. I don’t know if it is just my skin in particular, but it hasn’t actually done much in the way of improving my blemishes or scarring and it certainly has not prevented them from returning.

Pros of La Roche-Posay Effaclar AI Targeted Breakout Corrector:

  • Lasts a long time.
  • Only a little product is needed for the blemish.
  • Product comes in small tube, so it is travel friendly.
  • Does not contain any fragrance, perfect for sensitive skin.
  • Product dries clear once blended in.
  • Product is easy to squeeze out with nozzle applicator.

Cons of La Roche-Posay Effaclar AI Targeted Breakout Corrector:

  • Quite expensive.
  • Did not help with my blemish scars.
  • Did not help with preventing spots from coming back.
  • Can become flaky if rubbed into skin.
  • Can leave a white cast if the product has not been blended enough.

Would I Repurchase La Roche-Posay Effaclar AI Targeted Breakout Corrector?

No, I don’t think that this product was worth the price and I think that there are lots of other spot creams which are inexpensive yet more effective.

  1. I’m also a fan of La Roche Posay and I hear you on the pilling (product flaking/ rubbing away).
Effaclar is a wonderful range though so don’t give up on it Abbyramy.
Do try Effaclar Duo or Duo [+] which is great for preventing breakouts and keeping your skin clear. I love it so much I even blogged about it. Give it a go, you won’t regret it 🙂

    1. Hi, thank you for reading my review firstly! I agree with you, I have already tried effaclar duo and I really liked it so the fact that I did not like this product was a surprise. However, I will still continue to try their products in the future! 🙂
