La Roche Posay Effaclar Mat Sebo-Regulating Moisturiser Review

Hello beautiful ladies,

My Experience with La Roche Posay Effaclar Mat Sebo-Regulating Moisturiser:

This is a product specifically for those with oily skin. As the name suggests, it mattifies. It is a sebum regulating, mattifying moisturizer. It’s also meant to tighten pores, reduce the appearance of pores, even skin tone and make skin smoother. It is made with thermal spring water from La Roche Posay, making it a great emollient for your skin. It works for all skin types and is specifically great for sensitive skin.

I use this product underneath my foundation, as a primer. Even though I usually use my sunscreen as my primer, I pick up the Effaclar Mat when I feel like my skin is going rogue. When I feel I will have pimples soon or if my skin is too uneven, I apply this. I have been using this product for about 8 months and so far, it’s been good. I can’t say it’s 100% effective against blemishes, but it certainly does control them.

What works for me is the mattifying texture. It really makes my makeup stay even when it’s super sweaty; and protects my skin at the same time. This product is also a hydrating moisturizer, so it can be used without your daily moisturizer. However, I layer it over my daily moisturizer for extra protection. Unlike most matte products, the texture of the product isn’t matte when I first take it out of the tube. It is a pearly white hydrating liquid that turns matte when applied on the face.

The product claims to improve skin complexion and smoothen skin. I felt no such thing. The only time I feel it is when I have the product applied on my face. Also, the smell is a bit off. The product smells like a hospital, very medicinal. I don’t know if any of us want our beauty products to smell like that.

I’ve been thinking that maybe I don’t use the product enough. So, I’ve decided to use it as my night moisturizer. Maybe then it’ll perform to its fullest. Putting aside the undesirable smell and false claims, this really is a good product. It may not be a permanent solution, but is an efficient temporary solution to blemishes and sensitive, oily skin.

Pros of La Roche Posay Effaclar Mat Sebo-Regulating Moisturiser:

  • Great for oily skin.
  • Suitable for sensitive skin.
  • Emollient.
  • Affordable.
  • Can be used as a primer.
  • Hydrating.

Cons of La Roche Posay Effaclar Mat Sebo-Regulating Moisturiser:

  • Unpleasant smell.
  • Does not fully live up to the claims.

IMBB Rating:

4/5

  1. I have heard a lot of this brand La Roche Posay and its efficacy. Thankfully I don’t have any skin issues so I don’t need to use most of its products. But this one seems good to be used as a primer.

  2. This moisturiser is a boon for oily skin beauties. Even most of the high end primers don’t control oil secretion properly. If it can really manipulate sebum secretion and do not irritate even sensitive skin then it should be a must have for ladies specially in this humid weather.

  3. I was looking for a pore minimiser as i tend have enlarged pores and uneven skin tone is also one of my problems but i have skin on the drier side. I wanted a light moisturizer, should i go for this one?
