Ola Bonita Chica’s!
All of us are in the endless quest for that perfect red lip. One that will make us feel like the hottest celebrity, make us look delectable and delightful and Oscar red carpet worthy. So does my review today help you find your holy grail red? Well- yes and no. Read on to find out!
This product comes in a transparent plastic tube packaging with a gold screw on top. On opening it has a long applicator with a sponge end. The soft, feathery applicator holds plenty of product, maybe a bit too much, when you pull it out of the tube and no repeated pumping of the tube is necessary. The shade name itself is so mysterious and romantic – very true to the actual shade!
My experience with LA Splash Cosmetics Poison Apple Lip Couture Liquid Lipstick:
Lip Couture defines this as a rich waterproof shade, which leaves a velvety matte finish that never transfers. Well, check, check and check! This is definitely a very rich formulation that leaves a smooth, velvety, matte finish. I could not describe it any better. These guys are so serious about their ‘waterproofing’ of this liquid lipstick. I fell in love with this from the first look, every girl gets excited at the sight of a red lipstick! I’ve swatched this liquid lipstick while taking photos for you guys and after that I washed and scrubbed my hands repeatedly as I was cooking, with dish soap, hand soap, paper towels and a regular towel. And PLENTY of water. This baby stayed completely put, it just wouldn’t budge! I was so surprised at the durability of this product!
I tried this whole process several times and I was very impressed- this product is everything proof! Then I applied this lipstick to my lips and a word of caution- one or two swipes are enough to apply this. It gives a very opaque finish! More swipes make it too matte and dry on your lips which causes them to stiffen and stretch awkwardly. Neither does this bleed. I tried to time it while it dried and it was under 45 seconds. The bad thing about it is that it is so pigmented and fast drying, I actually messed up a little while swatching this on one side of my lip and got it outside of my natural lip area and I couldn’t get that stain off even though I tried to correct it within a few seconds. So work fast or you have to remove it all and start all over again.
Now coming to the removal of this product, which is very difficult. I tried to remove this initially with Jojoba oil, which is what I use for all my liquid lipsticks but it didn’t come off at all. Then I tried my Mary Kay makeup remover. A little progress ensued. All in all I needed 3 cotton pads; a lot of makeup remover and my Clinique face wash to remove this product. Even then I had some pigmentation left behind! I then researched online and found out that the company sells a specific Shea Butter remover for this lipstick. They also have this claim attached but I found this to be false as neither oil nor cleanser removed mine!
This is however a beautiful deep blue-toned red. Almost like a reddish maroon, which is true to the color the company website shows online. The pigmentation and stay power is so intense; I bet this would stay on for days if you do not remove it! I also love that there are no funky smells to this as some liquid lipsticks do. This also does not aggravate or flake my dry lips.
Pros of LA Splash Cosmetics Poison Apple Lip Couture Liquid Lipstick:
- Beautiful colour
- Deep pigmentation
- Waterproof, food proof, drinks proof, kiss proof
- Need only one swipe to apply
Cons of LA Splash Cosmetics Poison Apple Lip Couture Liquid Lipstick:
- Very difficult to remove, need to buy a special remover from the company that is formulated to remove it.
- It contains PARABENS
Would I repurchase or recommend LA Splash Cosmetics Poison Apple Lip Couture Liquid Lipstick?
Sadly, I would not repurchase or recommend this in any color due to the fact that it contains parabens. This product is absolutely fantastic except for this one flaw. This shade has actually been my perfect red lip, dare I say even better than my MAC Ruby Woo and if they changed the formulation I would buy more colors and highly recommend it.
IMBB Rating: 2/5 🙁
(I would have given it a 5/5 if it wasn’t for the parabens!)
