Lakme 9 to 5 Crease-less Lip Balm in Rose Affair
Have you ever had the mad urge to just bang your head against a wall, out of frustration and exasperation for a product?? I am damn sure you must have experienced it countless times. As for me, today, I am going to tell you about the product, which has not only cost me my precious pocket money, but has now frustrated me beyond the level of exasperation. I think Lakme has lost it, completely, with this new launch, and I had lost it completely, when I placed the order for two shades of these, and not only that, convinced my poor sister to do that too, in two other different shades. For the first time, my decision in case of cosmetics is going to let her down, badly. And I am sitting here, fuming away with these words on the word file of my laptop.
I am talking about, none other than the newly launched 9 to 5 lip balms, one of which, Ginger Suit, I have already reviewed. Lakme is one of my favorite brands. In fact, you can say, it is one of those brands to whom I have some kind of brand loyalty, which is not only because of the fact that it is an Indian brand which is no less, and in fact better, than many non-Indian brands, but also because Lakme has, till date not let me down, if you ignore one or two cases, which I don’t even remember. So when you have a product in your hand, which you just blindly purchased due that blind loyalty towards your favorite brand, you feel duped when it turns out to be a dud even after your repeated attempts to make it work.
Enough ranting, I cannot help it guys, I was literally in tears after using this product. Anyway, let’s move on with the review of this yet another shade of the new launch from Lakme, 9 to 5 crease less lip balm, in the shade Rose Affair. See, such a beautiful name too, like the poisonous apple of Snow White.
PACKAGING, PRICE, DESCRIPTION, INGREDIENTS
As I have already told you earlier, the outer packaging is exactly like the 9 to 5 lipsticks, the same peach rectangular carton, encasing the product inside. The actual product is cute too, you will love the packaging (at least there should be something to love about it). Appearances can be very deceptive, that’s what this product has probably taught me.
It is available at a price of Rs. 400/- (pricey!!) for a quantity of 7 ml.
Description: Get soft and supple lips with this lip balm from Lakme. A handbag essential for hot summer days, protects your lips all day long.
Lakme 9 to 5 crease-less lip balm’s ultra creamy texture glides smoothly on your lips, covering the creases. SPF 15, vitamin E, olive oil and jojoba oil keep them nourished and healthy.
No ingredient list is given or mentioned, neither on the outer packaging, nor inside.
My Experience with Lakme 9 To 5 Crease-less Lip Balm in Rose Affair
The shade which I have got here is named “Rose Affair”. It is a pale pink shade, which again is going to wash out many skin tones. Only fair tones can carry it. Medium tones can also carry it with dark eye makeup, however I would suggest using it as a gloss over a slightly darker shade of lipstick, or you may end up looking too washed out.
If you had read my previous review of the Ginger Suit shade, you might have remembered me saying that I thought it to be the darkest shade. Well, after trying Rose Affair, I may as well say that Ginger Suit is indeed darker. Also, you can carry Ginger Suit with good makeup looks if you try a bit, whereas, with this shade, Rose Affair, it is almost impossible to carry it. And come on, if I had to use it just as a white washing lip balm at night, why would I spend 400 bucks on it?? Also, since it contains SPF, that means it is meant to be worn out in the sun. What do you expect Lakme? That I should go out looking like a baboon with white lips?? I mean what exactly is this shade?
As a balm, however, this one works perfectly. It soothes lips and smoothens them out almost immediately, just a minute given to settle. So, you can say that it preps up your lips really well before you put up long lasting lippies, as they are generally very drying in texture. This lip balm is non sticky and is just absorbed into your lips giving it comfort and nourishment. The best part? Even if you wipe it away after 2-3 minutes of application, your lips will retain the softness. It can also be used as a gloss over a peachy-pink or nude-pink lipstick. So as a lip balm and lip gloss, this one works perfectly.
Pros of Lakme 9 to 5 Crease-less Lip Balm in Rose Affair:
• Excellent Lip Balm which instantly smoothens and comforts
• Contains SPF 15 and protects
• Keeps lips soft and moisturized for a long time
• Works well as a lip gloss over peach and nude lip colours
• Instantly soothes lips, settles down in a minute to treat those dry creases
• Preps up lips well for lipstick application.
Cons of Lakme 9 to 5 Crease-less Lip Balm in Rose Affair:
• The shades are horrendous. None is going to work for most of the Indian tones, except for our fairer counterparts. These cannot be worn individually.
• No pretty, wearable tint. Just white washing kind of shades, contrary to the claims made by Lakme.
• Pigmented lips, slight or more, stay away. Far away. I have made the mistake, please don’t repeat.
• Price. At a price of 400, I expected much more from Lakme. Just a lip balm at 400??
MY RATING & RECOMMENDATION
I rate the Lakme 9 to 5 crease-less lip balm-Rose Affair 2/5. This shade is very bad. Ginger Suit was still wearable, but this is a disaster.
At a price of 400, these shades are not at all working. No matter how good the lip balm is, if you are willing to spend 400, buy L’oreal Balms instead. Those will give you pretty tints and long lasting coverage along with moisturization , only without SPF. Skip These.
