Lakme 9 to 5 Creme Compact Vs Colorbar Triple Act Compact

What the company claims

Lakme

Lakme 9 to 5 Creme Compact
A crème-to-powder finish formula make-up compact that glides on silky smooth and blends effortlessly for an impeccable finished look that lasts the entire day

Colorbar

This 3 in 1 concealer, foundation and compact is a one-step makeup. The Triple Act Compact Powder reduces spots and blemishes, gives a glowing complexion and a smooth and oil-free finish. Containing sunscreen, it protects the skin and gives it a fresh look. Triple Act Compact Powder is available seven shades – Neutral, Sand, Dusk, Marble, Fawn, Bisque and Walnut

Packaging
Both are packed in double compartment round cases with mirrors. Lakme is in 9 to 5 signature colour of peach while the Colorbar is silver. However, the colorbar one scores over lakme for two reasons-

  • Its snap lock is sturdier than lakme so less chance of accidental opening in your bag
  • 2 The top compartment in colorbar holds the sponge whereas it’s the product in lakme. Accidental opening will contaminate your product in the latter

Colorbar definitely scores over Lakme on this too!

Finish & Application

lakme vs colorbar compact

Lakme
The finish is very rich and creamy. It does not go sheer unlike what Lakme claims on their website, but provides a medium coverage that is buildable to heavy. The sponge is good and provides an even application. I have used up two cases of this and have never found an uneven on streaky application. However, this is not a concealer.

You cannot use it to hide blemishes, patches or cover the under eye area. It provides a matte finish that lasts up to 6 hours in winter in around 4 in summer on my skin which is combination type. I have a very oily T zone. It is a bit drying and needs to be used over a well moisturized face else it accentuates the dry areas.

lakme vs colorbar compact

Colorbar
The finish is creamy but not as much as Lakme. It is a heavier product and the texture is quite drying. It provides a heavy coverage straight away if used with the dry sponge. Also, the application is uneven and streaky. I had to wet the sponge for a better application. A wet sponge toned down the application as well and I could get a medium coverage. Even though this is a concealer, it is not very easy to blend due to its drying texture. That means you can use it for blemishes and patches on face but not in the under eye area. It can be used as an eye primer too. It did enhance the pigmentation of some of my drugstore eye shadows but I have not tested it against a proper primer.

The finish is velvety matte and lasts the whole day in winter. I just got the product so have not used it in summer. I might not even do so because of its heavy finish. Lastly, this compact is very very drying. About ten times more than the Lakme one!! Even on a just moisturized face, it caused dryness at the temple and around the nose. So, I wet my face, apply the crème and then add moisturizer over it. Finally, I blend. After all this, I get an even flawless matte finish. The end result is quite nice but it cannot be use as an on-the-go product. Touch ups are difficult. You can just not duck into a corner and powder your nose with this (Unless your nose fell into a pot of oil and you want to soak it all up!)

I’d give this round to Lakme. For me, the whole purpose of a compact is to be able to do touch ups in a jiffy. Like heading to an important meeting or just before you climb up the stage to wish the bride and groom during a wedding or having arrived from a walk during your mid afternoon break. If I am going to do the whole, water, compact and moisturizer bit again, it’s no use. Oily skinned girls might favor the colorbar one in this respect but it just does not work for me. I had to buy a regular lakme compact for carrying around in my bag 🙁
The Final Verdict
If you are oily skinned or have to travel with a light baggage or cannot find a shade match in Lakme, go for the colorbar. If you combination skinned, need a quick product while rushing to work or college or for quick touch ups during the day, go for Lakme. If you are dry skinned, find another product. Both these will accentuate the dryness.

great comparision……… :waytogo: :waytogo: :waytogo: :waytogo: :waytogo:

    1. Thanks Jinal…. Mumbai mein toh I never wore anything on my face… they shud make sppecial products for humid places like Mumbai and Chennai… na?

colourbar wud be good for oily skin….

  5. i have d colorbar one n i love it… its grt.. dnt find it dat over drying once i use it on top of my daily moisturiser…!! i like d yellow tone it has n how well it suits my skin tone…havent tried lakme thou,,,

    1. i too use it on a moist face Noopur, but still causes dryness in some areas…. 🙁 i liked the range of shades colorbar has to offer…. much better than lakme…..

  6. ANks since i have dry skin, I rely on only mac mineralize. have almost stopped using compacts. 9-5 compact totally failed for me. :(( I have used the lakme radiance compact for two years, i used to like it a lot for summers. 😀 😀 Do check out the lotus compact next time, it’s fantastic. I have even gifted it to a lot of people. 😀 😀

Excellent comparison, was very much required. 🙂

    1. Rati …Which is better for oily skin…Lotus or Revlon…ne idea ….NIds says Revlon is very good but she has not used Lotus.. ?:)

      1. Sonam i hav used both, lotus n revlon..both are equally good i feel..well i prefer lotus bcoz of the natural ingredients in it, n as Rati said it is butterly smooth!!

    2. Dry skin na? The SA shud not have sold you this…. whats good abt the lotus one? have u reviewed it here? i just got an oriflame one last week… wont need a new compact for a while now… oh i got lipice btw…. it gives me a magenta colour!!!!

      1. oh wow!! lip ice is kinda fun to use..you’ll see different shades of pink on everyone.. just gave a link above to lotus compact… i know the lakme one was a SAs fault only. I had no idea about makeup that time. :((

        1. too much fun…. got it last evening only… and have been slathering it on ever since…. oh and i also got whiteglow scrub and masque…. both are pretty nice…. brightened up the face…. i have never known a product to work when i am PMSing so this deserves brownie points!!!

  7. oh btw i forgot to tell you guys. that ambika pillai nail paint no..orange one. It chipped badly after 2 days only :weep: :weep: :weep: :weep:

  8. oh! I used to love the lakme sponge.. you know it kept it even after i threw away the compact. :happydance: :happydance: :happydance: :happydance: :happydance:

  9. so nicely compared !! nice article !!! 🙂

m scared of using cream compacts .. hehehehe

HEY RATI ..DID YA GET MY MAIL ???

    1. they are not so bad really…. especially if you want some coverage but don’t wanna use foundation and powder…. but in extreme humidity, it tends to melt…. 🙁

  10. I am using this lakme one…but somehow it goes away with sweat… :teeth: :teeth:
n it make my skin oily also… :sarcasm: :sarcasm:

  11. HI Anks !!! nice review..but my experience with the Lakme creme compact has been horrible :(( It refuses to glide on the skin and blend evenly-it jus gives an oily sheen and also doesnt stay long :(( It leaves behind patches and the coverage I felt is even not as good as powder compacts..dunno maybe it dint suit my skin-which is combination type :starving:

    1. Oh… how did you apply it Anuradha? Did you use a wet sponge? This is not like a compact. I wud call it a creme foundation…. but i can totally imagine patchy and streaky application. That happened to me with Colorbar and Noopur loves it!

  12. what a review..!!! :duel: :duel: :duel: :duel: :duel: :duel:
ill go with colorbar as i have oily skin,,infact ryt now also im using colourbar but a diffrnt one and quite love … it makes my skin look fresh and is a great pick me up for my skin :jiggy1: :jiggy1:

  13. I had the same lakme compact- It didnt glide on my skin and gave a patchy look and i had to literally scrub it on the face but still nuthing :((

  14. Nice comparison Anks! Pls review the Oriflame one soon too. These are creme foundations right? @Rati- Is the Lotus one also similar in consistency to these reviewed here or it is a powder compact? I am using Chambor silver shadow compact and I love it! It is the powder kind and very smooth and light on the skin- stays on for a few hours even in Mumbai humidity and traveling. O:)

    1. Thanks Ankita…. The oriflame one is poweder and i guess so is lotus. I had seen the lotus one on a counter. I have been using Oriflame for 4 days now and liking it… I think it will be a summer staple. Will review after a few weeks of use…
