Lakme 9 To 5 Hydrating Super Sunscreen SPF 50 Review

Hi Beauties,

India is an equatorial nation. Anywhere you live in India, you are bound to face the harmful rays of the sun. I cannot even think of going out of the house during day time, without applying a sunscreen, be it summer or winters. Our desi cosmetic company Lakme has come up with a new product for these summers. It is called 9 to 5 super sunscreen – available in two variants. They have a hydrating one for normal to dry skin and mattifying one for combination to oily skin.  I tried out both the variants on my arms, and liked the hydrating one better. The hydrating one had a bit of a thinner consistency than the mattifying one. Since it has a very good SPF, I immediately bought it.

My Experience with Lakme 9 To 5 Hydrating Super Sunscreen SPF 50:

Firstly, I love the fact that Lakme has come up with two different variants of the sunscreen for dry and oily skin types. Also, the sun protection provided is very good.  The sunscreen comes in a rose gold color box, within which lies a plastic sunscreen bottle in the same color. The cap is golden in color, metallic and shuts very securely. Overall, the packaging does have a luxurious feel to it and is very travel friendly.  The bottle has a pump dispenser which keeps the product very hygienic.  One press of the pump dispenses enough product for my face. The product is whitish in color, and neither is too thick nor too thin. It has a mild citrusy fragrance and is extremely lightweight. I think Lakme has kept the consistency of this product absolutely perfect.

I usually apply one pump of the product on my face. A little more will cover the neck as well. Excess product makes my skin a bit sticky. It spreads and blends easily on my face. It does not leave any whitish cast on the face at all. My face does appear shiny, but the shine settles down within 2-3 minutes leaving a very soft, satiny finish. My dry areas are not accentuated at all. It gives a good base for my foundation and does not oxidize or melt at all in the sun. This sunscreen does protect me very well from the sun, and has prevented tanning on exposed body areas.

Lakmé claims that this is a 9 to 5 sunscreen. So, does that mean that it will protect you for 8 hours without reapplication? The answer is no, absolutely not. As with any other sunscreen, you will have to reapply this very 3-4 hourly if you are going to be out in the sun.

Would I Repurchase Lakme 9 To 5 Hydrating Super Sunscreen SPF 50?

Lakmé has really come out with a winner this time. The packaging is sturdy as well as luxurious. The sun protection factor is very good. Two different variants are present for different skin types.  It has a very hygienic pump dispenser.  I just wish they had priced it a bit less, though for the quality of product and quality of packaging, the price may just be justified.

  1. sounds good for more normal to combination skin types. Does it not cause sweating or wash of with sweating? *secret*
Lakme is going overboard with prices without improving quality. Why cant they mention regarding if it is water resistant and sweat proof or not when they price it at Rs.500!!! *spank* *spank*

    Btw, nice review dear *clap*

  2. Nice review Arpita *haan ji* , is it a water-proof or sweat resistant *waiting* and is it that hydrating that you can skip your moisturizer??

Nevertheless, it looks really good!! will give it a try *pigtail*

  3. Thanks amulya….i have tried it in summer only… And i find it is hydrating enough for my skin now without an additinal layer of moisturiser…. Also it is water proof and would need a good cleanser to take it off….
