Lakme Burgundy Business 9 to 5 Lip Color Review

As I promised, I am back with yet another lipstick from my recent IMBB sponsored haul and this time it’s from the very familiar Lakme 9 to 5 Matte Lip Color range. These lipsticks have been around for quite some time now and they have added a few new shades to the already existing collection. The shade “Burgundy Business” is a new addition too I believe, so let’s check it out a bit more closely.

My Experience with Lakme Burgundy Business 9 to 5 Lip Color:

As we all know by now, the lipstick comes in a very pretty and sleek rose gold case which click locks tightly. The packaging is super convenient to travel with and is great for touch ups on the go. There’s no shade indicator but a sticker having the shade name and number attached to the base. I really wish Lakme did something about the shade indication bit as for hoarders like me, it becomes really difficult to find a particular shade when in a rush. There is an outer carton for the lipstick as well which holds the various details like the date of manufacture, expiry, etc. Overall, I find the packaging quite pretty and functional with the only con being the lack of proper shade indicator.

The lipstick has a really mild sweet fragrance which would not bother anyone with a sensitive nose and it has a little sweet taste to it as well which I felt when I licked my lips accidentally.

Coming to the shade “Burgundy Business,” I would start by saying that I am quite confused about this one. Honestly, going by the name, I thought it to be an out and out matte burgundy shade and the swatches online suggested the same as well. However, when I finally received my parcel, I was pretty disappointed to see that it wasn’t anything close to burgundy. Well, it’s a plummy pink shade with a lot of silver shimmer in it. I have somewhat started liking the shade now as I do not have any other option but to use it, but the lack of shimmers would have really made me happier. I mean it could have been such a pretty everyday pink for dusky skin tones had the shimmer not existed and I fail to understand as to why Lakme keeps ruining a lot of great shades by adding these so not wanted shimmers. Hope you’re listening this time Lakme… ‘We HATE shimmers in our pretty lipsticks… period !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In terms of pigmentation, this lipstick is pretty awesome and gives full coverage in two swipes and I would suggest against layering it further as it could end up looking cakey.  Texture wise, I find these to be one of the most comfortable matte lipsticks around as they glide on the lips really softly and set to a matte finish in a few seconds. There’s no tugging or pulling on the lips during application and it doesn’t stick to the dry areas of the lips.

Coming to the staying power, I would say that the 9 to 5 claim is quite far-fetched, but it does stay for a good 4-5 hours post application and survives light snacks and drinks quite efficiently, but disappears completely post a full meal and reapplication becomes a must. Once it sets, it hardly transfers much and this is a really big plus for me.

Summing up the pros and cons:

Pros of Lakme Burgundy Business 9 to 5 Lip Color:

• Affordable.
• Easily available.
• Really pretty packaging.
• Isn’t really drying on the lips in spite of being a matte lipstick.
• Good staying power.
• Good pigmentation.
• Doesn’t transfer much post after it sets.

Cons of Lakme Burgundy Business 9 to 5 Lip Color:

• Misleading shade name.
• Really wish they had thrown in some sort of shade indicators.
• Addition of shimmers is a major turn off.
• 9 to 5 claim is a bit too far fetched.

Overall, this range is pretty amazing if you are on the lookout for affordable non-drying matte lipsticks and I totally recommend this range to everyone. I would repurchase more shades from this range, but definitely only the non-shimmery ones.
