Today, I am going to review a lipstick which has been there for ages, I mean not the lipstick exactly, but we have fond memories of our mothers using it when we used to be little kids, so Lakme brand as such needs no introduction and is not new to us. I shall be revieiwing one of the shades from the Lakme Enrich range.
Product Being Reviewed:
Lakme Enrich Lipistick Shade 420. Deep conditioning lip color enriched with Vitamin E for softer and smoother lips. Contains strawberry, grape seed, and peach extracts to keep lips nourished and soft. Made in India. Enriched with sunscreens, vitamins and the goodness of olives, your lips will have a story to share.
INR 225 for 4 gms of product. The packaging in simple words is plain boring. It comes in the usual maroon rectangular lipstick case with a golden band in between. Apart from being boring, it also loses on the practicality part, I mean how do they expect us to remember the shades with the numbers or the names when Indian ladies have the habit of hoarding lipsticks, it is very difficult to find the particular shade from your vanity case.
My Take on Lakme Enrich Lipstick in Shade 420:
Shade: It is a brick shade to be specific, falls in the family of maroons and browns. The shade is not suitable for day wear as it might be a bit loud, but can be easily carried off during evenings and nights.
Texture/Finish: It is a matte lipstick which does not have a creamy feel to it, unlike the Chambor Powder Matte lipsticks, which are matte yet so creamy. My lips feel dry after one hour of application and I have to use a lip balm underneath. It does not settle into fine lines, but proper exfoliation is required owing to its matte texture which sometimes accentuates the lines. Not a big fan of texture or the finish!
Fragrance: Like all Lakme lipsticks, it has the usual medicated smell, some of you might find it okay or pleasant, but I personally find it medicated and that is the reason I stay away from the Lakme brand. I think its high time people made lipsticks without any fragrance, for fragrance, we have perfumes anyway 🙂
Staying Power/Pigmentation: It is quite a pigmented shade, still the staying power is not good. The lipstick can’t survive a full meal, it fades away completely in two hours time and the worst part is that it fades away unevenly.
Summarising the pros and cons:
Pros of Lakme Enrich Lipstick in Shade 420:
- Reasonably priced.
- Has a long shelf life of 3 years (which actually might be a con considering the chemicals added to preserve it for so long).
- Does not settle into fine lines.
- Nicely pigmented.
Cons of Lakme Enrich Lipstick in Shade 420:
- Staying power is not good and it fades unevenly.
- Has a wierd smell, which sensitive noses would not like.
- Makes the lips dry after some time.
- Packaging could be worked upon.
Would I Repurchase/Do I Recommend Lakme Enrich Lipstick in Shade 420?
No, not really and in the matte category my recent love is the Chambor Powder Matte lipsticks. Believe me, they are awesome with their creamy matte finish.
