Lakme Jewel Eyeliner Review, Comparison Swatches

Lakme Jewel Eyeliner and Lakme Nine to Five Eyeliner Swatches, Review, Comparison

Colored and sparkly eyeliners always make a statement that is different from regular and commonplace. Even if one plays down on lips or cheeks-a dash of shining eyeliner-in some shade complementing the eye color instantly pumps up the glam quotient. The first sparkly liners I bought were the AVON Glimmersticks diamonds retractable liners in Black Ice and Twilight Blue. Next was the Tips and Toes sparkling pencil liner. Both these products impressed me so much that I decided to check out the Lakme Jewel liner in Onyx and Lakme Nine to Five Intense Shine eyeliner in Smokey Gray. I chose to check out two old eye products instead of the new Lakme Fantasy Shimmer liners which are much higher in sparkle quotient- because jazzy stuffs like that really remain idle in my drawer for a long time-and I wanted to check out something that can be used for common and everyday purposes.

As far as I remember, this liner was introduced long back-as a part of the Bridal Sutra Collection. I really like the classy packaging of this eyeliner. The liner’s wand and brush has a good construction to line the lids easily. The rubber neck of the bottle prevents clogging around that part and quick drying of the liquid inside. The liner is thick in texture. The shimmer is not very visible as glitter but the liner on drying on the lids gives a nice metallic sheen. I liked it particularly because it is not over the top but is different from the regular boring black liner. The shade is not pitch black-its metallic/slate-ish black. The pigmentation is good and in 2 swipes imparts full color. It takes about 3-4 minutes to dry completely-after which the sheen is quite visible. The liner is fully smudge-proof but not water-proof. This is a disappointment as two swipes of a wet handkerchief can literally obliterate this liner.

Pros:

1) Good pigmentation and nice visible sheen obtained in one or two swipe.
2) This color can be worn everyday and safely to workplace
2) Smudge-proof. On hard rubbing-neither the color budges, nor the sheen
3) The wand is pretty nice and helps in easy lining and in making wings.

Cons:

1) Not waterproof. Wipes out easily on the dab of a wet cotton
2) The color is vibrant metallic black but if one is expecting a shimmer packed performance-I guess they won’t be very happy.
3) It stung my eyelids for a while

Lakme Nine to Five Intense Shine Eyeliner in Smokey Gray: Price Rs. 230

The Nine to Five Intense Shine Eyeliner-despite of its claim of providing “intense shine” settles on my eyelids with only a slight sheen. Although the swatch on the back of my palm turns out to be a gorgeous shade of midnight-bluish black, the color-which is claimed to be smokey gray-appears as somewhat slate-blue on my lids. This I absolutely dislike since It neither flatters my complexion nor the color of my eyes. Ironically, this eyeliner is both smudge proof as well as water proof. Maybe I tried the wrong shade-I think the “black” shade of this liner shade should have been the “right-o” thing for me. 🙁

Pros:
1) It is water proof and smudge proof.
2) The wand is very good in easy lining
3) Did not sting my lids

Cons: The liner is not “intensely” shiny-It is just like any regular liquid liner. Also the shade is far from smokey gray and comes out as grayish light blue . 🙁

  1. Anuradha both of these look bluish? are they bluish or there is some error with lighting? I am loving the swatches, it reasonable too! :woot:  :yahoo: :thanks:

    1. The jewel liner comes out as shiny but not tarry black-its hard to describe a bit-but I found very slight tinges of gray-blue in this onyx shade-and the 9-to 5 one is still more peculiar!!-It shows up as 80-20 black blue on back of hand-on lids it looks like slate blue :zombiekiller: :zombiekiller: :zombiekiller:

  2. both shades r gr8 anu :yahoo: … but y it is called grey, the 9to5 1… thts blue as far as i can c n judge :specs: … price is reasonable tooo for tht 1… :haanji:
welll I prefer waterproof eye makeup things so the jewel liner is a no no for me… :nono:

    1. Yup-like its okay for cooler seasons-the onyx one-its retains its shine even on hard rubbing-but wipes out so easily :weep: :weep: and seriously-the 9-to-5 one comes out as slate blue-a hint that is neither in its name nor on its swatch -some may find this nice-but I saw that I can hardly detect the liner on my lids :pissedoff: :pissedoff: :pissedoff: :pissedoff:

  3. u know anuradha, i have used both of these. but in my case its the opposite- the nine to five used to sting but the jewel never did. however, the jewel used to flake off when it was windy n my eyes used to get watery. sometimes it used to remain on the lid while the winged out part from my wing used to flake off  yeah but both were easy to remove

    1. ohh no-I have the total ulta prob- :suspense: :suspense: like the liner doesnt flake-neither of them-but the onyx sorta stings-like my eyes water after some time of using that is :weep: :weep:

    1. ohh-thats nice-how does it turn up on the lids?? on mine it comes out like some slate blue-which I don like at all :yuck: :yuck: :yuck:

        1. I think there may be some sorta dermatological thingy-like I have used from sringar kajal to elle 18 liners to revlon-none has stung-but first time I found that my eyes are getting sorta watery on using the onyx liner-with 9 to 5 it was okay ?:) ?:)

  4. yeah i ahve used the intense shine liner and it had no shine as such 😐 😐 😐 😐 why such a contradictory name. :zombiekiller:

I do like the look jewel eyeliner though. 🙂

    1. yep-at least I like the jewel liner better the “intense shine” one-  but actually now sooo many pretty pretty shimmer liners are available-(revlon colorstay ones are just n just stunning!!!) that the lakme jewel liner falls somewhat short-although I think these were the first shimmer liners to arrive in our market :worship: :worship: :worship:

        1. yaa-me saw your review on them here-they are :inlove: :inlove:   -even the new lakme fantasy collection shimmer liners (the Lakme SA kept on insisting me to get them :D) are shimmer packed and have gorgeous shades-the prices are much higher tho 😐 😐 😐

    1. yaaa-I will try the lakme nine to 5 liner in total black-I especially like the wand and its water resistance :rose: :rose: :rose:

    1. thankuu-if you really like shimmer liners I say you check out colorbar or revlon-amazing shades they have :woot: :woot: :woot: :rose: :rose: :rose:

  5. Very nice review Anuradha,
After reading Neha’s post on metallic eyeliner and now this one by you, I am soooo tempted to try one out.
