Hi ladies. As much as we love our cosmetics and application of make-up, the removal of make-up is a very important step we should and MUST follow religiously. If make-up is not removed properly, it can lead to clogged pores which, in turn, can lead to break-outs and uneven skin tone and also, cell renewal of our skin cannot take place properly while we are asleep if the pores are clogged and the skin has to ‘sleep’ with all the chemicals and parabens that our make-up contains. Hence, please give yourself enough time to remove your makeup. I once read that if we spend 15 minutes or even 30 minutes to put on our makeup, we should spend that much time to remove it. However, makeup removal need not take half an hour or even fifteen minutes to do, with this new and innovative product from Lakme!
Product description from Lakme :
This twin-phase makeup remover has a unique formulation that gently but thoroughly removes all kind of makeup, including long-wearing makeup.
Directions to use :
1. Shake well.
2. Saturate cotton pad and gently sweep over closed eyelids, lip and face area.
3. Rinse with cool water.
Cap tightly after use to prevent evaporation.
Caution: Rinse with cool water if product enters eyes.
Ingredients:
Aqua, Cyclomethicone, Isohexadecane, d-Panthenol, Butylene Glycol, Glycerin, Caprylyl / Capryl Glucoside, dimethicone, sodium Chloride, disodium EdTa, dipotassium Hydrogen Phosphate, fragrance, Phenoxyethanol, dmdm Hydantoin (and) Iodopropynyl Butylcarbamate.
This makeup remover comes in an open cellophane paper packing. It is a light pink plastic bottle with a light pink plastic cap and comes in spray form. The dual phases can be seen clearly, and they merge into a bubbly translucent liquid when shaken. The smell reminded me of Lakme’s 9 to 5 crème foundation compact, which I guess is typical of their 9 to 5 range.
Now let’s put it to the test.
Eye products used (all waterproof and long-lasting) :
Revlon Colorstay One-stroke defining eyeliner in Glazed Green, Revlon Colorstay Eyeliner in Black, Lakme 9 to 5 defining Eyeliner 04 sapphire, Chambor dazzle Transferproof smooth eye pencil 105 Purple dazzle and MAC fluidline in ‘shade’.
Take 2 or 3 cotton wool pads (I needed to use only 2 for removing the eye and lip makeup) :
All the waterproof and long-lasting eye makeup was removed in exactly 2 swipes!

What I like about Lakme Nine to five dual-action Makeup Remover :
- The best thing about this remover is its tremendous ability to remove all traces of waterproof, transfer-resistant makeup in 1 or 2 (maximum 3) swipes.
- It’s hygienic to use as it dispenses in a spray form.
- No need for pulling and tugging at delicate areas like eyes and lips to remove long-lasting makeup; the makeup comes off almost effortlessly.
- It really reduces makeup removal time.
What I don’t like about Lakme Nine to five dual-action Makeup Remover :
- Does not come in proper sealed packaging.
- An additional makeup removal step of rinsing the face is required.
- Leaves a slippery feeling on the face after rinsing, but the face does not feel oily or greasy once it dries.
- As usual, even though the product has already been launched, Lakme is yet to update their website.
For quality, I would give this a :-*:-*:-*:-*:-* rating. I think this is a much-needed product in the Indian market.
I would most certainly re-purchase Lakme makeup remover, as I’m loving it a lot.

Ohh pshawwww – I am a firm believer in using baby oil/coconut oil/ olive oil or Vaseline to remove make up – its gentle on the skin, no harsh chemicals and followed by a good cleanser means ur face is squeaky clean.
Added benefit is of course that its infinitely cheaper than buying make up remover.
Moreover am very scared of putting those chemicals on my eyes to remove eye make-up (even though I know its all tested and very safe).

Don’t use baby oil J! It’s all aging mineral oil and you’ll end up getting premature crows feet!
I use Vaseline when I run out of my Clinique makeup remover…I want to try Olive Oil since people say it makes lashes grow better…is that true?

I bought it for around 18 bucks…it’s awesome…gets rid of EVERYTHING, even the heaviest eye makeup without any effort. The one I use is called Take The Day Off, I haven’t tried the others.

Devie – Dont worry, I use pure coconut oil for my make-up removal (the edible kinds). I said baby oil coz its what Ive seen my mum and other actors use on the shoot – but is only Johnsons Baby oil. Will check out the mineral oil thingy and let her know if you say it causes aging 😯 :-))
But yeah my own make-up removal regimen is cococnut oil followed by Cetaphil :laugh:

Hi Janhavi. You won’t believe it, but I’ve never tried any kind of oil to remove my makeup. Before I got this, I was using L’oreal makeup remover and since it’s now been discontinued here, I was using toner to remove my makeup and, thereby, doing a lot of pulling and tugging around my eyes, until I bought this, and I’m really liking its efficiency.
You know Sabrina, I totally understand where you are coming from. But one of these days do try another experiment, try removing your make-up with a pure oil (like coconut or olive oil – I wont say baby oil anymore cause Devie says its causes aging 😯 ). As in pour a reasonable amount on your had, gently rub over your face or wherever you have make-up, wipe away with a clean tissue or cotton pad. Follow it up with a cleanser. An added benefit of using the oil is that it leaves your skin super soft :laugh:
Just try it once – if you no like then Lakme Cleanser Zindabad 😛 😛 😛 😛 😛

Also do not worry about having oily skin – trust me I could fry a samosa on my face – but regular use of coconut actually helped my skin get less oily – using oils on your skin helps it instead of drying your skin out with chemicals which sometimes makes it even worse – skin is so weird ! :-/ :-/ :-/ :-/ :-/
OK, I’ll try coconut oil. Olive oil may be too thick. Well, at least us oily skin ladies are lucky in one way – the oily layer on the skin keeps wrinkles at bay – or so the experts say.

A good teal eye pencil would be available from Revlon (Colorstay One Stroke Defining Eyeliner in Totally Turquoise, or Lakme Glide On Eye Color in Aqua Green (a blue-green colour) or Chambor Dazzle Transferproof Smooth Eye Pencil in Teal Dazzle. These are all available at the respective counters at Shoppers Stop, Pantaloons or Westside.

Great review…..I am using the Oriflame remover which is also very good. One related question….do u girls use the normal cotton balls available in stores to remove make-up? I soemtimes find them pretty rough….

Hi Monika, I find the local cotton balls very rough too. You can try the cotton rounds from The Body Shop, they are very soft and nice. I am using some cotton wool pads which I asked someone to get me (a whole lot of packets) from Bangkok.
Nice one Sabrina….not a fan of Lakme products but this sounds like a nice one to have…mainly emergencies or when you out….else Olive oil, coconut oil zindabad 😉 😛
