Lakme Peacock Eye Quartet, Maybelline Time for Wine Review

Eye Shadow Quads: Lakme and Maybelline

After the first part, where I wrote about Revlon Colorstay 12 Hour shadow quad and Lakme eye quartet in Desert Rose, I would like to write about two more of my favorite eyeshadow quads here-from Lakme and Maybelline.

Lakme Eye Quartet : Peacock: Price Rs 425:

This is rightly named and the most colorful quad in Lakme collection. The selection of eye shadows can make anyone drool over them. This is fit for any party/festival to impart eyes the glam look. However, this eye quad is not typically divided into lid-crease-brow bone shades. This is a quad to totally experiment with freely. That’s what I love most about this quad.

The top left shadow is a warm metallic bronze color can be used on either brow bone or lids-I even use it sometimes as a bronzer on cheek:). The top right color is a dark shimmery purple-for crease or corner but it looks good on lids too. The bottom two colors are nice but form the main drawbacks of this palette. The blue color on bottom left although looks very gorgeous but has a bad color payoff-on applying without a primer this color does not build up at all-after 4-5 swatches it looks a blue that remembers me of RIN detergent soap :(. The shimmer is not at all visible and even the application is difficult and becomes non- uniform. It’s also difficult to blend evenly. Same with the green color-had it looked on eyes the way it looks on the palette-it could have been a sole winner-but sigh-at first it comes out to be a pale greenish shade that needs to be piled on and on to actually get the bright green color. I tried the green one with a primer-and it got overdone and I looked like a dragonfly:( It’s difficult to get the subtle shimmery green eye shadow –either it gets splotchy else too deeply pigmented. The staying power is not good-only stays for 3-4 hours depending on weather or skin type.
Since better artists than me can perhaps work out the colors better -I give this eye shadow quad :-*:-*:-* just because of the color variety it offers. Here are two looks with the Lakme eye quartet in Peacock (oops! Forgot the mascara :D).

Maybelline Expert Wear Eyeshadow Quad : Time for Wine: Price Rs: 240

Next and last in my favorite eye quad saga comes everyone’s favourite eyeshadow: Maybelline Expert Wear Eye shadow. My quad is named Time For Wine. This is an absolutely everyday office/formal wearable shadow and the price is lesser than any other brand for an eye-quad. The eye quad combination is very well chosen and even a few schemes are given at the back of the pack, telling how to combine the colors to get different looks.

The top left eye shadow is the leftmost color on my fist-it’s a pale cream color meant for lids. The bottom left color is 2nd from the left on my fist-a pearly pink color with light shimmer meant for brow bones. The 3rd color is one on the top right-a deep dark purple meant for crease-I often use it on the lids too to get a quick purplish smoky eye look (no it doesn’t look like someone has given me a black eye 🙁 The last eye shadow on fist is the bottom right color-a nice light purple with golden shimmer. This too is for crease and corner during daytime but again for a party I wear it on lids-no harm done. Now the color schemes that Maybelline states:

  1. Subtle Look: Only top left eye shadow on lid
  2. Casual Look: Top left on Lid and top right on crease
  3. Classic Look: Top left on Lid ,top right on crease and bottom left on brow bone
  4. Dramatic look: left on Lid, top right on crease, bottom left on brow bone and bottom right on outer corner. That’s the combination I have sported below 🙂

I have no major complaints with this eye shadow quad-the colors are nice and build well and I can use all them. The staying power is average (see my pic-the lid color has almost faded in about 2 hours). The top and bottom right colors are bit pale and looks almost the same-but for a typical smoky eye look they work fine when I use darker pigments from other quads. The biggest plus point is that you will never go overboard with the colors-they will safely give the desired neutral or classy look every time you use them . 🙂

Overall rating: :-* :-*:-*:-*

    1. I will suggest using Colorbar eye glide in jaded instead of this green color..or even lakme glide on eyecolor in peacock green..I just wear them and smudge them to get the effect..my blue substitute is my Avon glimmersticks diamonds in twilight sparkle 😛 😛
