Lakme Sindoor vs Lotus Herbals Sindoor

Lakme Jewel Sindoor v/s Lotus Herbals Divine Dew Sindoor

I love India for Its culture and traditions. From a very young age, like every other girl, I had this fascination of watching the newly married all dressed up with full-on jewellery, makeup and bright outfits. The chooda & the sindoor are things which an unmarried girl cannot try prior to getting married and thus these always remained at immeasurable heights. So after my marriage, I tell you, I wore my chooda for near about 2 years as firstly I loved it and secondly loved the fact that ladies/girls used to compliment me for that and even asked me the place I bought it from as in Hyderabad, choodas are not that much in fashion. :yahoo: :yahoo:

Same goes for my love for sindoors. It’s a staple in my makeup routine, whether I wear an Indian outfit or western, you can always find me wearing sindoor. I sort of feel incomplete without it. 😛 I have my sindoor box too with the red/maroon powder sindoor but when it comes to the liquid ones then there is nothing better than that for the ease of handle and use.

So I thought of reviewing the two liquid sindoors I own or rather say that compare both of them:
Lakme Jewel Sindoor: A contemporary twist to an age-old tradition, liquid gold, copper and bronze to sweep in an auspicious mark, or to embellish as a tikka and other motifs for face and body art.
Lotus Herbals Divine Dew sindoor: Ordinary sindoors may contain toxic ingredients that can cause damage to your skin through long term usage. Lotus Herbals presents safe Divine Dew herbal sindoor with natural, herbal ingredients and absolutely no toxins. Also, it is available in two shades with an exclusive sponge tip applicator that helps avoid spillage.

Ingredient List: Sorry to say for both its missing. Lotus Herbals claim it to be herbal sindoor but I did not find any proof for the claim made and similar negative results for the Lakme one.

Price: Lakme jewel sindoor cost 99 for 4.5ml while the Lotus one costs 115/- for 8gms. Considering the content offered for the price, I think Lotus sindoor is a better option 😉
Shades: Both offer the same shades of red and maroon. But Lakme one has very fine shimmer in it that makes it a jewel actually while the Lotus Divine dew is a matte sindoor. Well, I prefer the suble shimmer one better. 😛

Top: Lakme jewel sindoor in maroon shade and below: the matte Lotus herbals Divine Dew

Availability: I never found the red shade in Lakme, whenever inquired; they always have the maroon one available. While Lakme counters are easily scattered in the city, one can find a few counters of Lotus herbals cosmetics around. For me, Lakme scores here over Lotus as I can easily find the former in a mall where I prefer more to shop.
Packaging: Both sindoors have a plastic packaging and a sponge tip for application. The size and width of the sponge tip is the same but the slimmer and long cap of Lakme sindoor makes it easier to apply it than the short and fat cap of the Lotus one.

vs

Overall verdict: If you now talk of staying power and texture than yes, Lakme sindoor would definitely score higher than the Lotus Herbals Divine Dew sindoor. I have applied both separately and together too just to check for the results and I came to the conclusion that Lakme one stays pretty longer than its competitor. Even after splashing water on the face again and again in the hot weather, the lakme one does not fade as easily as the Lotus sindoor. It stays on practically the whole day while the Lotus one appears to fade away within 3 hours or so and quickly on getting in contact with water. Both of these do not bleed as they are water resistant but they do fade away slowly.
This is one big quality of the Lakme jewel sindoor for me as once applied I am not worried of it fading away easily. So here Lakme sindoor is a true winner.

Comparison Pros/Cons of both sindoors:

• Packaging of Lakme sindoor is better and more attractive.
• Price and quantity offered of Lotus herbals sindoor makes it a better option out of the two.
• The shimmery texture of Lakme jewel sindoor is more eye-catching than the other. But if someone prefers a true matte shade then go for the Lotus one.
• Availability of both depends as Lotus cosmetics are not easily available in the market while Lakme may have ‘out of stock’ shades.
• Lakme sindoor dries up faster when applied than the lotus one.
• Lasting power of Lakme sindoor is much better than the Lotus divine dew sindoor.
• I find the Lakme one as more water resistant than the Lotus Divine dew.
• Lotus sindoor is claimed to be mercury and lead free while there is absolutely no mention of ingredients for the lakme sindoor.
• I owe the Lakme one from a year now and it had not dried up and look as fresh as new whenever applied. Cannot say much about the Lotus one as I have this from just 3 months. No signs of drying up as of now.
So I would like to individually rate the two as:

Lakme Jewel Sindoor: 4.75/5

Lotus Herbals Divine Dew Sindoor: 4/5

I myself would prefer buying the Lakme one again but if I did not find the red shade in that then there is no harm going back to the Lotus one.

Thanks for reading my review. Hope it would be useful to you. 🙂
