As one of the universally-accepted rules in health and beauty, an oily and shiny face is not a good thing, right? On top of being visually unpleasant, an oily face can leave your skin feeling smothered, or worse – produce breakouts as it provides a good environment for those nasty bacteria. Gah! To give an easy and instant fix, we rely on makeup, specifically face powder or foundation to absorb the face’s excess oil (and also to eliminate the shiny look on our noses and foreheads. Oh the horror!). But that poses another beauty dilemma: making sure that all makeup is removed after your day is over and before you go to bed.
I have tried numerous makeup removers, from moist towelettes to foamy face cleansers, but I have never tried cleansing oil. Maybe I am shying away from it because my subconscious is steering me clear away from putting oil and oily stuff to my face. But I finally mustered enough courage to give it a try and not let my “prejudice” over the word “oil” stop me.
Truth be told, Laneige Perfect Pore Cleansing Oil is the very first cleansing oil that I have ever tried. Although pricey at $39.86 for a 250 mL bottle, I just hoped against all hopes that it will work really well. I had high hopes though because I had a good experience with another Laneige product.
I like the bluish color of the bottle, it looks so high-end and clean as with the pump that goes with it. I truly love that this product is dispensed through a pump as it prevents spillage. And judging from the quality of the pump, I can almost be so sure that this will not give out on me anytime soon.
Reading the product insert, I like the fact that this has natural virgin coconut oil. I am even more pleased that it has mugwort extracts, which is known for its anti-bacterial properties (take that, pimples!).
I decided to give this product a try the following day after work when I have to remove my makeup. I had on mascara, eyeshadow, eye liner, blush, bronzer, and some other primers like eye primer, highlighter,BB cream, face powder, the works!
What I instantly noticed about the consistency of the oil is it is not heavy. The pump dispensed just enough oil (one usually just needs 2-3 pumps). It does not feel warm on the skin and it actually glides like silk. I also did not have to put force to “rub out” the makeup around my eye area as the makeup gets removed after 3-4 gentle strokes.
As I went on to remove makeup through gentle facial massages (it felt so good! One must try it!), I noticed that it did not sting nor irritate my skin even after I went over a tiny, annoying pimple.
When I washed it off with lukewarm water, I am pleasantly surprised that the cleansing oil did not leave any oily film or residue coating on my hands and face. It gets washed off pretty easily which s a major plus. After patting my face dry, I immediately noticed that my skin is softer (and cleaner). I continuously used the product for a couple more weeks to see if I will have improvements in my skin and pores, especially around my nose area.

What I like about Laneige Perfect Pore Cleansing Oil:
• It has a very subtle and gentle scent. It does not mask the product with any fragrance that can irritate your sense of smell. If I am to place how it smells like, think of how a baby’s bath gel’s smell and imagine it to be at least twice more gentle.
• The packaging is superb. It comes in a light-weight, sturdy, clean bottle with pump that is made with high-quality just by the looks of it. No spills!
• It lives up to my expectation of a gentle makeup remover, without making my skin breakout.
• Noticeable result in my skin’s texture right after using the product.
• Contains natural virgin coconut oil which can take those waterproof makeups like a pro.
• Contains anti-bacterial properties.
• Helps unclog the pores by carefully and gently clearing dirt and makeup off the face.
What I do not like about Laneige Perfect Pore Cleansing Oil:
• Nothing! I love it! Well, I guess if the actual bottle itself has an English translation, then I can dispose off the product insert that comes with it. But other than that, this product gets my 5 stars!
After using the product for almost a week, my pores are smoother and feels and looks cleaner. Do you ever get that feeling whenever you touch the side of your nose and you felt those persistent whiteheads and/or blackheads that you just want to squeeze them out? I know I do, but thanks to Laneige Perfect Pore Cleansing Oil, I almost CANNOT feel any whiteheads or blackheads whenever I touch my nose. The reflection in looking back at me my mirror definitely tells the same thing.
I am definitely getting this again even if it is pricey, but then at 250 mL and having to use only 2-3 pumps of the product, I think that this will last me for a while. More time for me to save for when I run out!
This product is a winner for me. I will recommend this to my friends. Please be reminded however that although this product is for all skin types, if you have a skin condition that requires attention of a specialist, be cautious and always consult your dermatologist first before starting any skin or beauty regimen.
In conclusion, I am glad that I did not let my “fear” of using “oil” on my face prevent me from trying something new. I have learned that we must not fear anything new because it is certainly part of life, pretty much like changes that we have to learn to adjust to and accept. Always remember that you are beautiful – embrace it and use it well.
Good luck! 🙂
