This review will be on the Laura Gellar Baked Gelato Swirl Illuminator in the shade “Ballerina.” I have previously reviewed another shade called “Gilded Honey” here.
Illuminate your natural beauty! This innovative hybrid texture applies like a sheer powder but feels like a cream, creating a translucent wash of luminous color that can be swept all over the face for a lit-from-within glow. A fresh 3-D design captures the look of your favorite Italian dessert, and lasts until the very last application.
My Experience with Laura Geller Ballerina Baked Gelato Swirl Illuminator:
Packaging: This product comes in a simple plastic packaging. It doesn’t feel too high end and the plastic lid feels cheap. I do like how the product itself looks inside with its beautiful swirl design.
Texture and Application: This product is a hybrid between a cream and powder. It has the same smoothness and creaminess of a crème product yet it has none of its emollient nature. It is super easy to apply and my preferred method of applying this product is with a stipple brush for a sheer wash of color or with my finger tips for most concentrated application. It feels super lightweight on the skin.
Shade and Pigmentation: The shade “Ballerina” is a beautiful peachy shade. When applied on the skin, it gives just a hint of warmth and rosiness. The pigmentation is sheer, but it is easily buildable in layers, hence the color is not so strongly imparted on the skin, but it does give a very luminous, glowy, dewy look to the skin. The glow is very natural looking and you cannot detect individual shimmer or glitter particles even from up close. I think this product performs exactly like my all-time favorite Becca highlighter and it is much less expensive than those. You can go for a subtle highlight or a full JLO glow depending how much you use. I love to use this all over my cheek especially if I want to give my matte blush some dimension. It doesn’t alter the color of the blush underneath but when it does catch the light you can detect the rosy color.
Staying Power: I am pretty impressed with the staying power of this product. I easily got a whole day of wear which is usually 7-8 hours for me with very little fading occurring around 6 hours, but the glow was still fairly visible despite that. It did not accentuate my pores or cling to my dryness. It did not make me look greasy by the end of the day.
Overall, this is a fantastic product. This product is only available in 2 shades and I love both of them. The shade “Glided Honey” is preferred a tad bit more than this shade by me, but you could go for either shades and I guarantee you will not be disappointed.
If you were thinking about splurging on the Becca product but couldn’t justify the price, these are a very good alternative to that. I highly recommend this.
