I was hesitant to try this shimmery baked blush, but it completely changed my perception about shimmery blushes. Let’s read more about Laura Geller Catalina Baked Color True Blush.

My Experience with Laura Geller Catalina Baked Color True Blush:

The dome shaped blush comes in a round compact packaging with an attached mirror. I also received a small blush brush with its packaging, but I don’t use it anymore as I prefer my Bare Minerals Blush Brush (review soon). Overall, I find it quite user friendly and travel friendly, packaging wise.

My shade “Catalina” is described as “happy pop of lilac pink in smooth sateen finish”, which is pretty true to its words. It is a warm lilac pink shade which gives such a nice, warm glow to my pale skin as if I am actually blushing. I have also noticed that whenever I wear this blush close to my hairline, it makes my face appear slimmer in pictures and in person as well. I am more happy to see that it has a natural finish, hence most of the times no one asks me if I am wearing makeup, which is quite relieving. 😛 I am not sure how it will fair on medium and dark skins though.

baked blush

Like they claim, it has a soft, satiny finish. It’s a super pigmented blush, but it is powdery and shimmery in nature, and I do see lot of blush feathering around especially when we swirl or pat our fingers and/or brush on dome. But thankfully, no such issues take place once the blush is properly blended on the skin. Laura Geller blush is super saturated and gives full color payoff with finger tips as well. But, without proper blending on skin, it might look shimmery. The good point is that I can never really go overboard with this shade as it doesn’t get highlighted a lot. Plus, it always comes up as soft a sheen on skin, hence no issues for beginners like me.

blush with mirror

I see that multiple swipes may come up ashy on my skin, after all it is an intensely pigmented blush. In fact, it is perfect for pros since they know the tricks and have good tools to create magic with such forgiving shade and texture. And to be honest, reading about mica, talc in its formulation irked me a bit, but I haven’t seen any side effects on my skin. It stays on & on for good 8+ hours on my oily skin, but with makeup. Its staying power might get affected on bare skin though.

I also learned somewhere that if our blush is intensely pigmented, then using it prior foundation makes the blush last longer. I tried this technique with this shimmery shade, and it didn’t go well. Anyway, it is quite surprising for me that despite being a shimmery shade, it never accentuates or highlights my oily skin or pores. I often swipe it on my bare skin without any primer/foundation and yet it comes up as a soft sheen. Moreover, it neither settles on my dry patches nor aggravates them further, much to my liking.

pink blush

To sum it up, it is a nice warm, pink, super pigmented yet shimmery shade which is perfect for every skin type. Hence, recommended to every beauty provided you are fine with talc & mica. I do feel it is pricey plus it will last me longer, hence I might not get it again. But, makeup lovers who shy away of using blushes should definitely try this one. This blush will boost up your confidence.
