Laura Geller Papaya Baked Gelato Vivid Swirl Blush Review

Hello lovely ladies,

I am back with yet another review, this time, it’s a blush from Laura Geller. Honestly, just looking at the cutest packaging ever, I wanted to get my hands on one of these. However, considering that I needed another blush – like I needed a hole in my head, I couldn’t decide which one. You realize what addiction makeup can be? So, instead of wanting a particular shade and checking which brand will have that available, my mind is so skewed that I’ve already decided what product I want (not need) and have yet to take a call on what colour. If anyone else reading this, does that too, please acknowledge that you are an addict! Dispose off all your makeup immediately and head to the Himalayas = I’ll see you there! Okay, coming back to the review in hand, let’s see how this one performed.
Laura Geller Papaya Baked Gelato Vivid Swirl Blush

Product Description:
Indulge in creamy swirls of Italian gelato with every application of Baked Gelato Vivid Swirl Blush. The fresh 3-D design captures the look of this decadent frozen treat, and lasts until the very last application! The innovative hybrid texture applies like a powder but feels like a cream, creating translucent, vibrant color for a flirty, natural-looking flush.

Packaging:  The product comes packaged in a plastic container with a transparent lid which is dome shaped and flips open. You can see the beautiful swirl pattern through the transparent lid. The packaging is devoid or mirror or brush.
Shade name

The packaging reminds me of the Clinique Cheek Pop in the sense that both have plastic containers, the pattern of the blush is clearly visible from the lid and is very attractive. However, I feel that, despite being plastic, the Clinique packaging is still very chic looking, easily stackable and the quality of plastic is good whereas the plastic used for the Laura Geller blush somehow feels very cheap. It does not feel like a department store product. Considering the price point, I feel a little thought could have gone into the packaging too.

My Experience with Laura Geller Papaya Baked Gelato Vivid Swirl Blush:

Color:  The shade “Papaya” described as a “vibrant coral” is a pinky-peachy coral with hints of pearl which gives it a lovely sheen and life. It’s a lovely shade for summers and will complement most of your summer color lipsticks – the pinks, the peaches, the corals and the oranges.
Baked blush

So, how did I end up picking this colour from all the gorgeous shades available? Honestly, I was really attracted to “Plumberry.” But, I kind of had similar shades in my kitty.  Yeah, like I didn’t have enough corals!! 😉 Okay, the reason I picked this one up was because it was touted to be a dupe of the famed Tom Ford Love Lust blush, which I have been lusting for some time, but unable to bite the bullet because of the price and not knowing whether it would suit me – there is no way to try before you buy. So…
Close up blush

I find the colour quite flattering. It instantly brightens the face and would suit pretty much all skin tones and is pigmented enough to show up on even darker skin tones.

Texture:  The texture is quite interesting and very different from most baked blushes. Most baked blushes start as a liquid creamy form in the pan which is then baked. This results in them drying to a powder, rising (like a cake) and getting the dome with the powder becoming very light and airy. However, in the case of the case of this blush, even though its supposed to be baked, it doesn’t have the characteristic dome shape and neither is the texture light and airy. On the contrary, the texture feels creamy and is extremely dense. It reminds me of my Clinique Cheek pop blushes again.
Swirl blush

The product transfers easily onto the brush and goes onto the cheek nice and smooth and blends like a dream. Nicely buffed in, it almost looks like a stain with a sheen to it.

Pigmentation:  Pigmentation is great, it allows you to go sheer or build it to the colour in the pan. One light sweep of the brush is all you need to give a natural flush.
Swatch on hand

Lasting Power:  The blush really lasts the whole day, about 8-8.5 hours on my skin. Quite impressive!

Visibility on skin tone:  The colour shows up easily in one swipe of the brush and gives a natural blush to the cheek. If you want more, swirl the brush in the pan and then apply. Since the pigmentation is good, it shows up easily on my skin and would do so for even deeper skin tones.

Overall Thoughts:
It’s a lovely shade and really pretty to look at and is very flattering on the skin.  I think it’s a nice color to own if you intend to have only one blush in your kitty, you could definitely pick this since it works with a variety of lipstick shades, looks natural, and this would last you a long time.

  1. Love the blush! It’s so pretty! Yeah actually considering it’s a 21$ Blush, packaging could have been cuter! Btw what’s on your lips? Looking Gorgeous btw! 🙂

    1. Thanks Priyanka – the blush is indeed very pretty! Sorry, thats a typo – its not US$21, its actually 21Pounds = about INR 2100. Considering that, Packaging should definitely have been better.
