My Experience with Laura Geller Spackle Hydrating Moisturizing Under Make-up Primer:
Packaging: Comes in an easy-to-use squeeze tube; very travel friendly.
Texture/Consistency: This primer is a hybrid of a gel and a cream. It is not too thick, not runny either. The consistency is not dense. It spreads easily on to the skin and only a pea-sized amount is needed for the entire face.
Feel on skin: On application, it causes a bit of cooling sensation, but only for a second or so. It gets absorbed into the skin completely, within seconds. It leaves behind no residue, greasiness, or stickiness, just smooth and silky skin. I have normal-dry skin and this primer (as per claims) instantly hydrated and soothed my skin. Even though it feels super lightweight on my skin, it is hydrating enough to moisture and get rid of all the dry patches on my skin. I realized that my makeup goes on smoothly after using this as a base. This moisturizer keeps my skin hydrated all day long and I have not noticed my skin feeling parched, even under the most matte foundation.
The finish it imparts looks very natural and undetectable. It is neither too matte nor shiny. Since this primer is silicone free, it will not fill in your pores. I don’t have problematic pores hence this primer is good enough for me on a daily basis, but some of you out there with visible pores, you might have to pair this with a silicone-based primer. Since it is so lightweight, I feel that even those with oily skin would like this primer. I have not noticed my face makeup lasting any longer than it usually does with or without this primer.
Fragrance: It has a very mild fresh scent, which I like. It is not overpowering and fades away quickly.
Overall, I would put this product in the same category as my “Too Faced Hangover Primer” as it performs just as a lightweight moisturizer for my skin and not necessarily as a “primer” which helps smooth out skin texture, fill in pores, and improve the longevity of my makeup. Since it is winter time and my skin is dry, so I appreciate any bit of hydration for my parched skin. I am enjoying this product and I know I will feel the same even during summers where I tend to reach for something more lightweight yet equally hydrating for my skin. I don’t necessarily see this as a must-have (any good drugstore moisturizer will do what this primer does) even though I do really like it, hence I will recommend this.
Pros of Laura Geller Spackle Hydrating Moisturizing Under Make-up Primer:
- Lightweight.
- Non-greasy and non-sticky texture.
- Gets absorbed instantly.
- Deeply hydrates the skin.
- Foundation goes on smoothly over this as a base.
- Smooths out my dry patches and does not let my foundation cling on to them.
- Does not make my face shiny by the end of the day.
- Perfect for daily use with or without makeup.
Cons of Laura Geller Spackle Hydrating Moisturizing Under Make-up Primer:
- Expensive for functioning just as a moisturizer and doing noting else.
- Does not increase the staying power of makeup. This primer did not affect the wear time of my makeup positively or negatively, even though my makeup did sit nicely and looked better on my skin.
- Does not fill in pores since it is silicone free.
- Goes clear on the skin, hence will not even out your skin tone.
