Laura Mercier Radiance Foundation Primer Review

Hello Everybody,

Today’s review will be on the Laura Mercier Radiance Foundation Primer.

Product Description:

A lightweight, creamy gel that creates an invisible barrier between skin and makeup to prime your face for color.  Worn under foundation, this illuminating primer creates a smooth, flawless canvas for application, allowing foundation to glide on easily and stay fresh and color-true for hours. Ideal for all skin types, the universal pearl tint creates a soft focus effect to minimize the look of imperfections with a radiant finish. It’s the first step to Laura’s “Flawless Face.” Dermatologist-tested and non-comedogenic, it is formulated with antioxidants vitamins A, C, and E; Prestige Soft Focus Pearls; and skin-conditioning Jojoba.

Just as a painter primes a canvas, Foundation Primer—the original—was created by Laura Mercier in 1995 to prime the skin. After creating the industry’s first primer, she “reinvented” it and made a version that added soft highlights, luminosity, and radiance to skin. A lightweight, creamy vitamin-rich gel that prepares the skin for makeup application, it creates an even, invisible layer that acts as a buffer to outside elements and expertly holds foundation. This water-based formula not only keeps makeup staying fresh and color-correct for hours but also helps perfect skin tone over time.

My Experience with Laura Mercier Foundation Primer:

Laura Mercier’s primers are available is a variety of finishes.  There is a normal one (previously reviewed on IMBB), Hydrating, Radiance, Mineral, Oil Free one and one containing SPF.  I am very pleased with this product. I didn’t use primers previously under my makeup thinking that I didn’t really need to, but this product changed my views on how priming can be an important step in making your makeup look flawless.

Packaging: This primer comes in a very sleek plastic squeeze tube with a screw on cap. Very travel friendly and very convenient to disperse controlled amount of product out of the tube.

Texture: The texture and consistency of this primer is runny and this works to an advantage as it is very easy to spread even a small amount of product over a decent amount of area of skin.  With primers, you don’t really need to cake them up so much. With this product, not much is required to cover the whole face. It is very lightweight and non greasy, hence suitable for all skin types.

Finish:  This primer lives up to its name “radiance.” It definitely provides a glow to the face which helps lightly blur out imperfections. As you can see in the blended out swatches, it does look like it’s very shimmery (which is very much visible under artificial light, but looks very natural under natural light), but there is no tacky, gritty, heavy shimmer particles in it. It does not make the face look sparkly, but instead makes it look very glowy and radiant from within.

The issue for me here now is that even though it provides a very radiant finish, it tends to get covered up if you are using a medium to heavy coverage foundation. The radiance will be more visible and noticeable only when used with a very sheer foundation or a BB cream.

Performance:  This primer definitely made my makeup look fresh all day long. Makeup does not crease or smudge and looks freshly applied. Though my makeup got easily removed with face wash and water which makes me think that the main function of this primer is to not make the makeup budge proof, but to make it looking fresh all day.

Fragrance:  It has a very faint scent, which fades away as soon as applied.

Overall, a very good product, though a little on the expensive side. I will recommend it.
