Laura Mercier Second Skin Cheek Colour Blush – Lush Nectarine Review

IMBB Sponsored Product Review

Laura Mercier, which seems to be one of the most underrated beauty brands out there, is a brand I have come to appreciate as I get nearer to turning 30 (omg!). I like how wearable their cosmetics are. The Laura Mercier Second Skin Cheek Colour Blush is all about that, being easy to wear and looking natural.

Laura Mercier Second Skin Blush Lush Nectarine

Product Description:

A light-as-air, velvety powder blush that sweeps on silky sheer color easily and evenly. With skin-silkening natural botanicals, skin not only looks but also feels beautiful all day long.

25 USD.

Product Description:

The Laura Mercier Second Skin Cheek Colour Blush contains 3.6 grams of product. It’s small, in a glossy, rectangular compact, inside of which is a mirror and the pan whose size looks similar to some generously-sized eyeshadows. The head of my blush brush does fit in it easily though.

My Experience with Laura Mercier Second Skin Cheek Colour Blush – Lush Nectarine:

This shade “Lush Nectarine,” is a “soft, peachy coral” according to the Laura Mercier site, was not my first choice because it seemed like a pretty common blush shade.  Also, I already have some blushes from the same colour family in my stash. However, all of my other shade choices were out of stock.

It took some time and experimentation, but I have come to like Lush Nectarine a lot. The colour is indeed a peachy coral, a warm shade, with very subtle golden shimmer.  Super easy to pull off on warm skin tones.  The colour actually is nothing too unique, but on the skin, it looks just beautiful.

I think it’s the finish and feel of it that makes Lush Nectarine special, more than the colour itself. This blush has a light, silky texture.  Light as air is a good description! It’s quite finely milled and it’s not powdery at all either. It’s got a medium, just-right texture.

The Second Skin Cheek Colour Blushes are mostly sheer blushes – a little fact that escaped my attention when I purchased it, and I thought at first that Lush Nectarine was too sheer for me (my skin tone is medium with yellow undertones; in MAC foundations, I am NC 30-35). After trying it a bunch of times, I found that what worked best for me was to pat my brush five times into the pan, then apply it to the cheek and blend. Then, do the same on the other cheek. I swipe on a few additional layers if I think I need more colour. See, it’s sheer but buildable to a certain extent, about medium opacity. I end up using a lot of product each time, but I honestly don’t mind because it looks so pretty and it is a dream to blend. I only need, like, five seconds to blend and it looks even and really natural.

I love this blush because it blends easily and seamlessly into the skin, no joke. It lives up to the Second Skin name that way.  I get a subtle, lovely flush on my cheeks without (in my opinion) looking like I actually applied blush. It’s something I can use on both my 5-year-old daughter’s cheeks and on those of my 50-plus mom who doesn’t like wearing makeup.

Close up swatches of Lush Nectarine in daylight. Sorry, there’s no face swatch this time, I look tired from from taking care of a newborn 😛

Pros of Laura Mercier Second Skin Cheek Colour Blush – Lush Nectarine:

  • Blends seamlessly, no harsh lines or blush stripes here.
  • Sheer but can be built up to medium opacity.
  • Not chalky, has a silky texture.
  • I get a wear time from it of 5-6 hours.
  • Has no scent.
  • Doesn’t irritate/break out my skin.
  • A pretty shade, great for summer.
  • The shimmer in it is fine and subtle, okay for day time.
  • It’s size makes it handy for travel.

Cons of Laura Mercier Second Skin Cheek Colour Blush – Lush Nectarine:

  • It’s expensive.
  • It’s small.
  • It may not show up on darker skin tones.
  • The glossy casing tends to show fingerprints.

I would recommend this product to those who prefer a natural makeup look, or need a blush ideal for work or school and also to those who tend to be heavy-handed with blush and want a more natural-looking finish.  Also, to people with pale to medium skin tones, due to its sheerness and since I am not sure this would show up well on darker/tan complexions. Despite its small size and relatively expensive price, I find that the Laura Mercier Second Skin Cheek Colour Blush in Lush Nectarine is worth it.
