Laura Mercier Secret Brightening Powder Review

Hello Everyone,

Wish you all a very Happy New Year.  This past month was full of fun and excitement with Christmas and New Year parties and family gatherings, but every year, when all this holiday madness gets over, we are left with a dried up Christmas tree, a few added pounds and tired eyes with those monstrous eye bags and dark circles (all the late night parties do take a toll on you). Thank God for the undereye concealers that helps us look somewhat presentable at work. Life would have been a lot easier though if using these concealers was not so tricky.  I have been using Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Concealer, which I have reviewed earlier and I am quite content with it, but as every liquid or cream product needs to be set with a powder, I picked up Laura Mercier Secret Brightening powder for setting up this concealer. My friend at work swears by this product. So, I wanted to see what will it do for my under eye area.

Product Description:

A lighter-than-air setting powder that adds an invisible lightening boost.  Create the appearance of the most naturally perfected skin, while maximizing the wear and coverage of makeup. This transparent white setting powder brightens, lightens, and boosts luminosity. Formulated with light-reflecting micronized pigments, this super-soft weightless powder delivers a soft radiant finish, never settling in fine lines, accentuating shadows, or building up on skin.  Dermatologist-tested and non-comedogenic, this product is perfect for all skin types, even sensitive ones.

It comes in a small transparent plastic jar. It has a sieve thing on the top which can be very messy. A lot of product comes out through the sieve top, so you have to be very careful while opening the jar. The packaging is not at all travel friendly.

My Experience with Laura Mercier Secret Brightening Powder:

Let me start by telling you guys that I am very impressed with this powder. While I had my doubts about spending $24 for another powder while I already own and love my Make Up For Ever setting powder, I am glad I got it. It comes in two shades 1 and 2. #1 is for fair skin tones and # 2 is for olive and darker skin tones.

It is a very finely milled white powder which feels incredibly light on the skin. It can be used to set your makeup, but for me, it works really well for setting my under eye concealer. I use a very tiny amount of the powder with my fluffy shadow brush and blend it over my concealer. It instantly gives a subtle brightness without being too noticeable. It has silica in it which makes it glide very smoothly on the skin and does not settle into fine lines. It does not look cakey at all and shows up beautifully in pictures without giving that white cast on your under eye area. It has the light reflecting micronized pigments which give very sheer highlighting effect. In sunlight, you can see very fine shimmer particles in it, but there is no glitter in it. You have to be very careful with the amount you use; a little goes a long way with this.

Whenever I use this powder, there is no creasing of my under eye concealer. It makes me look awake and somewhat less tired. I am not a fan of that few shades lighter than your skin tone, very bright under eye area look, so this powder works great for me as it is very sheer. If you want an extremely brightening and highlighting powder, then this is not for you.

IMBB Rating:

Yes, the price is on the higher side, but with the tiny amount I use every day, this jar may take a whole year to finish or may be more. If you can get your hands on this one, do give it a try.

  1. Isha….it looks superb…..Clinique superbalanced powder comes in a similar packaging, but you can control the amount of powder that comes out by twisting……

    1. Yes Jomol I wish LM would also consider putting a twist cap on this one. Its sad that such nice powder goes to waste just because of the packaging.
