My Experience with Laura Mercier Smoky Topaz Baked Eye Colour – Wet/Dry:

Packaging:  Comes in a simple square case with a plastic top. I like the fact that the color of the shadow is clearly visible from the outside.

Texture:  This shadow is very smooth and finely milled. It does not feel chalky at all and feels very smooth going on the lid. It does have a little amount of shimmer in it which does not look that apparent on the lid, but gives the lid a nice subtle sheen. The shimmer particles are not at all gritty.

Shade and Pigmentation:  The shade I own is called “Smoky Topaz.” It is a nice muted grey-ish taupe with a brown topaz undertone. You can see how the finish differs based upon the method of application wet or dry. Using it dry gives a light bronze look which makes it excellent for blending out shadows and into the crease to complement many neutral day time looks I create.

When used wet, it gives a metallic deep taupey bronze shade. I apply it in patting motion on the lids when I am going for a deeper smokey eye.  The color can be sheered out or built up to an intensity you like easily. In the EOTD, I have used this shadow wet all over the lid and as you can see, I did not create a full-on deep smokey eye. I still kept it wearable for every day wear.  It does not give a lot of fall out.

Staying Power:  It does stay on the lids for 6 hours which is a decent wear time. When applied wet, it stayed for a hour longer. It did not crease at all. It is better to use this on a primer if you know you have a long day and want to prevent fading.

My only complaint here is that (keep in mind, this is my personal preference), I prefer palettes more than single shadows. I find palettes to be a good value for money and I would rather prefer getting smaller sizes of more shades rather than a bigger size of just one shade.

But apart from that, I do find this shade very wearable and the texture and pigmentation is very good. Staying power could have been better on its own, but that’s what primers are there for, right?  I will recommend this eyeshadow.
