This review will be on the Laura Mercier Stick gloss in the shade “Black Orchid.”
A sheer swipe of moisturizing color. This ultra moisturizing lip color is a cross between lip balm, lip color, and lip glace. It cares for your lips while delivering color in a sheer and sophisticated finish. Flawless and healthy-looking lips are just a swipe away! This ultra hydrating product contains antioxidants; skin conditioners; and vitamins A, C, and E to support the natural production of collagen in the lips.
My Experience with Laura Mercier Stickgloss in Black Orchid:
Packaging: This lipstick comes in a traditional round lipstick tube. Honestly, this kind of tube is not very modern looking and it kind of looks like a really old lipstick that my mother used to own during her time.
Texture, Pigmentation and Feel on lips:
This lipstick is very smooth and has a gel gloss like consistency. It gives a glossy appearance to the lips but it does not look too shiny. It feels very hydrating and moisturizing on the lips just like a lip balm would and has a sheer color payoff. Since this shade is a bit on the deeper side, I can build up the color with multiple swipes but it will never really go to a point of giving a fully opaque coverage. It is non sticky, non-slippery and feels very comfortable on the lips. It does not contain any specks of visible glitter or shimmer. The look it gives is very natural and makes the lips feel and look smoother and fuller. It is very easy to apply on the go because it does not bleed.
Shade: The shade “Black Orchid” is described as a sheer black cherry. It has very notable purple/plum undertones. It looks very natural and will go with any look and even on days you don’t feel like putting too much makeup on. It can also be used on top of another lipstick to give it some shine. This shade is a dupe of the Clinique Black Honey Lipstick that I had previously reviewed on IMBB.
Staying Power: The staying power of this lipstick is not that great as is the case with most sheer lipsticks. It stays on for hardly 3-4 hours and the shine dulls down as the time passes. It fades even quicker if I eat or drink anything and it does not leave any stain behind. I like the fact that it leaves the lips feeling moisturized even after it fades away.
Scent: It has a very faint scent which is not unpleasant or lingering.
Overall, yes, this is a very good product. I love the fact that it is very hydrating which is a boon for my dry lips. The color is universally flattering, but the sheer color payoff and the fact that this product is not that unique (you can find a lot of products in the drugstore or even a good tinted lip balm will perform similarly) makes it not worth the high $24 price tag for me. I will recommend this lipstick if you are willing to splurge.
I will also be reviewing the shade “Brown Sugar” from this line soon and here are both of the lipsticks swatched side by side.
Pros of Laura Mercier Stickgloss in Black Orchid:
- Universally flattering shade.
- Very moisturizing and hydrating, perfect for those with dry lips.
- Performs similarly to a tinted lip balm.
- Sheer color payoff, low maintenance.
- Non slippery, non-sticky.
- No strong scent.
Cons of Laura Mercier Stickgloss in Black Orchid:
- Very expensive for a product which performs just like a tinted lip balm.
- Poor staying power, fades quickly.
- Needs to be constantly reapplied.
