Lemon+Curd Scrub for Dark Patches Around Lips: DIY

Today I will be doing a DIY post for the dark patches around our mouth. Now, dark patches around my lips appeared when I first did my upper lip hair threading. They were ugly, real bad ugly patches! Partially, my dermatologists also told me that it caused due to my excessive caffeine intake, but then I needed coffee badly to survive the exams days. So I had to use something to get rid of them. Initially I used normal bleaches but after sometimes I notice unusual rough skin had developed, aggravating the skin problem. But later mom told to make this simple scrub which helped me a lot to get rid of those ugly patches within 2 months (yes! You read it right).

And yes, it lightens the facial hair with regular use as well 😀

Reasons:
Firstly, I would like to mention why there’s a discoloration or dark patch around lips. It can occur due to various factors:

1. Waxing
2. Threading (as it happened in my case)
3. Hormonal imbalance.
4. Facials
5. Allergies
6. Using bad skin care products (esp. expired ones)
7. Makeup not removed properly.
8. Caffeine intake
9. Smoking.

Now, coming straight to the solution.

dark around mouth

Ingredients required:
Lemon juice
Curd (preferably homemade )
Honey
Sugar (with medium granules)
Aloe Vera gel (for oily skin beauties) or Aloe Vera cream (for dry skin beauties)

Procedure:

Important: firstly, you can clean the area with lukewarm water to open the pores as this works like wonder for me; secondly, avoid going in the sun after using this scrub. The skin needs to relax, so preferably do it at night and go for a relaxed sleep.

Step 1: Squeeze out the lemon juice. (6-7 drops)
Step 2: Mix the honey with it. (6-7 drops)
Step3: Mix the vey well so that it turns orangish in color.
Step4: Mix the curd with it. (1/4 tsp).

Note: The mixture will be in 2:2:1 proportion.

Step 5: Mix it thoroughly (even if it takes time) and the final product will look something like Garnier conditioner 😛

Step 6: Massage it evenly around the lips for 5 mins and then leave it for 20mins. You will feel a little sticky after sometime. Now put another layer of the mixture along with sugar granules and start scrubbing gently for another 5mins. (Gently, I repeat again)

Lastly, wash off with cold water immediately and moisturize the area with any Aloe Vera product. I used Patanjali Aloe gel as it cools the skin (for my oily skin); the dry skin ladies can use any other lotion but Aloe vera one!

Why I used these ingredients:

Lemon: I believe in the mantra “When life gives you lemon, you slather them on your face!” Lol..just kidding. Lemon is extremely beneficial for skin due its acidic nature; it acts as a natural bleach. The direct application of lemon juice combined with honey is the best way to get rid of dark spots, skin discoloration.

Honey: Honey acts as an anti-aging agent and natural moisturizer. Honey has anti-microbial properties and natural antioxidants which help to protect the skin from sun rays and rejuvenate and refresh exhausted looking skin.

Curd: the Lactic Acid in curd helps in hydrating the skin as well as dryness and dullness of skin.Curd also acts as a natural bleach helps in lighting the skin.

Sugar: Sugar is a natural source of glycolic acid, an alpha hydroxyl acid (AHA) that goes into the skin and breaks down the “glue” that bonds skin cells & encourages cell turnover and generating fresher, younger-looking skin.

Aloe Vera: You know Egyptians used to call this plant “plant of immortality”?
Aloe vera gel contains two hormones – Auxin and Gibberellins, which helps in healing and anti-inflammatory properties that reduce skin inflammation. Giberellin in aloe vera acts as a growth hormone stimulating the growth of new cells. It allows the skin to heal quickly and naturally with minimal scarring.

I used this scrub thrice a week for 2 months. And within that time, all my dark patches were gone! When I recommended this mixture to another friend of mine (with dry skin) she benefited as well. You can see in this picture how my dark patches vanished magically!

Quick Tip:

Girls who don’t want to use artificial bleaches, try this. As all my patches vanished, I still use this mixture once a week as a natural bleach!
