As you know, in my Lime Crime haul, I had picked some of the new releases from this brand which included a brand new shade “Riot” from the ever-so-popular “Velvetines” range. In my Venus palette review, which will be up today, I have shared my thoughts about the recent Lime Crime controversy.
Earthy, muted red a.k.a “marsala.” Texture of a rose petal….in a bottle! Velvetines go on liquid, but dry matte. Touch-proof, transfer-proof and utterly addictive.
My Experience with Lime Crime Velvetines Liquid Matte Lipstick in Riot:
Packaging: This liquid lipstick comes in a frosted plastic tube with a doe-foot applicator. I love the design of roses of the cap which gives it such a girly appeal. The applicator is nice size and precise, but if you do have shaky hands, the application of it may still be difficult. Any mistakes made while application may be difficult to clean as it dries very quickly. I personally do not feel any difficulty with application.
Texture/Consistency: This liquid lipstick goes on creamy smooth liquid and dries down to a complete matte finish within seconds. Once it dries, it is completely budge proof and smear proof unless you purposefully try to move it. It does not bleed at all.
Shade: If you know all the other shades in the “Velvetines” line namely Red Velvet, Pink Velvet and Suede Berry, the common streak they all have is that they all are very bold, bright, statement lip colors. The shade “Riot” is the only one shade in the entire line which I fell can be a very wearable shade for everyone. Regardless of skin tone, it will flatter all. It is a muted earthy reddish shade, very warm toned. It also could be called the popular color of the year “marsala.” It is not quite red or pink, but somewhere in between. It is a very difficult shade to describe, but that is what lip swatch is for. On me, it looks very flattering and it being a matte shade, it is appropriate for day wear and for night wear, you can always top it off with a gloss. It will complement any makeup look and looks particularly beautiful when paired with looks created by the Venus palette.
Feel and Staying Power: This is the most comfortable product I have used in the category of “liquid lipsticks.” I have previously used Stila All day liquid lipsticks and Lime crime one seems much thinner in consistency, smoother and more hydrating.
Like all matte liquid lipsticks, it will accentuate if you have lips that are chapped or flaked, but if you exfoliate slightly before use, this will wear on like dream. It does have a slightly powdery feel on the lips after 4-5 hours of wear, which is not uncomfortable or bothersome quality. It does not feel sticky.
It stayed 8-9 hours intact. It also survives a full meal provided the meal isn’t too oily. It does not transfer at all and you can hardly feel it on the lips. You do need a makeup remover at the end of the day to remove all traces of it. I love the fact that this product is all vegan too.
Overall, it’s pure love! I absolutely love using this product and cannot recommend it enough. It is so worth the money and this shade is absolutely fantastic. I highly recommend this.
