Today’s review will be on a product I am sure a lot of you would be excited about. When I posted my Lime Crime haul a while back and almost all of you loved the shade “Wicked.” I know this review took a little longer to come, but I had been busy and I would also like to confess that this shade intimidated me a bit. But, I finally decided to get the guts to put on this shade even though the bright and joyous spring/summer is not really an apt season to wear such a deep dark vampy shade.
Texture of a rose petal… in a bottle! Velvetines go on liquid, but dry matte. Touch-proof, transfer-proof and utterly addictive.
My Experience with Lime Crime Velvetines Liquid Matte Lipstick in Wicked:
Packaging: I love the frosted glass-like bottle (don’t worry, it is actually plastic) with a beautiful rose design on the cap. The applicator is the usual doe foot one and it’s thin, small and precise. You can get a good clean application with the applicator provided you do not have shaky hands. Since this is such a deep bold shade – any mistake, any slip outside the lip line will be ghastly visible and it would take a lot of effort to clean it up. You have to bring out all the weapons (tissue, q tips, makeup remover) to wipe it up.
Texture/Consistency/Pigmentation: This liquid lipstick is creamy smooth. It is not too thick yet it is not runny. It spread easily and effortlessly and goes on with full opacity with one swipe. Once it sets, it is completely matte, budge proof and kiss proof. Once dry, it also will not transfer on cups.
Shade and Pigmentation: The shade “Wicked” is truly a deep vampy red. You can most definitely build up the depth, intensity and richness of the shade with two coats and turn it into a deep dark burgundy. You do have to be careful and apply the coat evenly if you are doing more than one coat because areas of your lips will have uneven pigmentation – one area being deep red while some being a deep burgundy and it is really difficult to correct unless you apply another coat. The only way to rectify this will be to wipe everything and start all over.
Feel on lips: Lime Crime Velvetines is one of those formulas that’s long wearing as well as highly comfortable on the lips. They are drying no doubt, but if you prep your lips before application (exfoliate and hydrate with a thin layer of moisturizer instead of slippery lip balm), you will get a smooth application. It does have a powdery feel on the lips into a few hours of wear time, but overall, it is very comfortable on the lips. It does not feel sticky.
Also keep in mind that the more coats you apply, the more dry it would feel on the lips. I prefer applying no more than one coat.
Staying Power: These Velvetines liquid lipsticks stay intact for 8-9 hours on the lips. This lipstick will survive through drinking and snacking and even a full meal provided it is not too oily. It does not bleed and you do need a makeup remover at the end of the day to remove all traces.
Overall, a fantastic product, totally worth the hype! I love using this product though the shade Riot is my favorite as I find that to be more wearable. The shade “Wicked” will be more apt for fall/winter wear or nighttime wear.
I would recommend this liquid lipstick.
P.S. The lip swatch is not as great as it could be. My apologies for that, but I kept messing up the application so many times that I gave up.
