This review will be on the Lime Crime Velvetines in the shade “Shroom.”
About the product:
Inspired by rose petals, Velvetines go on liquid and dry to a velvety-matte finish. Touch-proof, transfer-proof and utterly addictive!
Price: $20, but I got it for less than that during the “Black Friday” sale.
My Experience with Lime Crime Velvetines Shroom Liquid Matte Lipstick:
Packaging: All Lime Crime products have very unique packaging. These “Velvetines” liquid lipsticks come in a frosted plastic tube with a doe-foot applicator. I love the design of roses on the cap which gives it such a girly appeal. The applicator is a bit small but it is precise. I personally do not feel any difficulty with application of liquid lipsticks since I am used to it, but for beginners, it might take some practice as mistakes made can be a bit difficult to clean as it does dry quickly.
Texture: This liquid lipstick goes on creamy smooth liquid and dries down to a complete matte finish within seconds. The texture is a bit more liquid-y and not as mousse-y feeling when compared to Kat Von D Everlasting liquid lipsticks or Stila all day liquid lipsticks. Once it dries, it is completely budge proof, smear proof and kiss proof. It does not bleed at all.
Shade and Pigmentation: The shade “Shroom” is described as a 90s brown. It is undoubtedly a true muddy brown color which is a hot trend in makeup right now. This might not be a flattering color for everyone especially for those with fair light skin. This color does have a tendency to look like umm “number 2” (if you know what I mean), but paired with the right makeup, it can look nice. It will be very flattering and suit deeper skin tones. I personally am not a fan of this shade much. When it comes to brown lipsticks, Urban Decay matte revolution lipstick in 1993 is my favorite pick.
It is not streaky but since it is such a deep shade, you have to be very careful with the application. Any mistake or slip outside the lip line will be unforgiving and difficult to clean without staining. It goes fully opaque in one swipe hence you need not apply more than a single coat. If you apply it heavily, it is prone to transferring a bit.
Feel and Staying Power: These liquid lipsticks dry to a complete matte finish. I find the formula of Kat Von D liquid lipsticks much more comfortable than this in comparison. Still, this Lime Crime Velvetines feels like a feather on your lips. Like all matte liquid lipsticks, it will accentuate chapped and flaky lips, but if you exfoliate slightly before use, this will wear on like a dream. It does have a slightly powdery feel on the lips after 4-5 hours of wear, which is not uncomfortable or of bothersome quality. It does not feel sticky at all.
It stays on for 8-9 hours intact. It also survives a full meal provided the meal isn’t too oily or it will fade from the inside of the lips. Reapplication can be difficult on the existing layer of lipstick as it can flake and apply uneven. I would recommend wiping off all the product from the lips before reapplying.
It does not transfer at all and you can hardly feel it on the lips. You do need a makeup remover at the end of the day to remove all traces of it. I love the fact that this product is all vegan too.
Overall, a fantastic product formula-wise even though I am not a huge fan of this particular shade and much prefer shades like Riot and Pumpkin from this line, but if you fall into the dusky and deep skin tones, this shade would look absolutely gorgeous on you.

- Very comfortable on the lips, does not feel very drying.
- Vegan.
- Non-sticky texture.
- Does not accentuate fine lines.
Cons of Lime Crime Velvetines Shroom Liquid Matte Lipstick:
- Mistakes made during application can be unforgiving and difficult to clean.
- Reapplication can be difficult; you have to wipe all product from the lips before applying a fresh layer.
- I am not a fan of this shade against my skin.
