What’s the first thing that comes to your mind when you hear Jennifer Aniston’s name? If you’re like most people, it’s her hair you must be thinking about (she even has a hairstyle named after her Friends character!). Today, I’ll be reviewing a hair product from Living Proof – a brand Jen Aniston co-owns. As much as I love Ms. Aniston, what sold me on this brand was their commitment to use safe ingredients in their products. Over the years, the brand has gained a lot of popularity and today I’ll be reviewing a much-hyped product from them. To see whether it lives up to the hype, read on!
This is an “oil- and silicone-free styling treatment that provides volume, smoothness, conditioning, strength, and polish in one easy step.” It “contains Living Proof’s award winning, patented molecules: OFPMA to weightlessly smooth, add shine, condition, and soften hair, and PBAE to create revivable, long-lasting volume and body with manageability. This powerful formula provides heat protection, UV protection, and static control. Results are instantaneous and improve hair over time.” Also, thanks to the compatibility of the molecules OFPMA and PBAE, Perfect Hair Day is able to deliver shiny, strong, healthy hair plus a smooth, voluminous style in one bottle. It’s formulated without parabens, sulfates, and phthalates.
$26 for 4 oz.
My Take on Living Proof Perfect Hair Day 5-in-1 Styling Treatment:
So this product promises to be a one-step solution to all of your hair woes by giving it: volume, smoothness, conditioning, strength and polish. And, well, my hair needs all of these pretty badly! I have over processed hair that’s super dry and miraculously gets oily in one day after washing. After numerous rounds of permanent straightening (which I have given up for good!) and going blonde (for like a day!), my hair is thin and Fried, with a capital F! I currently use a leave-in conditioner, volumnizing mousse and shine serum to get my hair under control. I also blow dry and flat-iron my hair pretty frequently. I bought this product with the hope that it will take my 3-step hair care process down to one easy step. So, let’s get started on how well the product delivers on each of their 5 claims.
This product is a little bit sticky and has the consistency of Fevicol (it seriously looks like it so much!). The stickiness disappears once I blow-dry my hair (they do not recommend air-drying). It also smells strongly like synthetic berries, in a pleasant way. The product is pretty easy to work through the hair. It does an extremely good job of adding volume to the hair. The product is not heavy at all; so, it’s not like it coats the hair. It’s more of a weightless volume, and the end result is hair that looks fuller and healthier. It also makes the hair extremely smooth and soft. I love touching my hair when I use this because it makes it incredibly soft; it’s like touching a baby’s hair 😛
I haven’t used this long enough to know whether it has strengthened my hair, but it does reduce breakage. Part of what this product does is that it smoothes my split ends down. The end result is hair that doesn’t get tangled, and no hair fall from tugging and pulling hair! I don’t really buy the claims of it strengthening hair, but do feel it gives decent heat protection since I have been blow drying and flat-ironing my hair on a daily basis without the texture getting any worse, ever since I started using this product.
Where the product needs a little bit of work is the shine department. Even though it makes my hair look fuller and feel softer, it doesn’t impart much shine to my hair. Sure, my hair looks shinier than it does when I skip a hair styling product, but I don’t get the same kind of polish or shine from this as I do from a hair serum. This could possibly be because this product doesn’t contain any silicones. Anyway, I get the best results from this product when I combine it with the silicone-based hair serum.
Overall, this product does get you pretty close to a perfect hair day. Wait, scrap that, perfect hair days, it is. This product does an amazing job at keeping my styling fresh. Even though it moisturizes my hair, it keeps it from getting oily the next day, which is great! I also love the matte grey packaging. It’s really modern and makes the product a pleasure to use. I’d recommend this product to everyone, contingent on their using heat to style. A little bit goes a long way, so you get pretty good value for your money too! So, if you’ve ever looked at Jen Aniston and said “Damn, I wish I had hair like hers!” you might want to try this out 😛
