L’Occitane Exfoliating Rice Powder Review

L’Occitane Exfoliating Rice Powder

L'Occitane Exfoliating Rice Powder
Hi Guys,
I’m going to review my current face scrub/exfoliator today. I have been using the St Ives apricot scrub for ages now, so after finishing my last tube, I wanted to look around for another product. Also, after prolonged use I also felt that St Ives scrub was a bit harsh, maybe because of the rough granules. I’m a diehard fan of L’Occitane, so automatically I wanted to find out if they had any good face scrubs before checking out other brands.L’occitane does not have a wide range of face scrubs, they only had a handful. Out of them, I selected the Exfoliating rice powder from the Red rice range. One of my friends uses products from the red rice range and had quite good reviews on them. I have also used the mattifying red rice lotion sachets which I received as samples and they were quite good. Also, because I bought this during Christmas time, there was a 15%off.The scrub was in a powder form, and I was curious to know how it worked. The SA gave a demonstration, as soon as the powder came into contact with water; it turned in to a paste like scrub.

Oryza Sativa – Rice hull powder

Product description and claims
These polishing flakes transform into an exfoliating cream when combined with water or toner such as Purifying Rice Toner. Infused with red rice, L’Occitane Exfoliating Rice Powder eliminates excess sebum, impurities and dead skin cells that can clog pores. Ideal for combination and oily skin types who scrub regularly and have a tendency towards hyperkeratinization (thickening of the epidermis). Non-comedogenic and non-acnegenic.

My Experience With L’Occitane Exfoliating Rice Powder

This is truly a remarkable and unique product, one of a kind, I would say. It looks just like fine rice powder when you take it on to your palms. I would then wet my face and neck, and apply this powder on to my face. The powder then turns in to a cream like texture with very tiny granules. From there onwards, it is to be used as a normal face scrub. After massaging face and neck, it has to be washed off. I have heard that “Dermalogica” has a similar product called daily microfoliant. The packaging is quite different from other L’Occitane products. It comes in a plastic canister, which looks like a recyclable container. It has a plastic dial on top, just like face powder containers. The dial can be turned to reveal one large opening (To take out large amounts), few small openings and to close it off.
cap
The product itself is of an off white colour, and is a slightly coarse powder. I would like to stress “slightly coarse “here, because compared to other scrubs I have used in the past, this has fine granules. This product has a light fragrance, which doesn’t remind me of anything, just simple and pleasant. Since I have been using St Ives apricot scrub in the past which I found quite rough on my skin, but this product comparatively only offers very light exfoliation. Skin does not feel dry or parched at all after using the rice powder, but, you wouldn’t also get the super clean feeling.
This scrub can be used more often even daily, if you have oily /combination skin and this scrub will not over do the exfoliating part. Might be more suitable for people with sensitive skin who cannot use other coarse scrubs. (Silly me actually thought of trying out fine rice powder from my kitchen-it should work the same way, isn’t it? Haven’t tried it though, if we can use besan on our face, why can’t we use rice powder )

Pros of L’Occitane Exfoliating Rice Powder

• Provides very soft exfoliation and can be used regularly.
• Does not dry or irritate skin
• The product itself is unique, it is a powder form which turns into cream when water touches it.
• This product has a slight mattifying effect, after washing my oily/combination skin with this product, my skin feels mattified for at least couple of hours.

Cons of L’Occitane Exfoliating Rice Powder

• Extremely pricey for only 30g, the product’s performance does not justify the price.
• The exfoliation is very gentle, might not be suitable for mature skin as it will not provide the exfoliation mature skin requires.

IMBB Rating
3.75/5

I’m giving only 3.75 because even though it is a decent product, the price is not justified, might be able to find other scrubs which will do the same job for a lesser price or at least offer more quantity. I wouldn’t be repurchasing this after I finish up using it.

  1. Actually rice flour is a very good, especially body scrub.. But u should use the fine one otherwise its abrasive.. Can be combined with papaya..milk, cream, lime juice etc..
    Good review.. :haanji:

    1. Thanks ife,….yes true …we can buy the fine one from the store but im worried them might have added chemicals/bleaching ingredients to it ,….home made one is better

  2. i have used a similar one by the body shop. It feels quite nice on skin. 🙂 But it looks like an everyday cleansing product more than the exfoliator. Isnt it? 🙂

  3. I love using rice powder as a scrub! Regular rice powder, that is.
It works wonderfully and makes my skin soooo soft! I mix it with oats and milk.
    Nice review, Supriya! 🙂

  4. this is really expensive :struggle: ..and I have to agree with the fact that rice powder at home is definitely a good exfoliater and way cheaper  ..thnx for sharing :))

    1. Yes Sukanya,..the price is steep but I love L’occitane and love splurging on this brand.. ..but this particular product is too much …….would rather try rice powder

  5. The brand ‘ASAP’ has a daily scrub which I absolutely love. I’ve been using it for over a year and the bottle is only halfway through. It’s got fine beads but there’s plenty of them so it makes your skin nice and smooth.
