L’occitane Immortelle Brightening Water Review

Hey Girls!

I am back with a review of the L’occitane Immortelle Brightening Water that I used over the past one month. I was in an experimental mode with toners the last few months as I was bored of my regular Clinique 3-step Clarifying Lotion and the Fab India rose water. So I picked up the Forest Essentials Panchpushp toner, and was I finished that, decided to give this L’occitane Brightening Water a try. This was the first time I tried a L’occitane product – so let’s see how the experience was.

Price:

Rs. 1650 for 200 ml

Product Description:
The Brightening Toner is an alcohol-free formula enriched with organic immortelle floral water, with softening properties. It contains spring water, to help maintain optimal moisture levels in the skin, and a vitamin C derivative combined with raspberry extract for their radiance-enhancing action.

Ingredients:

Packaging:

It comes in a classy looking white and blue sturdy plastic bottle with a nice blue cap. The product is dispensed through a small hole that helps in regulating the amount you take out. So, it’s easier to use than the Clinique toner that is dispensed through a wide-mouthed bottle. But the bottle itself is not very compact or small – so I won’t say its exactly travel-friendly.

Product Claims:

• Stimulates microcirculation, collagen synthesis and protects against free radicals
• Enables a significant reduction in melanin production to make the complexion uniform and more radiant.
• Protect skin against UV rays.
• Contributes to fight against harmful effects of pollution.
• Antioxidant

Visible Results:

• Immediately refreshed and softened, skin is toned and complexion even.
• Smoother and more luminous, skin is more beautiful

My Experience with L’occitane Immortelle Brightening Water:

Well, I have been on the verge of buying LO products quite a few times, from their website and in store. However, the website does not clearly indicate which products are meant for oily skin and which are for dry skin. It does group the products based on skin concerns you are trying to address, but I don’t find that particularly helpful It would have really helped to know which are clearly meant for oily skin (not that there are too many of them).

product
The SAs at the store clearly did not know about anything! I had a really frustrating experience when I visited the store at Select City Walk, the SA showed me Angelica range for oily skin and then she first said its for oily skin, afterwards she said the Immortelle range is for oily skin  Basically she did a great job in confusing me even more than I already was. I had read some reviews for the Red Rice range meant for oily skin, but the SA said the Immortelle one would work better. I sort of reached a point where I simply wanted to pick up a toner, and because I liked the smell of the Immortelle brightening toner, I picked it up instead of the Angelica or the Red Rice one.

Now being a Clinique loyalist for many years, I know that toners meant for oily skin are supposed to give you a squeaky clean feeling with a slight stretchiness. This toner is clear and transparent like water and has a subtle floral fragrance that is very soothing.

When I used this toner, I felt that it had not taken off all the oil and dirt from my face in the first go. My face still felt oily and after swiping the toner over my face again with a cotton ball, I felt an obvious stickiness. My face still felt oily and incredibly sticky, I could literally feel the “chip-chip” on my face 

Nevertheless, I thought it’s just my skin trying to adapt to a new product, so I continued using it for the next one week. So, I was using the Clinique cleanser, this toner, Clinique moisturizer twice regularly for a week. While I was using it, every morning my skin would look like an oil factory, it looked dull and immensely oily. No luminosity or even tone whatsoever. After a week, the inevitable happened, my skin gave up and broke out. So, I immediately switched back to my trusted Clinique toner, and lo and behold! Within a week, my skin had settled down and looked well-behaved again, so I know it was this toner that caused the breakout. Now, I don’t know if this was because I was not using the entire range, but it sure left a bitter taste in my mouth.

I started using it again a few weeks back just to see if it works better since the weather was also slightly cooler and less humid, but this time my skin reacted within 3 days. So, now I have completely given up on it and stopped using it , its sits in the ‘Hall of Shame’ section of my cupboard now.

Pros of L’occitane Immortelle Brightening Water:

• Nice classy packaging.
• Beautiful and soothing floral fragrance that’s not too strong.
• May suit people with dry/normal skin as it provides moisturisation.

Cons of L’occitane Immortelle Brightening Water:

Unfortunately I have a lot of them:

• Made my oily skin even oilier and dull.
• Gives a horrible sticky feeling to the face and I woke up to dull and oily skin every morning.
• Broke me out every time I used it for more than 3-4 days in a row.
• Absolutely did not live up to the claim of making skin more luminous and even toned. I did not see any of these effects on my skin.
• Expensive for a toner when you get the Clinique one at 1400 and the Fab India rose water for just a couple of hundred bucks.
• Bottle is not travel-friendly.
• I never got the squeaky clean feeling after using this and it did not take out the oil from my face.

IMBB Rating:

1/5 – only because of the fragrance I guess.

Overall verdict:

If you are oily skinned, you may want to stay miles away from this. Not only does it make my face oilier and dull, it causes breakouts too. It may work well for dry skinned beauties as it provides adequate hydration.
