L’Occitane – Lavande de Haute-Provence – Hand Cream Review

Hi all,

I had always wanted to try the L’occitane hand creams – having heard so much about them. So while travelling to Chandigarh for the winter holidays, when I realized I needed something to counteract the dryness of my hands, I stepped into L’occitane to pick up the famed Shea Butter hand cream. However, I got waylaid by the site and smell of these fragranced hand creams and decided to pick this up instead – the Lavender Hand cream.

L'Occitane - Lavande de Haute-Provence - Hand Cream1

Price: INR 700 for 30ml

Product Details:

Enriched with shea butter and P.D.O. (Protected Designation of Origin) lavender essential oil from Haute-Provence, this smooth, light-textured cream gently helps to nourish the hands and leaves skin pleasantly scented.

Lavender was one of the first flowers distilled by Olivier Baussan, the founder of L’OCCITANE. Known in Provence as “blue gold”, this plant is an aromatic tribute to the south of France. It is the fragrant soul of the region, the fruit of respectful labor. L’OCCITANE uses lavender that is sourced from farmers’ cooperatives in Haute-Provence. Our complete collection of Lavender products includes soaps, perfume, body care and hand creams. Each product soothes the senses, offering a moment of relaxation and well-being thanks to the lavender oil.

Packaging:

The product comes packaged in aluminum tube with a screw cap. The tube allows control over the product being dispensed out. I thought it was a fuss free packaging – till the time I actually started using it. Aluminum tubes can be a bit of a pain to use and need a little self-discipline to squeeze the tube always from the bottom and work your way up. Well, they are safer for the environment if recycled.

My Experience with L’Occitane – Lavande de Haute-Provence – Hand Cream:

Except for my face, my skin is extremely dry. And being a mom of 2 little ones, my hands are perpetually in and out of water meaning, they are always losing moisture. There was a time when my hands were really soft and well moisturized. People actually used to comment on that. Well, I’m working towards going back to those days, a little difficult considering the tube/the bottle or anything else left on the bedside table is sure to disappear the next day and reappear a week later at the most inopportune spot! Kids!!

Coming back to this one – the cream is extremely light weight and easy to spread. Being light, it gets absorbed into the skin real fast leaving no residue behind. Immediately upon application, you can get on with work – be it your laptop or something else. Rest assured, there will be no stains or smudges around.

The cream has fragrance of lavender which lingers for a moment before it dissipates. It’s calming to the senses and very tranquil.

My hands feel soft and supple. I feel that this provides light hydration. Works well for climate like Mumbai and for early winters up North. However, come December/January, this hand cream will not be able to provide sufficient hydration. You will need something with way more hydrating – maybe the Original Shea Butter version.

Pros of L’Occitane – Lavande de Haute-Provence – Hand Cream:

1. Extremely lightweight.
2. Absorbs quickly.
3. Spreads easily.
4. No white cask at all.
5. No sign of greasiness or residue left behind.
6. Does not stain.
7. Has a lovely tranquil fragrance of lavender.

Cons of L’Occitane – Lavande de Haute-Provence – Hand Cream:

1. Not intensely moisturizing.

Conclusion: I really enjoyed this as my first purchase from L’Occitane. Loved the fragrance and the feel of it. And it’s kind of perfect for my Mumbai weather. I definitely don’t mind picking it up again. But then, considering the options within L’occitane, I may just pick up some other fragrance.

  1. i think loccitane hand creams are some things that i go back to all the time. I may give this a try in summers. Good review!! :))

“the tube/the bottle or anything else left on the bedside table is sure to disappear the next day and reappear a week later at the most inopportune spot!” veryy cute. hahha!!

    1. Thanks Rati! I intend to go back to L’occitane next week and pick up the Shea Butter one – i NEED it while i am at mom’s place.

And as to things disappearing, I have long once stopped keeping anything on my bedside table. I had started keeping things higher up and it worked for some time. But now my monkeys are very adept at climbing and for some reason they have an obsession for my lip balms! I buy one every month and then it disappears a couple of days down. It will resurface after weeks and definitely without a cap – so into the bin!! 🙁
