L’Occitane Mom and Baby Balm Review

L’Occitane Mom and Baby Balm

Hi there! Hope you are doing well. Are you like me and can’t wait to welcome the summer? Well here is a product which has helped me to keep chapped lip at bay! The L’occitane Mom and Baby  balm. I have to say, the fact that its “mom and baby” helps your stress o’ meter going down and not up! Choosing a gift is such a pleasure and receiving one is priceless!! Literally! 😀 This was part of a few L’occitane products I received as a gift this winter from a friend of mine.

On another thought, I wasn’t all confident to use it on my baby, something that has all the chances of being licked up by them. We prefer home remedies for them, don’t we!  The main reason why I tried it was, firstly it was L’Occitane  and I was badly in need of a lip balm which was organic, as we shifted to a cooler and dry place.

Here is more about the product:

It comes in a tub sort of packaging:

Looking at the size of it! I thought I was going to take a year or two to finish so much of  balm.

Price: €39

My experience with L’Occitane Mom and Baby Balm

The main ingredienst of the product is Shea butter 40%. I usually have tan and chapped lips as I keep travelling from dry to humid area. I prefer almond oil or ghee to  flavored wax and petroleum jelly. This one seemed different. Firstly about the packaging, I felt that a tub packaging was a clever move. For a product which is supposedly common for mom and baby, the tub packaging is way hygienic, which you apply directly from the tube on to your lips. Here one can make use of a spatula to take out the balm.
What’s bad about the packaging? When I received it all it had was a paper tape around the closed cap which was the only sealant. Beware this balm melts! It’s not travel friendly and the tub in my case leaked when the climate was a bit hot.

Secondly, at first attempt of trying it on, I found it to be heavy when compared to the other stick type  balm. The feel didn’t fade for quite some time. I found my chin to be oily within an hour. Then I realized I had used a little too much of the product. A small amount covers the lips just well. Mother’s to be, who often have the trouble of morning sickness Babies reject unfamiliar flavors right away. Keeping the product simply flavorless is the next clever move by L’occitane. It’s tasteless just like the other shea butter balm which L’occitane has to offer. At first I thought it gives the same feel of Vaseline petroleum jelly, except the fact that Vaseline actually melts around your lips. This one on the other hand becomes invisible within a few minutes leaving your lips supple. Maybe it just goes deeper into the or something! If I use Loccitane lip balm in the day time for work I notice my chin region to be oilier. Another plus, lips were soft even after several hours of application and I didn’t have to reapply. I tried adding it to my night regime. The product worked well for me after I used it for two weeks at bed time. I didn’t have a stretchy feeling to my lips in the day time.

I couldn’t get rid of the pigmentation on my lips. Of course the product doesn’t claim so. There is no SPF content which will protect your lips against sun. I have tried plain shea butter but this is far more effective (for me). To sum up:

Pros of L’Occitane Mom and Baby Balm

• Organic.
• Heavy  balm which works wonders for chapped lips and other dry skin in winters.
• It’s safe on babies.
• The tub lasts like forever.
• Does not have any flavor for those who don’t prefer one.
• Lips are supple for longer after use.
• No animal testing.

Cons of  L’Occitane  Mom and Baby Balm

• High price
• No SPF to protect you if you are stepping out in the sun.
• Heavy moisturizer feel and may not work for people with oily skin.
• Non availability in stores in India. One might have to purchase through online .
• The tub packaging could have had a better seal.

Will I repurchase/ recommend L’Occitane Mom and Baby Balm to others?

No, my excuse is that it is very high priced! The product lasts for long, really long, enough for you to get bored or addicted. Either way there are many other products in the market which solve the purpose for a lot lesser which you may not mind throwing off after using a month or so.

I may not recommend it to my friends unless they love this brand.
