Lorac Onyx Eyeshadow Review

I realised the importance of a black eyeshadow when I sent my BH Cosmetics 120 Color Eyeshadow Palette to a sweet friend as her birthday present. Also, it was a token of appreciation for her unending support towards my writing for IMBB (She is a silent, yet regular reader of IMBB). Unfortunately, 3 shades got broken in the package, including the black one. I told her that 117 shades were intact and she need not worry to which she replied that “But, black is black”.:D

Lorac Onyx Long Lasting Wet Dry Eye Shadow Review

Anyway, mostly black eyeshadows are amazingly pigmented and owning a good quality one is an amazing feeling. Let’s take a look at Lorac Onyx Eyeshadow.

Product Description:

Original velvety-smooth eye shadow formula in shimmering shades perfect for day or night. You can wear individually or layer together for gorgeous eyes that get noticed.

Price:

$5-$7 for 1.7 grams. I had purchased online for $6.

Ingredients:

Mica, Talc, Silica, Mineral Oil, Ethylhexyl Palmitate, Dimethicone, Boron Nitride, Calcium Sodium Borosilicate, Zinc Stearate, Kaolin, Methicone, Lauroyl Lysine, Althaea Officinalis Root Extract, Carum Petroselinum (Parsley) Extract, Cucumis Sativus (Cucumber) Fruit Extract, Calendula Officinalis Flower Extract, Centaurea Cyanus Flower Extract, Citrus Medical Limonum(Lemon) Peel Extract, Water (Aqua), Triethoxycaprylylsilane, Propylene Glycol, Methylparaben, Propylparaben, May Contain: Titanium Dioxide (Cl 77891), Iron Oxides (Cl 77491, Cl 77492, Cl 77499).

My Experience with Lorac Onyx Eyeshadow:

I have been trying to improve my cosmetics collection by picking up better products from better brands, whenever possible. I came across few Lorac palettes and wanted to purchase during the holiday season, but they were mostly limited editions, so I held back.

Lorac Onyx is a black eyeshadow. Black is one of the most used eyeshadow because of smokey eyes trend. All the other eyeshadows I own are either matte or drugstore; so, I picked up my first single eyeshadow.

Lorac Onyx Long Lasting Wet Dry Eye Shadow ReviewPackaging: This heart-throb black, sparkly eye shadow comes in a circular plastic pan (1.25 inch dia) with a transparent cover fixed in plastic frame and labelled with brand name Lorac. The shade name and few details are mentioned at the bottom. The screw cover closes tight, making this extremely light weight and easy to be kept even in the smallest of clutches.

Lorac Onyx Long Lasting Wet Dry Eye Shadow ReviewTexture and Finish: Lorac Onyx Eyeshadow is finely milled powdered eyeshadow, which can be used both wet and dry. But, the texture isn’t too fine or powdery. The shimmer particles add a bit of coarse feel to the texture. One slight swipe and a generous amount is of eye shadow is on your finger or the brush. Also, the blending property is amazing and it blends effortlessly and looks flawless.

The finish is sparkly, but not excessively shimmery because of the controlled amount of shimmer particles in the product. The shade and finish make it a perfect day and night wear shade.

Lorac Onyx Long Lasting Wet Dry Eye Shadow ReviewColour and Pigmentation: Lorac Onyx is jet black, yet, not too deep; feels like a ash-grey black when blended with scattered silver sparkles. It’s crazily pigmented; way too pigmented! The product couldn’t have made me happier with its quality. Make sure you use a really light hand on brush stroke, otherwise it can look way too over-the-top.

Longevity and Fallout: I observe a little fallout during application because of the texture, but nothing to worry about as it can easily be brushed off with fan brush, without any mess. Longevity is amazing. The shade lasts on my eyelids as long as possible, possibly all day long. Eight hours being the maximum wear time I have had without primer! So, you can anticipate that it will never stray with a primer. It doesn’t smudge or crease.

Lorac Onyx Long Lasting Wet Dry Eye Shadow ReviewPros of Lorac Onyx Eyeshadow:

• A jet black eyeshadow with deep grey basics(in blended state).
• Contains controlled amount of silver sparkles, making it a shimmery black eye shadow perfect for night eye makeup.
• Finely milled texture.
• One swipe picks up good quantity due to texture and compaction in the pan.
• Blends perfectly.
• Minimal fallout which is easy to brush off without mess.
• Not over shimmery.
• Excellent wear time with crazy pigmentation even in dry form.
• You won’t need a primer with this.
• No smudging or creasing.

Cons of Lorac Onyx Eyeshadow:

• Contains Parabens.
• Slight fallout.

IMBB Rating:

4.5/5 (because of the presence of Parabens in ingredients).

Would I Repurchase/Recommend Lorac Onyx Eyeshadow?

Such a great quality product! I might not be able to finish it anytime soon, but will pick up other shades from this range. Surely recommended to eye makeup lovers, specially masters of smokey eyee look.
