My Experience with Lorac Unzipped Gold Eyeshadow Palette:

I have made my love for Lorac eyeshadows quite clear in some of my previous reviews.  The Lorac Pro Palette is still one my go-to palettes. Hence when this brand new palette was released, I knew I had to get my hands on it asap!

Packaging:  Comes in a beautiful sturdy cardboard box which closes magnetically. It has a nice mirror inside. There is no applicator provided.  I do like the layout of the Lorac Pro palettes more in which one full row is matte and the other row is shimmer. In the unzipped palettes, the finishes are all random, but I like that they have been placed in gradual shade of deeper colors one after another.

Texture:  The texture of these shadows are not as smooth, creamy and buttery as the Lorac Pro shadows. These shadows are considerably powdery and the shimmer in them is a bit gritty too.  There’s a bit of fall out, especially in the shimmery shades. They also kick up powder when you dip your brush in it. You have to make sure to tap off the brush to remove the excess before you apply. I do like the quality of the Lorac pro shadows more and I am referring this for both the shimmer and the matte shades.

Shades:  The shades in the Unzipped Gold as the name suggests lean more towards the shades of gold whereas the original palette leans more towards rose golds.

Top Row:

Lorac Unzipped Gold Eyeshadow Palette

  • Undressed (matte) –A beautiful peachy cream shade. Pigmentation is not very strong, but it is a very good shade to highlight with and also dust all over the lid to set the primer. Also works great as an inner corner highlight to brighten and open up the eyes in a very subtle undetectable way.
  • Uninhibited (Shimmer)–My least favorite shade in the bunch. This shade feels grittier than the rest and did not have good pigmentation compared to others. It is a pale champagne gold.
  • Unpredictable (shimmer) – This is a beautiful peachy rose gold. This one has that duo chrome quality when applied, has good pigmentation.
  • Undeniable (matte)- It is a matte milk chocolate brown. Works great as a crease color with most looks. Pigmentation is good and the intensity can be easily built up.
  • Unedited (matte)- It is a deep, almost dark chocolate brown. Also has good pigmentation and works great for outer V or the crease.

Bottom Row:

  • Unlocked (shimmer) – It is a bright light yellow gold.  It has good pigmentation and works great for the inner corner highlight. It really brightens up the eyes.
  • Unlimited (shimmer)- is a yellowish gold. Has good pigmentation. Looks great as a lid color.
  • Unleashed (shimmer)- My absolute favorite shade in the palette. It is a beautiful copperish gold. Pigmentation is outstanding. It gives a very eye-catching shine. I love using this as a lid color for parties and night-time looks.
  • Unwind (matte)- is a nice light brown. Pigmentation is okay, but it is buildable. Works great as a crease shade and to blend out harsh edges.
  • Unafraid (shimmer) – a deep brown. Very similar to “Unedited” above it, but Unafraid has very small amount of shimmer particles and has a sheen to it. Even though it is shimmery finish, the shimmer particles are not very apparent on the eyes. It gives a nice metallic sheen.

Pigmentation:  I did find the bottom row shades to be much more pigmented than the top row.  Most of the shades have very good pigmentation. It is best to use this with a primer which will make the shimmer adhere better and give longer wear time.

Staying Power:  The staying power of these shows is good.  I do get good 5-6 hours wear time without the primer and 8 hours with the primer with minimal fading. The shimmers retain their vibrancy throughout the wear time.

I do find that I am not able to create numerous looks out of these shades and I feel very restricted.  I do like variety with certain unexpected pop of color in my palette which gets me out of my comfort zone, and that I am not able to find in this palette.  All these shades even though they look different in the palette give a very similar look to the eye. This is a perfect palette for creating eye looks for parties but not for everyday wear since wearing so much shimmer is not a preferred look for most people, especially for office wear.

Final Thoughts about Lorac Unzipped Gold Eyeshadow Palette:

I do like this palette, but I am not blown away by it like I was with the Lorac Pro. Some shadows are considerably chalkier. If this was the first palette I had tried from Lorac, I would have been impressed, but since I am aware of how good quality shadows Lorac is capable of making, this doesn’t make me very happy.

Overall, this is a good palette to have if you are attracted to the shades in this. But if you were to spend $42 on this for 10 shades, why not spend the same amount and get 16 shades in the Lorac Pro which will give you some pretty similar shades of golds along with many others; just something to consider.  But apart from that, I do like this enough to recommend it.

Hope you found this review helpful 🙂

In the EOTD – I have applied:

Lorac Unzipped Gold Eyeshadow Palette

  • Used Unleased as all over lid shade.
  • Used Unlimited in the inner half of the lid.
  • Used Unwind in the crease.
  • Used Unafraid in the outer V.
  • Used Unlocked in the inner corner to highlight.
  • Used Unlimited and unafraid on the lower lash line.
  • Did an exaggerated wing liner, kohl and mascara to finish off the look.

Some Tips:

  • Place duct tape as a guide in the shape of a cat eye and peel it off after doing the whole eye look including liner.  his will give a fantastic clean edge with absolutely no effort. I do this for every eye look.

Pros of Lorac Unzipped Gold Eyeshadow Palette:

  • Beautiful gold shades.
  • Very beautiful, shiny and shimmery shades.
  • Perfect for creating party looks.
  • Good packaging.
  • Primer provided.
  • Good pigmentation on most shades.
  • Good staying power.

Cons of Lorac Unzipped Gold Eyeshadow Palette:

  • Shadows feel a bit chalkier and shimmers feel a bit gritty.
  • Not as smooth and creamy soft as Lorac Pro shadows.
  • Has fallout.
  • Shades are very similar, not versatile and do not give room for creativity.
