L’Oreal Color Minerals Eyeshadow – Desert Shimmer Review

Hi gorgeous gals,

Today, I am here to review an eyeshadow from L’Oreal. I actually got this as a gift from my friend who knows I am an eyeshadow addict. I love creating different eye make up looks and do everything from light eye makeup to real smoky ones.  So, let’s see how this cutie is going to get reviewed.

My Take on L’Oreal Color Minerals Eyeshadow – Desert Shimmer:

This is a loose eye shadow and it comes in a real cute packing.  It comes in a small transparent bottle with a screw cap that has an attached brush and a lid to cover the whole bottle. It only looked cute, the application part was a complete mess. The bottle had a sieve like lid that we normally see in loose powders.  As this is a loose eyeshadow, we are supposed to use the brush provided with the product to apply it. This is the most messy and irritating part, you have to unscrew the cap holding the brush and dip into the eyeshadow bottle, where you can see the eyeshadow deposited on the surface of the sieve-like part of the bottle. While removing the screw cap, a whole lot of loose shadow starts spilling everywhere making a mess on everything that is nearby. The sieve holes are too prominent, that a lot of product comes out making the whole place dusty and dirty.

Now coming to the eye shadow, it is a pale colour with light pink and cream undertones which also has very light shimmer.  It is a daily wear shade for all types of skin tones, a very universally flattering colour. The texture of this shadow is soft, smooth almost like a fine powder. It does not give an even finish if applied without a primer, I usually apply this with a primer otherwise it tends to get patchy and settles on dry areas creating an uneven look. The brush that came along with this is quite useless,so I use my eye shadow brush and on special occasions I spray Mac Fix+ onto the brush and then dip it in the eye shadow bottle and apply on the lids. This will give more colour pay-off and coverage , it will also give an even finish making it more long-lasting. Eye drops are a good substitute for Mac Fix+ since they are also effective in holding loose eye shadows.

Applying this shadow can be a time consuming job, so this is a shadow for those special days where you have time to play with your eyes. Even though it is messy, I like the way it looks on my eyes. It has a good staying power too, it stayed around 5 to 6 hours with light creasing, without a primer on my lids. It would stay even more with a primer. The colour does not fade completely, at the end of the day you have to use a makeup remover. Even though there was a lot of fallout, it did not cause any irritation to my sensitive eyes. Overall, it is just an okay product with its fair list of pros and cons.

Pros of L’Oreal Color Minerals Eyeshadow – Desert Shimmer:

  • Universally flattering shade, to be used on any occasion.
  • Good colour pay-off when applied with a primer underneath.
  • The light subtle shimmer gives a bright look to your eyes, which can be intensified according to your taste.
  • Long-lasting with or without a primer.
  • Does not cause any irritation to sensitive eyes.

Cons of L’Oreal Color Minerals Eyeshadow – Desert Shimmer:

  • Being a loose powder, the application can be messy.
  • The packing is totally useless, making the process of applying eyeshadow to be a strenuous and time-consuming job.
  • The brush provided is also pretty worthless.
  • Uneven finish and accentuates dry patches when applied on bare lids.
  • Easily dupe-able shade.
  • Not at all travel friendly, even though the packing is sturdy, application will be out of question.

IMBB Rating:

2.8/5. It is best to skip this eyeshadow, it’s pointless investing in this considering the list of cons. I received it as a gift, so didn’t have to spend a single penny, but anyone who wants to give it a try can definitely go for it. I like what I have even though there are major issues.
