Hi Beauties,

Today, I will be reviewing the L’Oreal Star Collection lipstick in Sonam Kapoor’s shade “Pure Garnet.” This shade has totally got me confused and so I took a long time to review this one. This lipstick, I feel, is an extreme at all counts. Extremely beautiful shade and extreme pigmentation are the good ones, but a few other extremes have got me a bit worried. It is extreme matte, extremely difficult shade to apply, and extremely patchy removal considering the brand, the price and the comparison with the other shades. I have spent a few days just thinking about what to write in this review and I have now decided. A lipstick should not be difficult to live with. If a lipstick is making my life so very difficult, it is not a good one to own.

My Experience with L’Oreal Color Riche Pure Reds Star Collection Pure Garnet Lipstick:
Packaging: The lipstick comes in a very glamorous black plastic body, wrapped in a transparent sheet. The body is good, scratch free and tamper proof. It has a color coded button to help in identification. It has the autograph of L’Oreal ambassador Sonam Kapoor on the lipstick case.
Shade: The bullet looks a deep brown shade on first appearance, but it swatches a pretty dark wine shade. It is an extremely pretty color, reminding me of MAC Diva. You are bound to fall in love with the shade, it is so suitable for winter or party evenings.
Texture: The lipstick bullet glides on the lips initially, but after 3-4 uses, it starts becoming a bit matte in texture, and a bit difficult to apply. That is true of almost all matte lipsticks, but I found this shade to be the most matte in the entire collection. Of course, it never turns as matte as MAC Retro Mattes. It does have a tendency to feather a bit. This shade tends to really dry out my lips, making my lips parched and uncomfortable, even when I have exfoliated my lips quite well before use.
Pigmentation: Since this lipstick is very matte, it is the most pigmented lipstick of the collection. It deposits 100% color in one swipe. Application of dark lipsticks always needs practice, and reds and wines are one of the most difficult shades to carry. Even with expert practice, this one is a difficult shade to handle. A lip brush is very much indicated when going in for a perfect pout with this one.
Staying Power: It stays on for 5-6 hours easily without meals. However, even a small snack will lead to patchy removal of the lipsticks. It almost always leaves a rind of color on the outside of the lips, and the inner lips look very very bare. I like staining lipsticks, but this one does not stain as much as it ought to, so as to provide a uniform color.
Pros of L’Oreal Color Riche Pure Reds Star Collection Pure Garnet Lipstick:
- Glamorous and sturdy packaging.
- Autograph of the brand ambassador.
- Color-coded button helps in easy identification.
- The shade is a beautiful deep wine shade.
- Fragrance is very mild, floral, which does not linger.
- Perfect for winters.
- Finish is matte.
- Full color deposit in one swipe.
- Lasts on the lips for 5-6 hours.
- Easily available.
Cons of L’Oreal Color Riche Pure Reds Star Collection Pure Garnet Lipstick:
- Tugs a bit on the lips.
- Dries out the lips.
- Feathers.
- Transfers a lot.
- Leaves a ring of color after meals…looks patchy.
- Expensive.
IMBB Rating:
3/5
I have loved the entire Star collection range of L’Oreal lipsticks, but until you actually try out a shade, you should not blindly buy it. The other shades did not give me problem, but this shade really gives one food for thought. The shade is indeed gorgeous, the drying out and patchy transfer part really did not go down very well in my book.

Wow!! I love the shade and how velvety it looks!! But patchy and dry, then sure it is not my pick. 🙁 Though I must say that this pure reds range from L’oreal is too royal to resist. 🙂
Absolutely Kadambari…I was really excited about this…and the shade is indeed…to die for. But the quality…not as good as the others

Shade seems to be beautiful on you. I’m more of a red and pink lover than wine, so would give this one a miss 😀 Nevertheless, nicely reviewed 🙂

Lovely shade..Even though I love this shade, because of the dryness and patchyiness I am giving it a pass.. Great review 🙂
U may indeed give this one a pass…the gorgeous color does not make up for the dryness and patchiness
I didn’t think there would be a flop in this range… surprising. Thanks for this one Arpita.
