“Smoothness you can touch, transformation you can see, even up close!” Thanks to a high concentration of elastomers, L’Oréal Paris Base Magique Transforming Smoothing Primer gives skin an incredibly even surface with fine lines and pores erased. The formula also contains soft powders to help absorb sebum, thereby mattifying the skin to reduce shine. The finishing touch? Smooth to the touch and with a silk-like feel, silicon oil enables easy-gliding application with no greasy residue. Base Magique will guarantee a more perfect and longer-lasting make-up every time.

NEW BASE MAGIQUE transforming smoothing primer instantly smoothes pores and creates an even surface, so that you get a more flawless make-up result that lasts. The silky, lightweight formula glides onto skin and minimises the look of pores and fine lines to transform your skin surface. Dermatologically Tested.

“Why do I need a primer?”

While a moisturiser is designed to hydrate and protect the skin, a primer is used to mask wrinkles and uneven textures in the skin before foundation is applied. Some women believe that their foundation alone can help hide these irregularities; however foundation needs to be applied to a smooth and even-textured surface for it to look its best and stays on the skin for longer.

Application Tips:

1. Cleanse and moisturise skin as normal, leaving time for the moisturiser to be absorbed.
2. Rub primer between fingers.
3. Apply a thin layer all over face or concentrate on specific areas where make-up doesn’t last as long; chin, lips, eyelids.
4. Leave for a few minutes before applying foundation.
5. Can also be worn alone on clean skin.

Hi Everyone,

I found out about primers and their (helpful) usage about 2 to 3 years ago. Having such oily skin, with open pores as well, I always used to wonder if there was something I could apply as a kind of base before my makeup, which would help in smoothening the skin’s surface, controlling the oily look, as well as covering up the open pores. Hurray, when MAC opened their store in my city and I discovered MAC Prep + Prime.

I chanced upon this L’oreal primer in Guardian Pharmacy, Singapore, and when I swatched it on my hand, I felt such extreme softness and smoothness and I was really impressed. However, an SA from some Korean brand on the other side of the L’oreal counter came up to me and started telling me about the primer from her brand. She talked and talked and praised her brand so much, then swatched a bit of that Korean primer on my hand – it was more like a tinted moisturiser, but I didn’t feel the same softness and smooth finish as with the L’oreal primer. By this time, I was totally distracted and irritated.

Finally, she said to me “touch my face,” and when I kind of tried ignoring her, she caught my hand and rubbed her face with it! Her face felt as sticky as a monkey’s bum. I promptly and defiantly picked up the L’oreal primer and put it in my basket, while she told me “L’oreal products clog pores.” When I turned my back to go to the counter, she followed me and said, “L’oreal products made in China, my Korean brand much better.”

While paying my bill at the counter, I thought I was free of her at last, and I breathed a sigh of relief, but one last look at her just to see her final reaction, and she came up to me again and said “clog pores.” Taking a deep breath and controlling myself, I picked up my packet and walked out, never to return to that branch of Guardian Pharmacy again, whew!

Anyway, I have been using this product for about 2 or 3 weeks now, so without further yackety-yack, let’s show you the swatches and also list the pros and cons about the same.

Upper left – swatch of product. Right – product after blending. You can see how the lines in my hand have been smoothened out and are almost barely visible.

Pros of L’oreal Paris Base Magique Transforming Smoothing Primer :

– It leaves a super-smooth, soft finish. The smoothness is amazing.
– Comes in a very light, milky-pink shade, but doesn’t make the skin pinkish or whitish.
– Has no smell, hence, suitable even for sensitive skin.
– Only a small amount is needed.
– Spreads well.
– Covers open pores, conceals fine lines and controls oiliness very well.
– Didn’t “clog pores” or cause me any breakouts.
– Really makes a visible difference on my skin after application of foundation/pressed powder.

Cons of L’oreal Paris Base Magique Transforming Smoothing Primer:

– Comes in a jar packaging, so you need to pick up the product with your fingers each time.
– I personally wish that it was a tad more thinner in texture – it is like a real thick cream.
– This may not really be a con, but I could not find the quantity printed anywhere either on the box or on the jar.

Verdict:

A primer that really works to close open pores, conceal fine lines, and gives an overall silky-smooth finish that is visibly noticeable.

Rating:

4.75 on 5.

Would I Buy This Again:

Yes, I certainly would, but it’s not available in India.

  1. I bought this product today without much information on how it is actually, I bought it only cz I have big pores and it really felt better and thicker than MAC and other brands available here. I just came home and this is the first thing I looked up for – Thanks! for the review. Makes me feel better to hear good things about it. 🙂
