L’Oreal Paris L’Or Lumiere Cannes ’14 Collection Reign In Red Review

L’Oreal Paris L’Or Lumiere Cannes ’14 Collection Reign In Red

Hi dearies!

What are you planning this weekend? My results are due next week and I can barely concentrate on anything. 😛 So I was just rummaging through Nykaa the other day and came across the limited edition Cannes Collection boxes by L’Oreal! They are available in three types. I have been wanting to try the Moist Matte lipsticks for a while but mommy dearest put a ban on red lipsticks (I err own some 30 of them :P) after my YSL and MAC haul a few weeks back. *sob sob* It was my luck and these boxes being on sale that earned me a stern nod to go for one. 😀 😀

L’Oreal Paris L’Or Lumiere Cannes ’14 Collection ReignIn Red

Now there is one rule I follow when I am shopping makeup I haven’t tried online. I go for something I can carry off even if the products turn out to be horrid! Reds, Roses and Corals are my ultimates and it didn’t take many moments to decide on “Reign In Red.”

Price: INR 1799 (899 + 475+ 425) but currently available for INR 1299 all over!

Product Description: The L’Or Lumiere Collection highlights the exuberance of Neo Gold as a beauty trend on Indian and global fashion runways. Since shades of gold beautifully embrace all Indian skin tones, the L’Or Lumiere Collection presents products gorgeous bright hues that stylishly accentuate the brilliance of gold. The products are a fine representation of glamour, elegance and will certainly heighten the allure of any red carpet look.

At first I thought of reviewing the contents separately but decided against it. This is going to be a bit long, so read on ladies!

L’Oreal Paris L’Or Lumiere Cannes ’14 Collection Reign InRed

My take on L’Oreal Paris L’Or Lumiere Cannes ’14 Collection Reign In Red Box

This collection comes in a long rectangular box with Sonam Kapoor all over it looking DROP DEAD GORGEOUS! It opens up like a book with a card, breaking down Sonam’s look on the cover and about the creator, who else but Namrata Soni. The only weird thing about the box is a nail shaped thing with bolts at it’s both ends used to pin the box down. :O It’s so inconvenient to put it right back in the hole once you have opened it. I didn’t waste any time in throwing that away.
Innovative but seriously, L’Oreal?

Over to the contents, this box contains a Color Riche Moist Matte Lipstick in the shade Lincoln Rose, an Infallible Monos single eyeshadow in the shade Pebble Grey and a Super Liner Gelmatic pen in Deep Brown. I’ll be reviewing them one by one!

L’Oreal Paris Super Liner Gelmatic Pen Deep Brown Review

Super Liner Gelmatic pens are exclusive to the Cannes ’14 collection, available in five shades : Glamor Gold, Silver Mania, Turbo Turquoise and Deep Brown.

Product Description: L’Oreal Paris introduces its first gel eye liner in a Twist Up pen format – L’Oreal Paris Super Line Gel Matic. The product is created with an exclusive formulation of ingredients and is designed to last for up to 12 hours giving an intense matte colour pay off. The product has a pen-precision for a super easy application, the intensity of a gel and is totally smudge proof.

Price: INR 425

L’Oreal Paris Super Liner Gelmatic Pen DeepBrown

My take on L’Oreal Paris Super Liner Gelmatic Pen Deep Brown:

I adore brown kohls. 😀 They not only make excellent smokey eyes but soften up your eyes big time if you’re having a heavy outfit or a mega vibrant lip! This is however, my first liner from L’Oreal. It glides along the upper lash line effortlessly, probably even better than Maybelline Colossal! The pigmentation is medium, contains soft gold particles.

Pros of L’Oreal Paris Super Liner Gelmatic Pen Deep Brown:

• Buttery smooth application.
• Excellent as a base if you are planning a copper-brown smokey eye!

Cons of L’Oreal Paris Super Liner Gelmatic Pen Deep Brown:

• Not at all a deep brown. The colour pay off on your lids is far from intense.
• Not smudge-proof. I smudged it along my lash line at least an hour after application.
• Tell me, when they say gelmatic pen, shouldn’t it be liquid liner in a pen tip? I certainly thought so but rather turned out to be Kohl.
• Expensive than Maybelline Colossal and Lakme Eyekonic.

L’Oreal Paris Super Liner Gelmatic Pen Deep Brown

Would I recommend L’Oreal Paris Super Liner Gelmatic Pen Deep Brown?

No way. I’m not repurchasing it either. If you need a brown kohl, Eyekonic it is.

IMBB Rating: 2.5/5. Disappointing. Easily my least favorite of the box!

L’Oreal Paris Color Riche Moist Matte Lipstick Lincoln Rose Review

I had eyes on these since they launched. L’Oreal easily makes one of the best lipsticks in the Indian market and I have very low tolerance for everything matte, personally because my lips are dead chappy! So Moist matte is something I was looking forward to. It is available in 12 awesome shades.

L’Oreal Paris Color Riche Moist Matte LipstickLincoln Rose

L’Oreal Paris Color Riche Moist Matte Lipstick LincolnRose

My take on L’Oreal Paris Color Riche Moist Matte Lipstick Lincoln Rose:

Rosy reds to me is what water is to ducks, bananas are to monkeys and darkness is to owls. It’ll be an understatement if I say I love them. Moist Matte lipsticks come in a rose gold packaging with a cube on the body indicating the shade. 😀 Lincoln Rose is a vibrant, extremely pretty rose red with warm pink undertones. It is that kind of shade that you can’t help but fall in love with at the very first sight. Now enough with my obsession, over to the formula. This is one of the few matte lipsticks I have braved and I have to say I am impressed. It is nicely hydrating and lasts about three hours that way if you didn’t cheat a balm underneath. The application gives rise to a rich red and glides on your lips extremely well. The pigmentation is just wow! It will be seen in every lip, no doubt.

L’Oreal Paris Color Riche Moist Matte Lipstick Lincoln Rose

Pros of L’Oreal Paris Color Riche Moist Matte Lipstick Lincoln Rose:

• Amazingly beautiful rose red. Reminds me of YSL Rose in Tension.
• Will show up on every lip, whether pigmented or not.
• Passes the hydration test as claimed!
• Long lasting. Survived a meal and left a cute pink tint on my lips.
• The Rose gold packaging is classic.

Cons of L’Oreal Paris Color Riche Moist Matte Lipstick Lincoln Rose:

• Pricey, only Bourjois, MAC, YSL and Dior are costlier. I wish they’d come in the price range of Revlon and Lakme. *sniff sniff*
• You need to use a liner your upper lip. YOU NEED TO.

Would I recommend L’Oreal Paris Color Riche Moist matte Lipstick Lincoln Rose?

Yesssss 😀 This is one of those babies you got to have in your stash. I’m certainly eyeing Blaze Of Red and Orange Power, already!

IMBB Rating: 5/5. Amazing!

L’Oreal Paris Infallible Monos Eyeshadow Pebble Grey Review

I am not much of a grey person but black-grey smokey eyes been in and thus didn’t mind this in the box. NOW I DON’T MIND IT AT ALL. Read on to know why. 😉

Price: INR 425

L’Oreal Paris Infallible Monos Eyeshadow PebbleGrey

Mytake on L’Oreal Paris Infallible Monos Eyeshadow Pebble Grey:

I don’t know why but this is only my second eyeshadow from L’Oreal. I sort of got hooked to Inglot and NYX for my eye necessities. Pebble grey, a true grey, comes in the little opaque square tub packaging like all the other Infallible eyeshadows. I was blown away but the texture. It’s creamy, shimmerless and absolutely top class. The rich matte finish is so good that you can even wear it on your lids alone with some smudged black kohl. My favorite of the box!

Pros of L’Oreal Paris Infallible Monos Eyeshadow Pebble Grey:

• Fantastic texture. Creamy, rich, matte finish.
• Excellent for black-grey smokey eyes!
• Reasonably priced at 425.

Cons of L’Oreal Paris Infallible Monos Eyeshadow Pebble Grey:

I thought hard but no, none.

L’Oreal Paris Infallible Monos Eyeshadow Pebble Grey

Would I recommend L’Oreal Paris Infallible Monos Eyeshadow Pebble Grey?

Without a thought. I’m getting few more surely. 😀

IMBB Rating: 5/5. *standing ovation*

So that’s the box, Reign In Red. Overall it’s fantastic, if you want to try out bits and pieces of everything of the collection. I’d give it a 4/5 and I think it edges out last year’s Sunset Cannes Collection by a *little* bit. The lipstick and eyeshadow really makes up for the gelmatic pen disaster. Although one thing I couldn’t help but notice, would you pair a grey eyeshadow with a rose red lipstick? I won’t, certainly. I think L’Oreal missed a trick here. If you judge by the box name or claim, it should’ve been a brown or copper, not a grey.

That’s that! I won’t trouble your eyes any further, ciao ladies. Will be back soon!

  1. Ohhh… Btw… I am writing about blaze of red… So you will definitely know about it in a couple of days

  2. wow only in the morning i was lookin fr a review on lincoln rose *drool* *drool* now i can buy this collection widout a doubt coz of ur awesome review *puchhi*
and the brown gelmatic is more of a shiny golden brown…my advice is to first apply it with firm pressure..it will go smooth then..smudge a bit and it will give beautiful brown definition to eyes to go wid this awesome lip color 😀
but yes thers one thing that with this collection a black wud have been preferable..this brown will not show up on lids at all if applied over pebble gray *nababana* *nababana* but u can use it on yr lower lash line *powder*

    1. P.S. even my mom gives me such exasperated looks whenever a parcel with all kinds of lip colors (glosses and lippies) comes in *secret* rofl *hifive*

      1. Moms I tell you. *nababana* No no, this gelmatic pens don’t live up to my eyeliner standards. *pan* But it’s an excellent smokey eye base, so not complaining. 😀

    1. *thankyou* *thankyou* You got to! This looks like Ash’s lipstick in that Roberto C gown! *drool* And seriously, awesome formula. I am thinking reviewing some more from this range!

  3. What an outstanding review *jai ho* *jai ho*
It was a treat to read it.
And yep the gelmatic pen is such a misnomer *pan*

  4. Yeah I have exactly same opinion for the Gelmatic Pen esp the brown one was very excited upon seeing it on counter but my excitement vanished upon swatching it *hihi* very average , and I love these eyes shadows esp their texture need to check this shade as well, lovely review 🙂

    1. Thanks Dhara 🙂 The gelmatic pens are nothing special, I’m happily going back to Colossal & Eyekonic. *powder* The eyeshadows are stunner, if you want something matte, try the Infallible range. I have Eternal black in shimmer finish & its not even close to this matte Pebble Grey. *jalwa*

  5. Thank you Shilpa! 😀 Yes, the gelmatic pens are a bit off, they remain true to the collection though, having gold undertones beneath every colour but certainly expected more! *waiting*

  6. i absolutelyyy love that color of red on your lips. it’s soooo sooo gorgeous on you. The starting line of this lipstick review is so creative. enjoyed reading it :))

    1. OMG Rati 😀 Yes, this Lincoln Rose is one amazingly amazing shade. *hifive* Thank you sooooooo much. 😀 It means the world coming from you 😀 😀 😀
