L’Oreal Professionnel X-Tenso Care Nutri-Reconstructor Shampoo Review

L’Oreal Professionnel X-Tenso Care Nutri-Reconstructor Shampoo Review

Hi Everyone,

I am going to review one of my current loves today – the L’Oreal X-Tenso Care Nutri Reconstructor Shampoo – Straight. A few words about my hair type before I write about it, I get my hair rebonded once every year, as I am a total sucker for straight and manageable hair. Unlike common belief and reviews, rebonding does not destroy your hair as much as people think it does.  What does destroy it is if it is not done from a good salon, usage of the wrong shampoos and conditioners, lack of proper and meticulous after-care and if you miss regularly trimming your hair.

L'Oreal Professional X-Tenso Care Nutri Reconstructor Shampoo Review

So, I got my hair rebonded for the 5th time last year around October and I was taking good care of it. However, my schedule went a little crazy with back-to-back travel from April–June, so I missed my regular oiling sessions and masks. Around the beginning of this month, I noticed that the ends of my hair had turned rough and frizzy because I missed my regular trim and care, so I ran to the salon for it.

This knight in shining armour at the salon found out that I had been using the wrong shampoo and conditioner that is not meant for rebonded hair. So, he asked me to try this shampoo to manage the frizz and retain the rebonding effects.

My Experience with L’Oreal Professionnel X-Tenso Care Nutri-Reconstructor Shampoo:

I love love love this shampoo. I have not bought the conditioner or the hair mask from the same range. I use this shampoo with my regular L’Oreal Serie Expert Conditioner.  Even when used with that conditioner, this shampoo does wonders in controlling frizz and making hair manageable, super smooth and shiny.

My hair looks and feels healthy after shampooing with this and I have noticed that it has helped in retaining the smooth rebonded look for my hair. It has a fantastic detangling effect too.

X-Tenso Care Nutri Reconstructor Shampoo

Pros of L’Oreal Professionnel X-Tenso Care Nutri-Reconstructor Shampoo:

  • Amazing formula for retaining the effects of rebonding and making straight hair stay straight.
  • Nice liquid texture that lathers on the hair very easily.
  • Specially formulated and meant for rebonded hair and a whole range of hair mask, serum, and conditioner available from the same range.
  • Great detangling effect and makes hair shiny and oh-so-smooth!
  • Does not weigh down my hair even though I have fine hair.
  • Controls frizz wonderfully. My friend who doesn’t have rebonded hair but suffers from frizz used this last week and she was raving about it. It controlled her frizz and tamed her hair very well she said.
  • Nice clean smell that stays on the hair even after 2 days of shampooing! I feel like I have just come out of the salon after using this.
  • It is pretty economical, as this bottle will easily last me 2 months (with 3-days-a-week usage).

Cons of L’Oreal Professionnel X-Tenso Care Nutri-Reconstructor Shampoo:

  • The effect stays on the hair for about 2-3 days. The TBS Rainforest range fares much better in this respect.
  • The bottle is not travel-friendly.
  • Availability, so far I have only seen this in a very few salons as it is meant for in-salon use.
  • Contains SLS and a host of other chemicals. However, I did not see any parabens listed.

Important Note:

I have fine hair that is generally healthy and behaves itself as I take very good care of it (read no heat or blow drying at all, no styling products, regular oiling, natural hair masks). The only abuse it goes through is the yearly ritual of rebonding. I am not sure if this shampoo would work wonders for people who have very coarse or frizzy hair as a result of rebonding or otherwise. It did work very well on my friend who has moderately frizzy and wavy hair.

    1. LOL…I know pretty crazy huh? But I am so used to the manageability n the neat look it gives, I can’t stay away from it 🙁

    1. Yes absolutely! I love how IMBB provides a platform to share these best practices with people and one of the reasons I did this post was to spread the word about it to people who are suffering from the hair rebonding aftermath 🙂

  1. OMG 5th time rebonding………. though people assume chemicals are applied on hair only during rebonding it seeps into skin and would pose an adverse effect in long run…. Any type of hair is gud if u actually like it, i ud say… mmmmm…. I want to try the hair mask from the same range

    1. Haha, you are right Archana, but I compensate for it by not using any heat or chemicals on my hair (not even hair serums or artificial hair masks). And in any case I like my hair better with rebonding 🙂

  2. Hi Arbee,

Thanks a ton for this post. it has encouraged me to go ahead with rebonding. i was contemplating it from years. Did you use Lorael Extenso product??? or anything else?
are u aware of any good salon in Mumbai where i can get the rebonding done???
also did you face any issue like hair fall, dandruff, which normally people say happens after rebonding…

    -regards

    1. I got the Sc*warzkopf one all 5 times, and I think these days they also have some rebonding that uses less ammonia, so you can ask about that at the salon.
About the after effects – I did not face any dandruff problem afterwards, a little bit of hair fall yes, but that I used to face even before rebonding, so it has not escalated after I got rebonding done.
I am not sure about the salons in Mumbai, but I have a friend who got it done from Farhan Akhtar’s wife’s salon (I think its called B Blunt) – and she was quite happy with it. But please check with someone who is from Mumbai about the best salons (and preferably a high end one)

    1. Oh yes Parita, sorry I forgot to mention that in the post, it would work on naturally straight hair as well as it has a nice detangling effect and controls frizz. My mum has hair like yours and she was very happy with the results.

  3. Now I have the courage to get my hair rebonded again. Thanks a ton. Where do you stay? Can you tell me from which salon you get your hair rebonded? Any idea about ones in Hyderabad?

    1. Hey Ravali, I live in Delhi and got my rebonding from Geetanjali in Green Park. I am sorry I won’t know about salons in Hyd, why dont you put it up as a question on IMBB?

      1. Geetanjali and affinity these salon are making money they never provide good service, I got my rebinding in affinity green park, but after one wash my hair became as before rebounding . I used to go attitude salon in hauz khaz its best. these big brand salons are cheater.

  4. arbee I am quite stuck with my loccitane shampoos so dont experiment much. But i use the loreal dandruff shampoo and it works great for my hair. once in a while when i am lazy I get my hair washed at salon, it’s only then i get to try loreal shampoos. They have always made my hair look great. I guess i would sooner or later try the loreal shampoos. would keep this in mind. 🙂

  5. Ive done 7 rebondings previously and have tried loreal xtenso for the first time, so far am loving it..oiling regularly and using the right shampoo/ conditioner helps.

  6. hey thanks for the information.. I got my hair rebonding done a week back ( keratin ) one.. as u said Serum causes damage to hair. are u sure about it? because, my hair dresser suggested me to use it. I m a college student n can’t afford regular spas , are there any alternative? suggest some good oil too ..pls reply asap

  7. My hair is little frizzy and medium wavy.I am thinking to go for rebonding/smoothing….are both the same or different ? If different then which one is better? Also which brand to go for? is xtenso good or keratin?? i am soo confused…please help me out

  8. Hi, Thanks for the Review. I have done my hair smoothing for 1st time, and I love the structure, so organized, I was given Scharzkopf Q10 Plus and Fiber Force conditioner. I generally have a oily hair tendency. Since I started facing hair fall even bfr smoothening, I have started oiling regualrly atleast twice a week. I am about to change my shampoo to loreal xtenso. Could u pls help me with hair care tips, so I can reduce my hair fall. Btwn How much hairfall can be considered normal. Currently my hair volume has gone down, I really dont knw wht range of hair fall can be considered healthy for me. Pls guide.

  9. This shampoo was my first love (read recommended) after my first try at keratin treatment. But my wants to explore took me to the Liss ultime of L’Oreal. But somehow, I felt the only good thing about Liss was the good fragrance. It made my hair dry again 🙁 Gonna go back to my old love now…. 🙂 Thanks for this!!!
