Lush Copperhead Shampoo Bar Review

Hi friends!

It had been the longest time that I had not been to Lush store. And talk about coming out of the shop empty-handed…whom am I kidding!! There was one Lush product, in particular which I had never tried till date…the solid shampoo bar. I could not wrap my head around the concept of using a bar to clean my hair. However how could I claim to be the biggest Lush enthusiast if I do not try all their products! So I picked up 2 shampoo bars….New! This one for its amazing cinnamon fragrance and Copperhead which is especially made for colored hair.

The shampoo bar, as per its name is a copper-brown round bar with tiny dark henna specks. Lush believes in being environment friendly so there was no external packaging for the shampoo bar. This shampoo bar is travel friendly as it is in solid form. Hence I would not have to deal with any spilling, unlike liquid shampoos.

Price
$11.95 for 1.9 oz.

My experience with Lush Copperhead Shampoo Bar:

I made sure to test this shampoo bar on my heavily oiled hair. For the first few times using this shampoo bar was awkward as I am accustomed to using liquid shampoo. But very soon I got the hang of it and in fact it turned out to be easier than I thought.

As soon as I hold the shampoo bar in my wet hands, there are bubbles. This made the process very easy; as I have to swipe the shampoo bar only 3-4 times on my shoulder length hair and then lather it. The shampoo bar lathers decently well. It removed all traces of oil and dirt from my hair. My hair felt squeaky clean and fresh. I also did not notice any major hair fall by changing the shampoo.

It contains cocoa butter for enhancing hair softness. Initially I tried using the shampoo bar without following it up with conditioner. As I have very dry hair I did not find any reduced hair frizziness. However, it did not make my hair any additionally super dry than it already is. Later on whenever I use the shampoo bar followed afterwards by conditioner, my hair responds beautifully.

The presence of henna did not cause any change or lessening of my hair color. The shampoo bar is especially designed towards colored hair. However it did not provide any shine to my hair as claimed by the product.

It has a distinct rustic coffee fragrance. Though it is not as appealing as a floral fragrance but I like the vanilla, cocoa butter and coffee combination. After rinsing off the shampoo, the fragrance stays very mildly in the hair. However since I use a conditioner afterwards I can hardly smell the shampoo bar’s fragrance at all.

The major drawback with this shampoo bar is that it softens very fast. So I have to keep it covered in a soapbox all the time. The product claims to last 80 washes but I am not convinced, as it has been flaking a lot. Also I observed that I have to make sure to rinse my hair well as sometime tiny specks of the bar get stuck in my hair.
Overall it was a good experience using the shampoo bar and I am really happy that I tried it.

I am still not a completely convert to jump ship and start using shampoo bars always for cleaning my hair. So I am not planning to keep buying the same product but yes I would be trying other shampoo bars from Lush.

  1. Good that it is amazing for colored hair, but sad that it contains SLS! How would this one survive 80 washes if it flakes so much :/

  2. loved the review – coffee cinnamon – hello yumminess ! I am all for heavy vanilla and chocolate cake scents XD However presence of sulphates was a downer…but since you oil your hair it shouldnt be a problem. It has cocoa butter – that`s really nourishing.
